Huge fan of Lir. Great place for beers after work and of course, the bar bites. Pizza and waffle fries for roughly $ 6 is an absolute bargain. The pizza is delicious. Not sure why it’s so good but it really is. Waffle fries are great. Sliders, decent. Lots of TV’s. There are so many places to go on Boylston but if you haven’t tried Lir, I suggest you do.

I was invited for a friend’s birthday party dinner, otherwise I would have read the reviews and instantly passed. The food was mediocre and ALLEIGHT of us had cold food. My turkey and Brie sandwich tasted like plastic. The appetizers were cold(nachos) as well. Not sure how everything ends up served cold, do you cook it and leave it outside before serving it? Worst of all was the service. The bartender was a horrible wretch. She should be fired and replaced with someone who has a personality; just plain rude and seemed annoyed at every question. Definitely avoid this place.

Couldn’t get in many of the bars on the street cause the Pats game was on during the playoffs but we found a small table in the back. The pizza was great, I loved the goat cheese pizza and veggie pizza and it had a nice assortment of foods for an Irish pub. The fish tacos did not taste good as I think it was a bad batch of fish but the waitress was great and switched it out for an item equal in value that we wanted.

Came in here around Christmas time for lunch as other places were really crowded. Heard from some friends this was a cool place to check out. They were wrong. I ordered the«sangria» which had zero wine or fruit in it(except for the orange wedge on the glass and the cherry that was dropped on top) and it was also shaken before being served. Would’ve gotten a beer but the selections weren’t great. We were given two sangrias even though my boyfriend didn’t ask for one. Took one sip of my drink and all I could taste was cinnamon and alcohol. I did not drink any more of it. I didn’t want to seem like a jerk by sending them back so we just paid and left. Never again.

Awful place. Honestly don’t know what else I could say to describe. With so many great places to drink in boston, trust me, don’t waste your time here.

I can only write my review based on my soccer watching experience for El Clasico this weekend, but if future visits are the same, I would think that I would probably go back. The main problem is being able get waited on when you sit upstairs… No table service, just bar and the wait can get to be longer when it’s quite busy. The bar food seems decent, lots of drink choices, and everything was more than reasonably priced for a place in a tourist area. We will likely be back to watch games. It would also be nice if they would have more La Liga and Serie A matches… They are more EPL focused. If you like soccer, good bar eats and reasonably priced drinks, come here.

Went there tonight(Saturday) with a couple girlfriends for drinks. We were able to find seating without a problem. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the drinks were reasonably priced. There were several TVs so those of us who like sports could follow the Bruins game. The music is pretty loud so it’s probably not a good place for a date, but definitely a great spot for drinks :)

My friend goes into this bar ALL the time and raves about it. He brought me in the other night and I really loved it! The set up is just really cool and not what you’d expect(or at least what I would expect) for Boylston. It’s casual but classy inside. I loved the bartender too– I forget her name but she was tall and thin with Auburn hair– really sweet and very attentive. Didn’t try the food but it looked really good walking by. Can’t wait to go back!!!

We stopped in Lir in the late afternoon for some great Irish food and good drinks. We sat at the window overlooking Boylston street on a beautiful Boston day. We ordered the Basil Grey cocktails and they had an excellent, refreshing taste for this perfect afternoon. We also ordered the Limerick Sheperds Pie(which was a overflowing bowl of meat, peas, potatoes and cheese that tasted outstanding!) and the Kerry Beef Stew(thick chucks of beef and fresh vegetables in a big bread bowl-excellent!) Elaine was our server and she couldn’t have been nicer. She was readily at our table to provide anything additional we might need. Great place to stop in for a drink or a bite to eat, especially after doing the Boston ‘Duck Tour” which is just a short walk from the Prudential Building.

In Boston for a conference… The Red Sox must be in town there are jerseys and caps crawlin the place. I am walking up Boylston looking for drinks and dinner… And then there was Lir! The game must have been starting soon as the place was clearing out as I took a seat at the bar. My bartender was a very attentive and sweet young lady who promptly served my drink and a menu. So, I am in an Irish pub in Boston and I see Limerick Shepherd’s Pie on the menu. Is there another choice? No. Oh, what a wonderful surprise. This was not a hunk of pie cut out of a larger casserole. This was an individually cooked shepherd’s pie that was divine. The big surprise was that it was completely covered with melted cheese on top of the mashed potato topping. At the ½ way point I thought that I was done… but no! I ordered another drink and started afresh. The pie was stuffed with ground beef, corn, carrot, celery, and a couple chunks of potato in addition to the mashed topping… in a nice gravy. So yummy… The gravy could have been a bit more peppery, but good. This was served with a traditional side salad topped with an in-house balsamic thingy… Very good. My 4 star would be a 5 if the gravy had wowed me! But that should not hold you back from this delicious pie!

