It’s not fancy. It’s plentiful. It’s authentic. The only thing I didn’t think was plentiful was the meat combos… it’s sort of tiny portion.

Hong Kong eatery is a shell of its former self. I ordered the wonton noodle soup with roast duck and roasted pork. Soup was good but the wontons tasted a bit off. The duck was very small and not as tasty as it used to be. The restaurant was clean. Not sure if I would go back to eat that again.

We drove from our hotel to Chinatown and paid $ 15.00 for parking at Chau Chow since street parking wasn’t available. I didn’t want Vietnamese Phở noodle soup since I could get that in Lowell(and I’d be going over to the in laws to eat that later) so I looked up «Chinatown Boston Noodle Souip» on Unilocal and Hong Kong Eatery came up. Boston’s Chinatown isn’t that large so the walk from the parking lot was a mere 2 – 3 blocks. We approached the restaurant with windows displaying fresh roasted ducks, chicken and pork. We arrived around 10:30AM during the down time and there were only a few other tables being occupied. I was relieved because some of the reviews said the place gets packed and there’s usually a line out the door. There is an entertainment system in the restaurant featuring karaōke videos and episodes of the Chinese version of «The Voice. The noodle soups are prepared by the entrance where the roasted meats are cut and sold. When orders are placed, the staff quickly assembles the hot bowls using the noodles, broth, blanched Chinese vegetables and top it off with the requested roasted meats. The extensive menu features $ 2.00 rice congees, $ 5.00 rice plate combinations to a whole page dedicated to soups. Everything was so cheap! I wish it was dinner time and I was with a group of 10 people so we could try everything. The Mo and I coincidentally got the same exact thing.(That NEVER happens) We each ordered a bowl of noodle soup with roasted duck, pork belly and Chinese dumplings. The soup was very large and hearty. The broth was on the bland side but the salty pork and duck gave it some flavor. I also added some hot chili oil and soy sauce to take it up a notch. I also got a side of wontons, which was a meal within itself. It was very good and there were generous amounts of shrimp. The wontons keep falling out of my chopsticks and I almost asked for a fork. For the 2 noodle soups and the wonton, the bill was only $ 22.00. That’s pretty good compared to the original plans that would have set us back at least $ 100.00. I was so impressed with the duck and pork belly that I ordered some to take home. It was quite busy and I waited for the line to die down. For $ 59.00, I ordered a whole duck($ 20.00), 2 pounds of pork belly and a pound of BBQ pork. I had them separate the order and make 4 «combo» platters with a little bit of everything so that I would be able to share the goodness with my family in Lowell. Here’s what each container looked like. The servers were extremely friendly and the restaurant was SUPER clean(that’s uncommon for Chinatown restaurants). If I’m in the area, I’d definitely order from them again.

This is a classic Chinatown joint. It’s a bit chaotic and loud, and when it gets busy expect to be asked to share a table. Staff basically need to be tackled to be found. But the prices are cheap and the food is delicious. A typical meat-and-rice BBQ combo runs around $ 5, and it’s a pretty big plate. The meat is good but I feel like could use more sauce. The little cup of delicious brown sauce that they usually give you at these kinds of BBQ joints wasn’t there, and we had to literally chase down a waiter before we could get some. Overall, solid place for a cheap bite, but I wouldn’t really expect anything fancy.

Hidden Treasure of Chinatown! Very authentic Chinese food for a great price. We ordered the Peking pork chop, Chinese broccoli with garlic, and the stir fry beef noodle due to the recommendations of the waitress. Everything was so yummy and authentic! The Peking pork chop was my favorite! Highly recommend for anyone who likes Chinese food!

always good and authentic. great variety and WAY cleaner than the dim sum joints in Chinatown. nice that they now take credit cards. I ate so much covering for my family’s fickleness towards what I ordered that I hurt myself. unfortunately eating related injuries are not an uncommon occurence for me!

Don’t expect anything fancy. Food: decent. Large portions. Love their congee and noodle dishes. Had their beef tendons noodles — love the tendon and noodles were OK. It’s not a place for those who are OCD… check your water before you drink it. Good quick meal!

I’m going to pretend that I didn’t see the rat pics and comments from other Unilocalers… pretty darn nasty. Came here for dinner the other night because I was craving some Chinese BBQ meats. Got the Sam Bo Fan(Rice plate with 3 meats) with Char Siu, Roast Duck, and Siew Yoke(BBQ Spareribs?). Don’t forget to ask for the ginger scallion sauce because they usually don’t bring it unless you order chicken. The char siu was a little dry. The Siew Yoke skin wasn’t even crispy. The duck was pretty spot on though. I might need to find a new place for Chinese BBQ meats. Any recommendations, Unilocalers?

Yum Rice and roasted pork . Combo consisted of mostly rice and bak Choy. The bbq pork doesn’t taste the se as it did in April. Not as crispy and oily and tender. Came here for wonton soup 4 years ago and it was exquisitely bland. Had better.

This place takes credit cards, has various seating options for solitary diners as well as small groups, is clean and brightly lit with competent staff. The tea is hot and strong. And if your timing is good, they will fry up dough sticks fresh for you.

so tempted to keep going here and give it a good review but tonight’s visit was just not good. we got 1 duck rice plate, 1 duck lomein and the waitor couldn’t be more confused. i had to repeat it 4 times. really? his mind clearly wasn’t there and didnt have good service til the very end when he handed our change back. the rice lomein i got should’ve been good but the duck was ALLFAT, SKIN and UNEDIBLEPARTS. literally 1 bite of the duck meat. i was so shocked at the amount of duck fat on my plate. but it was really late so i didn’t complain or ask for change of duck meat. should’ve. but some nights i stay away from drama. esp when he was confused and no smiles while taking our order. sorry, you are very inconsistent. no longer a good spot in my mind.

