Good food. Drinks are reasonable and sufficiently strong. Ambiance is good. Only issue is that their wait staff is always very thin… thus service usually suffers. Mgt needs to do better here.

I only got takeout for lunch so I cannot say much about interior conditions and atmosphere. It is a very well put together place. A rustic design, very warm and comforting. I got the bacon wrapped meatloaf. The meal was very good. The seasoning in the meatloaf was flavorful and complemented the meat very well. There is a beef gravy on it which is also tasty. Now that being said, it isn’t served as the traditional slices of beef. It came as 4 small patties(picture sliders) wrapped in bacon. Not very filling. Even though the first impression was just average, it won’t deter me from going again. You can’t judge a book by it’s cover and you can’t judge a restaurant by 1 meal. I’ll be back.

Nice place and spacious for a nice drink with friends and Co workers. Went their for a paintnight I booked, didn’t get to stay and enjoy the atmosphere but it seemed nice. Will definitely go back for drinks. Thanks for paint night I found out about this place.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning with a group of 15 and waited an hour and a half for our orders. Food arrived cold and mixed up, would not dine here again with a large group.

Ate here while staying at the hotel above, Club Quarters. We ended our night here for a late drink and supper. It’s a nice old school English type bar with a great menu for breakfast lunch and dinner. Service was friendly and prompt. It’s a nice after work bar as well with decent prices. They do trivia and have parties/events going on as well. Cajun Chicken Caesar wrap was delicious as was the flat bread and chicken tenders. If your staying above in the hotel or near-by check out their menu and you will not be disappointed. Great spot off the beat and path in the Financial Area.

Very quaint pub with great Bloody Mary’s. We stayed next door at the Club Quarters which is a great combination, night cap and a morning Bloody. Prices are very reasonable for downtown Boston

Great bar/grill to pick up dinner from on my way home from work. They have a huge variety of items on their menu, but my go-to is the meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli. It’s a homemade/comfort food type of meal with a lot of flavor and tons of gravy! I also highly suggest the chowder and French dip sandwich. Have never dined at the actual restaurant but would be up for giving it a try. I would suspect it is pretty open on the weekends and more crowded during the week for after work drinks or apps!

A great place, esp for lunch. Was in downtown Boston for the day and dropped by here on the holiday. Service at the bar was spectacular and the food was really good. Big menu, lots to pick from and a bunch of different beers.

I’m a server, so unfortunately I know what service should be. I left a bad review before. In fact it was the reason I started Unilocaling! I went in for the second time this Wednesday. We were Sat right away. The waitress was very attentive and took out food and beverage order. My girlfriend got the fish tacos and I got the buttered chicken. My girlfriends tacos were delicious. I’m a talapia fan but these were cooked perfectly. The buttered chicken was just slightly too tomato-e but was still delicious. I will be back in the cooler weather for some Yorkshire pudding and sheoerds pie . Also as my dish was curry based and a bit spicy, my water glass was never empty.

Came here today for a work lunch and the menu was fantastic. I got the jalapeño Mac and cheese. It was absolutely wonderful and just enough to satisfy my comfort food craving on this rainy day. The portion was perfect too and the jalapeño added the perfect amount of flavor and just a little bit of heat. My coworkers raved about the burgers and shepard’s pie. This place is definitely worth a visit, but bring a sweater, the temperature inside the restaurant was frigid!

In the mood for something different and a British pub came up. On entry, the décor is quite nice, rich dark wood that feels charming; the obvious downside is that the music is loud. The waitresses said that the food isn’t exactly British pub but a fusion of British and American. In fact, the only items she recommended as authentic was the bangers & mash or the shepards pie, which I ordered. The pie arrived very hot and with a nice crust over the mug. Breaking inside revealed a delicious looking dark brown gravy with plenty of meat and mushrooms. The taste matched the look of the food and I couldn’t be happier!

Checked out Elephant & Castle once for breakfast and a few times for drinks. Staying at the Club Quarters next door nets you a 10% discount on food if you charge it to the room. Breakfast: Good portions, solid service. Was seated immediately and orders were taken for both drinks and food promptly. I got the breakfast burrito and it was portioned well and tasted good. Drinks: Not a huge selection of beers but the bartenders are very helpful in their recommendations. Service: Excellent service. I left my bag with a few valuables at the restaurant and I realized I had forgotten it after about 30 minutes. Went back to get it and they immediately recognized me and brought me my bag, everything accounted for. Conclusion: Great spot to grab a bite paired with great service. Very pleased.

Awesome waitress for our table of 7 people eating and drinking. I tried the Slum Dog. A panko crusted hot dog ensconced in garlic naan and butter chicken curry. It would have been a 10⁄10 if not for the hot dog. First of all it was actually 1 ½ hot dogs. Secondly, it had serious girth. BIG. LONG. GIRTHY. And it was overly firm. I’m not even joking. It was too big and hard. That’s just tellin’ it like it is. The panko crust was delicious and not even a little soggy which is impressive because of the curry sauce, but again the hot dog just kind of ruined it. The Butter Chicken Poutine, however, was my favorite thing that I tried. Salty chip-style fries smothered in Indian butter chicken curry and pieces of chicken, amongst cheese curds. It was almost like Indian nachos in a way. It was amazing. Wins the prize for the best unique poutine I’ve ever had. Get it. The Classic Poutine was one of the better I’ve tried in Boston, believe it or not. The wide cut fries really helped to scoop up the plentiful gravy and there was a good ratio of gravy to cheese curd, and the curds, while not properly squeaky, were at least stretchy and chewy, which is better than most half-assed shredded cheese abominations I come across in the US. The gravy was pretty thick and very beefy. Almost like beef stew, so if you don’t like a very meaty flavored gravy this wouldn’t be your fave. The pretzels were soft mini baguettes that were delightfully greasy(think Auntie Anne’s, but a little less greasy) and came with a nice whole grain mustard for dippin’. The Fried Pickles were a smallish portion and were in pickle spear slice format rather than crinkle pickle chip format, which I didn’t hate. They had a nice crusty panko coating and a delicious aioli dipping sauce, but there were only about 8 thin slices so I wouldn’t recommend for the value. The drinks were nice and strong and the waitress was so friendly and obliging. I would go back!

