Express Delivery Van

I contacted James for a last minute move on a sectional I found on craigslist. We communicated via text and he was generally quick to respond, and he checked in the morning of the moving day. His quote was the best one of the three I solicited, and he was very willing to work with me on scheduling. He drove a long distance to bring the sectional to me, yet still showed up early, moving it with ease. He was friendly and a genuinely nice guy, and I’m happy to have his card for future moves!

James Moore was recommended to me from a friend who had just used his services. I got no other quotes; texted him my needs, and within minutes he called me immediately.
He arrived early, carried my many boxes very carefully into his van. He also unloaded the many boxes with grace and aplomb.
I would hire him again in an instant. He was very pleasant, professional, just an all-​around very nice guy.
I thought his rates were extrememly reasonable, although, as I said, I did not ‘shop’ around for other people/​rates.
I would recommend James Moore without any hesitation. He performs excellent work; he knows what he is doing, and I commend him tremendously.

I hired James and his helper, Dan, to pick up a sofa I purchased on Craigslist and deliver it to my new apartment. These guys are great! They showed up right on time, carried a large sofa down the stairs, called me on the way to my new place to check in, and got the sofa up two flights of stairs. I couldn’t be happier with the job they did, and I will call them again as soon as I need them.

I Just finished a move with the help of james Moore. This guy is incredible. I received close to 6 quotes before asking for his help and his was very competitive. More importantly, he was on time, available, straight to the point. I had to take a heavy mattress and bed frame from beacon hill to davis square. I had planned at least 45 min only to get it down from a fifth floor beacon hill apartment without stairs as I knew we would have to dismantle it. In less than 10 minutes !!! We were in his van, mattress and support ready to go. Amazing. I would also like to point out that when he heard me speaking french, James started speaking french to me and I learned that he had lived in Europe for ten years where he was a genetics researcher. He speaks french and German. Having a mover who was as competent humble honest and interesting was quite a unique experience.
Last point. The move was 1 hour and 15 minutes. I had to insist to pay him more than was negotiated (1 hour support). Go ahead without hesitation.

Mike was a fantastic and very affordable mover! I would definitely use him again and highly, highly recommend you give him a call for your move. His van is pretty big and we had no problem fitting everything I needed for my apartment. He was flexible with plans as they changed (moving days are always so hectic), punctual, and easy-​going no matter what. (For example, the parking availability by my place was nonexistent but he made it work!) He was also fun to work with and super efficient.

I’m probably the least experienced person when it comes to moving. When I moved to Boston from California, all I brought with me was a large suitcase, cowboy boots, a hat, and a twinkle in my eye. In my four or so years being in Boston, I’ve accumulated so much crap and needed help hauling it all to my new spot. The large items were my bed, a chest, misc appliances, shoes, clothes, shoes and clothes, knick knacks, weird shit, shoes and more clothes. Ugh.
Getting all my stuff down from two serious flights of narrow brownstone stairs, and up a flight at my new place was definitely a challenge. That, and my old apartment was under repair from a recent water pipe burst. Mike and James had a plan and were very strategic in angling the furniture for easy moving. I tried to move my bed frame without entirely disassembling it (which was against Mike’s advice). Needless to say, it didn’t work out in my favor keeping things in tact. Part of the frame bent, so like a lil’ bitch, I brought the frame back into my old bedroom to disassemble it and told Mike that he was so right, and that I should’ve listened to everything he said. Don’t be a lil’ bitch and ignore advice from the expert moving man with a delivery van and a plan.
We finished the move 30 minutes earlier than expected. You really have to know how to prepare your stuff, though. If you have a large drawer unit, keep stuff in the drawers but remove the drawers from the unit. Use shrink wrap for open boxes, properly cover breakable items (mirror, glass) with fabric and shrink wrap. Just don’t half ass your packing and your move will be swift and breezy.
In a nutshell, I’d totally invite Mike and James over for dinner. They were so laid back, friendly, and super funny! I definitely recommend Mike’s services and look forward to using them for all my upcoming furniture buys. Pay in cash and don’t forget to tip!

I called Mike on a Saturday, asking if he could help me the following day with an urgent move. He came on Sunday, on time, courteous, and consistent.
Not only did he move my items 3 flights up, but he offered spontaneous help as he did so. For example, he assisted me with grouping and organizing boxes that I figured I would get to after he did the move.
He was upbeat, polite, and hard-​working throughout the move. He made sure to check in with me before finishing any part of the job. He also finished exactly on time.
I highly recommend him (already have to a friend) and would use him again.