Lie is not a bad little Irish pub located right near Copley Square. This place has ample seating and generous pours for their cocktails. The beer list isn’t bad as well but the bartenders seemed a bit disinterested in the crowd of people. They were a bit on the slow side. This place has a ton of TVs around and decent viewing spaces from the bar floor. Overall, not a terrible place but by no means the best Irish pub in the city… Pros– Price Location Generous pours Cons– Dirty Disinterested employees Crowded Small TVs when sitting at the bar

DON’T COMEHEREEXPECTINGAUDIOFORWOMEN’S WORLDCUPGAMES. DOCOMEHEREIFYOU’RE A WOMANANDWANTTOBECALLED«HONEY» CONDESCENDINGLY. I never give bad reviews but felt compelled after my experience tonight. Came to Lir with some coworkers to watch the USA v. Australia women’s world cup game. We chose Lir because its website lists the world cup game schedule, it’s known as a soccer bar(it had all the men’s world cup games last summer), and several Boston newspapers/websites recommended it as one of the best bars in town to watch the WWC tournament Upon arriving at the bar, the game was on, but without sound(there was a soft rock/pop soundtrack playing instead). I asked my waitress if they planned on turning the sound on, and she said the wouldn’t do so unless a majority of the bar was watching the game. The bar was fairly empty at this point, and there were several tables full of soccer fans who had asked the same question and received an identical response. When we asked again, the waitress reiterated that they didn’t plan on turning the sound on and that she had no control over the sound and I needed to talk to the bartender. When I asked the bartender about the sound, and again pointed out(kindly) that Lir’s own website listed the game, her reply was a condescending, «Well, does the website say there would be sound?» Really? After 20 minutes of watching the game with a Fleetwood Mac soundtrack, the bar finally switched the sound… to the hockey game’s pregame show. I asked the bartender again if she could turn the soccer game on at least until the hockey game actually started. Voice dripping with condescension, she explained that this was the *Stanley* cup(because, obviously, I’m a mere girl who just wants to watch the silly women’s world cup, so clearly I don’t know anything about real sports). When I again pointed out that the hockey game hadn’t started yet and there were a lot of people at the bar to watch the soccer game advertised on the bar’s website, she finally agreed to turn the soccer audio on, but only after telling me, «HONEY, I’m turning the hockey game on as soon as it starts. As long as you understand that.» We left at halftime to watch the game elsewhere(as did a lot of other disappointed soccer fans). I won’t be back to Lir anytime soon. It’s bad enough that they hold themselves out as a soccer bar but yet weren’t showcasing the most prestigious women’s tournament in the world. It was the server and bartender’s disdainful attitudes, however, that really did it for me.

Lir is an Irish Pub & Restaurant along Boylston Street in Back Bay of Boston. We came here for the Duke Watch, which was in the basement of Lir. I liked how there were multiple tv’s from different angles to watch and root for your team! From the bar, you can order food and drinks. My dad ordered a Hamburger with Sweet Potato Fries but they gave it with Bottomless French Fries. He said it was typical bar food. The Bottomless French Fries weren’t crunchy and tasted like deep fried mashed potatoes. I wanted the Wicked Mango cocktail but they were out of the Barcadi Mango Fusion so I settled for a Peachy Palmer(which consisted of a mix of Ultimate Vodka, Lemonade, Iced Tea, and Peach Schapps) and reminded me of less delicious version of the«Cold Tea for Two»(Oolong Tea infused vodka, Peach De Vinge, and Lemon) at Shojo!

«Average» is precisely the word I would use to describe this place. There’s nothing particularly good or bad about it. Pretty typical pub/bar on the entrance level but then there are two more floors — one upstairs and one downstairs. I think they’re basically trying to get both bar people and club people. To be honest, I’m not really sure why anyone would elect to come here — the food is not great, drinks are weak and it’s on Boylston St which screams tourist trap to me. Nonetheless, I’ve had to come here on two occasions through group events and really it is as decidedly average as you can get.

Slow night considering it was probably Spring Break for the local college students… Went out for a few brews and catch up with some friends… Service was good, bartender(Ryan) was great and very attentive… There are def a lot of things that could be done to improve the overall experience at this establishment, but that’s not my expertise… Will go again!