The joy of going to Chinatown is knowing that I’ll find authentic Chinese food. Based on Unilocal reviews I tried this place and wasn’t pleased. It was dirty. Service lacked. Food was way too salty and greasy and nothing made me say is come back or recommend. I like duck a lot and the duck wasn’t good. I also noticed there was a cooked pig that I could’ve easily touched or sneezed on as I walked by on my way out. I don’t know how Boston does restaurant grades. I don’t think they are required to post like in some cities, but I can’t imagine this place having a good one.

Roast duck and pork, char siu, and other meats hanging in the window are still good, but the last few times we dined in the quality of rice plates and wonton noodle soup has seemed to have declined. For example, sweet and sour pork was chewy and the sauce lacked complexity. Same with the wonton noodle soup. Not enough seasoning and the soup was bland. Even the rice on the rice plates seemed to be lower quality than other places. It’s really too bad because we’ve been coming here forever and always loved Hong Kong Eatery. One good thing is that it seems they take card now, so it’s no longer cash only.

I’ve been around, and had a lot of Chinese food in various places, and I can say that the food here is the best Hong Kong(fast) food you can get in Boston; possibly even the entire USA. My parents used to eat at this restaurant over 20 years ago, back when they were graduate students in Boston, and now, 20 years later, it’s still in the exact same place and as popular as ever. Their menu items are what you actually find in Hong Kong(mostly Cantonese food, also, they don’t have dim sum) though they also serve the common stir-fried food you find in most Chinese restaurants(albeit much much better). From their menu, I’ve had various noodle soups, he fen(wide rice noodles), and roasts here, and it’s always excellent every time. What really stands above all other restaurants with Hong Kong/Cantonese food is their roasted duck and pork belly; you will not, and cannot find a better whole roasted duck or pork belly anywhere else in the USA, 100% guaranteed(though technically, anything is possible in this universe). Their soups(actual soup, not powder and chicken-fat added to water) are quite good; better than most Chinese restaurants. They also do a pretty good job with the vegetables, which are actual Chinese vegetables and not weird crap like bell peppers. I’ve been to Chinese restaurants in Dallas, Houston, London, and China, all of which have a large Chinese population(though specific demographics vary), and the food you find here is better here than anything you can find in Dallas or Houston, and as good as London’s Chinatown(the roast duck and pork belly is still better at the Hong Kong Eatery). Good food in China, on the other hand, is completely different, as the best restaurants there serve an entirely different class of food; not«fast»(Americanized) or Cantonese food, but truly authentic and elaborate Chinese dishes(another story entirely). Downsides of this restaurant are when they run out of food; they WILL improvise, and the later it gets, the more likely it is to happen. It’s not always good or bad, but they’ll tell you most of the time. By the way, pretty much all«Chinese» restaurants outside of a Chinatown that cater mainly to non-Chinese serve oil crap-trash-garbage that qualifies as Chinese food as much as Taco Bell qualifies as Mexican food.

This was my second time here. Didn’t have to wait long and it was on a busy Sunday. My friend ordered the noodle soup with wonton. I had the noodle soup with roast duck and dumplings(so good!). We also ordered the spicy calamari(very good as well!) I’m not sure if it’s cash only or if they accept card too. Bring both I suppose and find out? Service was good. Didn’t really notice the waiter because we didn’t need them after we got our food? Haha.

The price-point is definitely the best part about this place. For $ 7 you get a loaded place of rice and roast pork. 3 stars cause I wasn’t the biggest fan of the bbq pork that they served. Low quality meat used and not quite roasted as well as I had wished. The service itself as pretty much like every other cheap Asian joint, so don’t expect to be treated like royalty.

+ That awesome, semi greasy, but full of flavor food! + authentic + cheap! + food is super quick to come out –service is lacking and not nice, don’t come here if you want to be treated like royalty — will put you with strangers during busy hours — mainly cash only I actually love coming here for a quick bite. It’s cheap, easy, fast, and super good. I’ll never say it’s healthy persay, but they give you hot tea when you come in and the food you order comes out within 5−10mins of you ordering it. HOWDOTHEYDOIT? If you don’t speak cantonese, the service is likely very rushed and slightly cold – fear not, these are all signs of an authentic Asian restaurant! I honestly take no offense as I’m just there to pay cheap and eat good anyway. Not the place for a huge party or a date or anything fancy, but an awesome place that’s open fairly late and fills my stomach up good. They’ve got all your standard favorites – mine is usually one of the«foon» dishes(those thick rice noodles) as it comes with meat and veggies and stands as a good meal all by itself!

Food is alright but the people who work here are terrible! The lady at the register confused my order with another customer’s and charged both of us the same price. After I waited a long time for my food, I asked for it and she realized she mixed up the order. She yelled at the other customer and demanded 20 cents AND she completely forgot that I already paid her so she demanded that I pay again. It was the first time I’ve ever been yelled at by someone who worked at a restuarant… I told her and the other workers I already paid and after a while she gave me my food with frustration. Did I mention that she charged me $ 9 for a small wonton soup + rice? That’s pretty ridiculous for China town. That said, never coming back! I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially since there are much better and cheaper places in chinatown that won’t yell at you.