Waited 15 minutes to be greeted, after that greeting waited an additional 20 minutes for drinks(including simple water). We ordered our drinks and food at the same time and the food took 40 minutes and we only received 3 of our 5 entrees. 20 minutes later a 4th entrée arrived, another 10 minutes and our 5th arrived. The food was good. That’s where it stops. We had one guest order a shandy beer, see received a cocktail. When we notified the server it was the wrong drink, she then brought out a Stella. When then notified her again that it was the wrong drink, she let us know that they no longer had the shandy… Overall, a bad experience. I should mention that I am giving this review will waiting to pay the bill. That’s how awful this experience was.

Went here tonight really wishing I could get the Fish & Chips because they look SO good from the Unilocal photos and I figured it’d be a suitable order at a British pub-! However, as I always do before I eat anywhere, I checked out their menu online and ended up finding the calorie count, which was a whopping 1580! Woah! That being said, I DO plan to go back, fast for the day and definitelyy try the Fish & Chips. Not tonight. –_– I went semi-conservative and got the grilled salmon(w/o the herb butter), which came w/a side of perfectly cooked broccolini(great side!) and mashed potatoes topped w/french fried onions(delicious). The salmon is the only reason I hesitantly rate this place 3 instead of 4 stars b/c it was pretty dry and not really fresh/clean tasting. Also, it was a tail-end piece so on the thin side vs. the thicker, nice filets you usually get at restaurants. Such a bummer. Still, I figure I may eventually return and try the yummy stuff and give a better rating. Everyone at my table got really great looking stuff and had good things to say from the mahi mahi tacos to the burgers. Looking forward to another experience, but I’ll skip the salmon next time!

I didn’t try the food so this is just about the atmosphere and prices. My thoughts: too crowded after work. Bartenders were friendly. Beer selection not bad. I couldn’t see the TV while sitting at the bar(it was behind the bar) and they had sports center on with no subtitles. Why even bother? A pint cost $ 8.04 cents, thats just plain irritating. #1 thats expensive. #2 thanks for the 96 cents in change… jesus. Shape up Elephant and Castle. Shape up.

I can only comment on the dessert and ambience, as my friend and I just stopped in for dessert. They actually have several(about six) dessert options available. My friend and I shared their St. Patrick’s Day special dessert, which consisted of layers of chocolate cake alternating with layers of Bailey’s Irish Cream mousse. It was topped off with a sliced strawberry and whipped cream. Delicious!!! The general ambience is a mix of a pub and restaurant. The front is a large bar, with a dining area in the back. They have a *huge* TV for watching sports. I had to sit in front of my friend so that she could not get a sneak peak at the current score for that night’s Bruins game! Our waitress was super nice, even though we only ordered dessert. She was happy to go through the various options, and brought out two spoons and two ice waters, which I found very considerate.

I’m not one to write a review based solely on one experience, but my visit to Elephant and Castle last night was so bad, I have to warn others. Came to dinner with a colleague around 5:30pm on Thursday. Showed up on the lower side door and waited by the sign that says«Please Wait to be Seated». We stood around, looking a little helpless, for a FULLFIVEMINUTES as waitstaff passed us and no one offered to seat us. Finally, I peeked around the corner to see a hostess leaning against a wall chatting with a manager(assuming it is a manager because he was in a button-up shirt). She had her cellphone out and was completely oblivious to the now-crowd that had gathered to be seated. I waved her over and told her we were ALL waiting to be seated. She was haughty and put out by the fact that he had to do her job. Must have been a first for her. We were seated and offered drinks; when she came back with the drinks the waitress asked if we were ready to order. We were not and asked for a few minutes. Then a second waitress asked if we were ready to order. Still not, needed those few minutes. Then NEITHER waitress came back for upwards of 15 minutes. Our drinks were empty and so were our bellies as again, we looked around hopelessly, praying for service. Finally I made eye contact with waitress number 1 across the room and she came to take our order. Our food and second round of drinks came out quickly, and the hummus and sweet potato fries were fantastic, as always(hence the second star). Drinks were consistently well-made. We paid the bill IMMEDIATELY upon receiving the check as to not lose our waitress again. Not impressed with the service ATALL. Would only come back to sit at the bar, otherwise I’ll be at Merchant.

We had breakfast here because we were staying at the adjacent Club Quarters hotel. Friendly staff and very good coffee. I had a toasted bagel with cream cheese(basic, fine) and a side of turkey sausage(not very flavorful) my wife had the Omelette Station(omelet with bacon, cheddar and tomato — adequate) with home fries(rubbery and tasting strongly of Rosemary). We had come in for drinks the night before and enjoyed The British selections on tap. The lunch and dinner menu looked interesting, but we aren’t staying much longer on this short trip.

eh. I went with a colleague after work to have a beer. bartender could have cared less that we were there. Made no effort to engage or convert a beer into a burger… which I was ready to do until ignored. I was ready for a second drink and basically ordered the check instead. Busy place, seemed to have a lot of hustle and bustle and a lot of burgers going around — they just lost me as a convert and next time will try another local joint to have a beer and a conversation. Whats does it take but seconds to say hello and how are you…