Step 1: Find awesome West Elm sofa on Craigslist.
Step 2: Measure sofa and consider the size it would be in my living room. Think «hmm, this is bigger than I was looking for, but it’s so nice!» Ask if there was any trouble getting it in, and have the seller say not at all.
Step 3: Get quotes. Mike was cheapest and I’d used him before, so go with him again. Think «sofa is 120 lbs. I can hold 60 lbs. Therefore I can save some money and be his helper.»
Step 4: Mike arrives on time, and the seller has already moved it into the living room.
Step 5: Time for a nice smooth move, right? From the supposedly no-​problem-​moving-​in 2^nd floor condo to my elevator building?
…Wrong, oh so wrong. This sofa was not meant to be moved. Ever. Let me count the things that went wrong…
1) We get utterly, completely trapped on the way out the door to the first flight of stairs. There is NO way that thing was easy to get in. But Mike patiently turns, flips, turns again until him and the seller can puzzle it out the door. The wall took a bit of a beating in the process, but there was absolutely no way to avoid that and Mike was being as careful as possible.
2) We arrive at my elevator building, and… IT DOESN’T FIT IN THE ELEVATOR. At that moment, I start frantically crafting «Must Go Today» Craigslist emails in my head. I’m kicking myself for how much money I’m going to lose on this. But Mike remains relatively calm, asks to see the two flights of stairs + long walk we’d have to take and offers to do it for an additional $ 35. $ 35?! That’s nothing, given how unexpectedly hard the first pickup had been!
3) I discover that 60 lbs of sofa weight is very different from 60 lbs of I-​brought-​too-​many-​shoes-​on-​vacation suitcase weight. I also discover that I have no freaking idea how to move a couch, given that I’d always previously had strong male friends/​family/​boyfriends to help. But Mike is super patient with me and very encouraging, and keeps providing corrections of how I should hold it so as to be most effective and not die in the process.
4) At the second-​to-​last doorway, we get trapped again. But Mike’s puzzle skills come to the rescue yet again…
.AND NOW I HAVE A COUCH!
I ended up paying him double what we’d agreed upfront (and more than he asked for) because that job was nowhere near what we’d agreed. Most movers would have given up well before then, or demanded some crazy amount. But Mike was patient, calm, and reasonable. He called it a «learning experience» of what to watch out for next time.
I have no idea how I’m getting that couch out if I have to move it again, but I’m certain that I’m using Mike if I do.
(I also had used him once before, when he was the only person willing to quote a flat rate, rather than hourly, for a move that covered a ~45min drive but only required limited moving on either side. Was happy with him then as well.)

Mike is great! I used him twice over the past week or so. First was to pick up a couch that I bought on Craigslist. He was right on time, knew what needed to be done and was finished in no time at all. Next, I had him come back to help me load a U-​Haul truck. Again, right on time. I was his helper and he gave great and clear instructions. The truck was loaded much faster than I expected and it was done right. Everything arrived at the destination in perfect shape. I would definitely recommend him.

Mike is brilliant. He made this the easiest move of my life, even with an enormous piece of fitness equipment that he miraculously maneuvered down two twisty staircases single-​handedly. He is professional, courteous, and one of the best communicators in the business – even when he had some complications with his vehicle, he kept us apprised of what was going on and took phenomenal care of us and our delivery. Not to mention, his kind manner put me absolutely at ease – I had to curb the inclination to get chatty with him because he seemed like such an all around great person to know.
I have nothing but praise for this man and I know exactly whom I’ll call next time I need something moved. Hire Mike and his Express Delivery Van, and tip generously!

I hired Mike to move a leather sofa that I bought on CraigsList. Had been dreading possible complications, but everything went incredibly smoothly this morning. Mike & his helper, James, showed up 15 minutes early at the seller’s place in South Boston. They were exceedingly polite & well-​mannered. They proceeded to move the leather sofa down 2 flights of narrow winding staircase in under 3 minutes. Unbelievable! They then met me back in Brookline where they installed the sofa in my apartment in under 2 minutes. All told, the move took 45 minutes, including driving time. Brilliant!
Mike is phenomenal at giving specific instructions in a calm voice, and all the carrying is done in neat, tidy, precisely calculated movements. (I’m so used to big burly guys having testosterone-​fueled arguments while trying to move furniture.) There was zero drama with Mike – total consummate professional. I would use him again in a heartbeat. His fee was so reasonable & the quality of his service was out of this world.

