Hennessy’s

Came to see a friend perform, which was great. Loved the live music, but their water is definitely not clean. I ordered a sparkling water and it tasted like pool water. I told the bartender that the water tasted bad, so I asked for another, thinking maybe it was the cup, but the second drink tasted the same. SUPER GROSS. I’m sure it’s a health code violation!!!

I reviewed this place in December 2014 and for some reason my post never got logged. Anyway, I was there for lunch and had a Reuben. When I walked in, the hostess ignored me, even though she wasn’t busy. Finally seated me and didn’t even have the courtesy to be nice. Amazing experience as a paying customer. Anyway, the sandwich was bland and cold. Not enough Thousand Island dressing sauce. Once I got my meal, never saw the waitress again. Very disappointed in this place. Go somewhere else.

I go to henneseys when I have a craving for an Irish breakfast. I usually go mid week when the bar isn’t too busy. They have never disappointed. Baked beans, ham, fries, black and white pudding with sausage and a fried tomato is a little slice of heaven.

I live in the North End and this is often a local spot I go to for dancing and drinking. Last night however, a bouncer (the one with the gauges in his ears) was an absolute douche bag and I later found out he was this way to a friend of mine. After he checked my ID I said «thank you» and he said «WHAT DID YOU SAY?» I said «thank you…» And he accused me of saying «F*** you» although the woman taking covers told him that wasn’t the case. He then refused to let me in the bar. A word of the wise to Hennesy’s, this bouncer was extremely and unnecessarily rude to my friend and I who are both frequent visitors to your bar. Fire him.

so touristy. So not worth it. a douche bro bar in a fun neighborhood. I was disappointed. The staff was really great, but the crowd was all conference goers and college groups. They had a band going upstairs which was dirty and not well maintained. Shame.

Along with paddy o’s this is another one of my favorite bars. The live bands are always amazing and this place is always packed. Sometimes waiting in line can be a bummer but it’s worth it!

It was okay. It was ordinary for me. :) There were not much people considering it was a Friday night. There was a live band though and they were good. I might go there again when I feel like partying but it won’t be the first on my list.

My first experience at a Boston Irish pub was decent. Ambiance was good… what you’d expect of a pub (dimly lit, big bar, loud, etc). I was pleased with their menu — they had a fair number of vegetarian options (albeit some of them being southwestern, which is not a forte of Boston or a pub). I had the curry cheese fries. Still not sure what Irish curry is (it honestly tasted like Indian curry), but it was pretty good. Maybe a little more curry would have been appreciated.
My real problem with this place was service. After we were seated, it took 20 – 30 minutes for our server to come to us. They were not that busy, so I’m not sure why he took so long. I honestly think the server was a bit tipsy. His lackluster service really hurt my impression of this place.

We decided to give this Irish Pub a try our first night in Boston. The food was delish! The service was good! We may be back before we leave.
We ordered a trio dish — Guinness Stew, Shepard’s Pie and Cottage Pie — they were out of Cottage Pie (chicken dish) and gave us a choice of what we wanted to add as our 3^rd.
After eating the delicious Stew And Shepard’s Pie we may go back to get Cottage Pie before we leave. The food was that good! And the bread was warm and toasty!

This review is only for their nightlife dive bar scene.
I hate to give this place only two stars because their live bands are EXCELLENT!!! I’ve never had a bad experience with their different live bands both upstairs and downstairs. One star goes to them
The other star is for the bartenders. They’re all friendly especially the one that is a twin or has a brother that looks just like him. It confused me when I saw one behind the bar and when I turned around I saw who I thought was the same person standing next to me! He’s also the one that introduced me and my girlfriends to chocolate covered pretzels shots (I think that’s what it’s called at least).
The 3 other stars I refuse to give is because there’s absolutely no AC in there! I actually feel bad for the performers and very surprised none of them ever passed out because of how hot and muggy it is in there. Every. Single. Time I’m there. You know it’s a problem if even the bouncer standing in the corner, not moving at all is drenched and holding a face towel to wipe his face every 2 minutes. If you’re trying to meet someone new, don’t bother coming here. Nobody is pretty if they’re sweating and their makeup is running.
To add to this, I don’t even think they have coat check so everyone that brought a jacket in has to either hold it or risk having it get stolen on the seats. Ugh. I gave this place so many chances but I know for sure I won’t be coming back at all. The crowd here sucks too! All the young college ones are rude and thinks they’re better than everyone else. I hope I wasn’t like that when I was younger…