I hired mike to do a kind of complicated medium sized move from two different locations into an apartment that was not entirely vacated, so we had to leave space for the tenants to get their stuff out. This was August 30^th, the Saturday before check-​in week in every college in town, and there were vans, trucks, pickups, and SUV’s lining the streets. Mike and his helper called to tell me they could arrive early, went by to pick up a set of keys we needed, and proceed to get the move done in a very small period of time. They moved everything in both places super fast, with no damage, no attitude, no lateness, great communication, no extra charges or add-​ons. At the end, he said a number that wasn’t what he’d quoted originally, and when i demurred, he went to the quote he’d given me (so I tipped them). He’s cool, polite, fast and efficient, and he’s a good guy. Hire him.

i don’t think i would ever «ignore» a negative review, but just wanted to briefly say that mike got my couch i bought off craigslist down 4 flights of tricky stairs and into my current apartment no problem, waited faithfully for me to arrive (i was late), and while he was a bit brusque in giving directions (i’m not used to taking orders, but i’m glad i did!), he was completely reliable and thought of everything. i thought i had left the couch feet to my couch with the person i purchased it from, and i was all panicked about having to drive back to brighton during my crazy, hectic move. but mike just kind of had them. this was august 2012.
the short: i am horribly anxious during moves, but mike was a total lifesaver and charged me $ 65 to go to brighton, pick up a couch, and bring it to south boston which i thought was very reasonable.

At first I thought: this guy is gonna help me move? Really? Mike did not wear a muscle T. He doesn’t have bulging biceps and triceps. He was not all greasy. He actually wore jeans and a clean polo shirt. I was skeptical, but I kept my cool and went with the flow. At the end of the day, I only have one room of shit to move somewhere less than 10 minute drive away. And my jaw kinda hit the floor once he got moving.
He was the most methodically mover I’ve ever used. My boyfriend kept asking: what does this guy do for real? His instructions on how to move your body in order to get the big thing out of the house was so clear and to the point that I think he can probably teach anything in the world.
Mike was on time, professional, efficient, and charged the most reasonable price I could find. When you have a small move that really doesn’t require 2 hours, you shouldn’t have to pay for that. Just saying.
So, use Mike, ignore that negative review. You jaw will drop hit the floor too, if there is enough room for your jaw between the boxes, and in the good way.

I had a very good experience using Mike to help me move 2 dressers from the MIT furniture exchange to my apartment. He showed up on time, brought the dressers straight over to my place and helped me get them upstairs to my 3^rd floor apartment all for a very reasonable price. His van looked clean on the inside and he had a blankets and stuff to protect the furniture. If you need help with a small move, he is a great choice.

Glad I didn’t read the reviews here first as then I may not have used him.
I sent several emails to people looking for help moving some furniture I purchased from CL. Mike was the only one who answered and in minutes. Less than 24 hours from when I first contacted him we now have new furniture delivered and a sleep sofa in our house moved down a flight of stairs.
Prices were reasonable and he answers emails like lightening. If I needed a small move done again he’d be the first person I’d contact.

Since writing my single review in September (no edits or updates made), Mike has written negative responses to me in September, December/​January-​ish, and now again at the end of February.
Sorry, I’m not going to take down my review. I had a bad experience, and the community deserves to know. They also deserve to know how this person behaves to those who report bad experiences with him: You’ll be getting negative messages 6 months after the fact.
As I mentioned originally, other people given the same information as Mike handled the job without issue. If Mike expects a good review, he should perform as well as his competition.

Top-​notch professional, honest, efficient, on-​time, effective communicator, well-​maintained gear (packing blankets, straps, van) that is indicative of one who takes his trade and/​or services seriously. Prices are fair and he seems to have a good grasp on how to provide a good estimate when provided with accurate information.
I was a fine art handler for many years and was impressed with the care Mike took to pack our furniture for transport. Highly recommended. I will definitely call upon Mike for services when necessary in the future.

Mike was awesome and more important, trustworthy!
He picked up a table that I bought on Craigslit, and I gave him $ 775 cash to pay the owner (delivery fee was $ 95). He was fast and professional, and happily didn’t steal the cash I gave him to pay for the table. Thanks Mike — I’ll look to you again whenever I have a move, big or small.