I have been here for drinks and dancing several times and it’s always a good time. When you become a regular the staff acknowledges that and treats you very well. They bring in amazing cover bands on the weekends which will provide you with entertainment for the night, I especially love Big Party Orchestra. For this reason Fridays and Saturdays usually have cover charges of around $ 10. On Fridays and Saturdays they usually have 2 bands (one on each floor) so the cover is so worth it. The bartenders make really strong drinks, I personally recommend the Blue Long Island Iced Tea.

I think 3 is a fair rating for this divey Boston bar. They had some good beer specials on the Saturday I was there. The menu isn’t going to blow you away but will offer you the standard Irish pub classics. I got the wing sampler which was just ok. The server couldn’t even identify which wing was which… Also got a burger which was better than expected and very juicy. I’d probably stick to lite snacks and beer here.

One of my favorite bars in Boston. Walkable distance from the Garden or North End. Usually has good bands, so the music is enjoyable. Crowded after a game but the crowd is friendly.

First visit to Hennessey’s in a long while. We had great service. They have a great beer list too. Live entertainment. Great location. Didn’t eat here.

Came here for an afternoon pint during memorial day this year, and like many bars it seemed a little scruffy in the daylight, a dankness which I’m sure becomes a large part of the atmosphere come nightfall.

Upon entering the wonderfully inviting Hennessy’s, I was greeted by a pleasant young Irish lady with an elated grin and a sweet accent.
Moreover, the servers were extremely attentive and prompt with their service, they refilled our drinks whenever they noticed they were running low and ensured we had everything we wanted.
Their specials were incomparable to any other bar and restaurant that we scoped out within the vicinity. $ 3 Corona Lites, $ 17 whole lobsters and $ 1.50 for oysters on the half shell ultimately persuaded me to eat here.
I will most definitely be back for some more bargains! Highly recommended.

Nice atmosphere. Staff was friendly. Good was average pub food but the half priced appetizers from 3 – 7 were a good deal. We got a few and shared them for an off hours midday meal. Overall, had a good experience but wouldn’t come for the food.

When I walked in, there was no one to greet or seat me so I went in to this very empty spot, looked and smiled at the bartender, who didn’t acknowledge me at all. So, I sat down at a table across from the bar.
The waitress was tolerant and didn’t smile once nor look me in the eye but also wasn’t rude.
Not feeling welcome, I just had some chowder. It had waaayyy more potatoes than clams, was super thick and tasted like it had too much cream. It was disappointing.
The area is wonderful and this spot could do very well. The lack of friendliness and low food quality probably prevent this place from being all it could be.

Went here with hubby for lunch while visiting Boston and it was not packed during lunch time which is good. The server was ok and got our orders early, i tried the fish and chips and it was good especially with the tartar sauce which totally satisfied my cravings, hubby ordered the clam chowder and he loved it. The chowder has i think lime or lemon in it so it has a little sourness which was a bit different from the original taste of clam chowders, it’s got way too many potatoes though so by itself, it can be the main course, after finishing the whole bowl you’re done LoL. Server checks us and always ask if we need anything or if we’re satisfied with our order which was good. Not sure how this place is during busy evenings maybe it could get crazy and the service might take forever but give it another shot and try it out for lunch.

We went to Hennessy’s last night after the Bruins game and had an awesome time! Our bartender, James, was an adorable Irishman who kept the drinks and conversation coming. While there weren’t a lot of people there (it was a Tuesday night), the atmosphere was festive. A live band was performing, and they allowed one of my friends to not only make a request but sing with them on stage. Great experience. There was a nice mix of locals and visitors, and everyone of them was friendly.
