Hyatt Regency Boston

I stayed here for business. The two stars are for the location, otherwise it would be 1-​star all the way.
Upon checking in, the front desk told me that it had just been renovated. I didn’t realize that they used the 50 Shades of Gray color palette. The rooms are so grim. They look more like prison cells.
The worst part was the noise. I had two doors in my room that led to adjoining rooms. Even though they were closed, I could see light coming from underneath them. There’s no sound proofing at all! My neighbor was watching TV at what was probably a reasonable noise level and I could hear everything! Even with the fan on, his coughing woke me up. Poor guy.
Isn’t the number one job of a hotel to provide a quiet place to sleep?
They have a weird lobby arrangement as well. I wouldn’t want to be stuck there in a fire.
This hotel is expensive and it’s definitely not worth it.

Loved this hotel and the best part was the Sunday breakfast buffet! The hotel is newer, remodeled and staffed with just about the nicest people Boston has to offer. EVERYONE-​from the valet person, to the concierge person, to the front desk person was extremely helpful and nice. The room was beautiful, clean and the perfect temperature. Also, my room was super quiet. DO NOT MISS THE BUFFET! Don’t get upset about the price tag (I think it was $ 28) But it was worth every penny. Fresh juice, omelette station, INCREDIBLE pancakes and french toast… the chef was handling the crowds like a boss and keeping everything fresh. I would come back just for the breakfast! Thank you for a great stay.

I really want to give this place a 2 but man it is so darn nice inside that you just can’t. A 2 because of what we experienced there this weekend mostly. A 4 because truly it’s nice, the staff is on it and the location is ideal.
So let’s start.
Arriving if you’re not familiar with the area can be confusing. It’s a good thing we had GPS or we would have gone straight into the garage and not around the corner. They need to do better on signage. Upon arriving there’s no sign really telling you Valet, only Parking and once you commit to the Parking only then do you see the Valet. It’s like the Hyatt is sharing the garage with another business. So it can be a bit confusing.
I opt for Valet pretty much everywhere I go every time and would suggest you do so here if affordable. $ 50 a night. The street check-​in is weak and the taxis take up all the room if they’re there.
When you enter the hotel you are immediately greeted on the first lower level lobby or better known as LL by the concierge. Elevators to the main lobby or L are directly in front of you. Take those to the main lobby for check-​in. Then to the right of check-​in are the main elevators to all the rooms.
We were on the 12^th floor, 1209 to be exact. The room was nice and the layout of the room was nice. The view was weak and I’d request we never board there again. It’s one of those rooms that has a door to ajoin to the other room. You can hear everything and I mean everything. Even the room directly across from us we could hear conversations. It didn’t ruin our stay but it definitely is awkward.
The one nice thing about this place is the Gym and Pool. Getting there for me though since I’m disabled is not. You have to walk a long hall and then down 2 flights of stairs (I was not told of an elevator nor did I see one) and then around and down and wow, we’re there. Put your hiking shoes on. On our first day walking to the pool there was so much pot that one of my sister’s kids screamed SKUNK!, we had to smartly say yeah, skunk to a 6 year old. First off let me remind you that this place is non-​smoking as in NON SMOKING!!! It really offended me and really bothered my sister that people have the audacity to smoke pot anywhere they please. Not good. Secondly when we returned to our hotel room we could smell smoke the entire night. At 3:30am I awoke to so much cigarette smoke coming into our room I had to run to the window to just breath. Again not good. What I don’t get is if you’re a smoker why are you checking into a SMOKE FREE HOTEL?
Smokers seem to think they’re invisible & that they can get away with smoking anywhere they go. They don’t realize it matters to us non smokers and that they a clue just how offensive it really is to us NON SMOKERS! Especially ones like me that are Cancer Survivors and health nuts.
The hotel strived to locate the culprits but you can’t just go knocking on every door. I get that but it ruined our stay completely.
Décor is super nice. The bathroom vanity is really nice. The tub is nice. Although it was dripping the entire stay. My sister’s room was tight. It was a double queen room I think. Ours was a King and it was nice. The one thing I did like about the beds was comfort. They were nice. Pillows were nice and I was stoked not to see a comforter over the bedding. Those things are disgusting and as a germaphobe it was nice not to see one. I would highly recommend that they offer or redesign using a thicker down though and duvet like more modern hotels use. It was like we were using 2 sheets and that’s that. Not good when it’s 10 degrees outside.
There is a cleaner way to do it.
Price was decent. We got each night for $ 159. To me for location and being in Boston that was great. I typically put us up at the Westin Copley only because I’m a VIP member there but this location was better suited for our event.
The restaurant is so so on the décor side, the bar is as well. Service was excellent each day and night. William was our server for each time. Food is fantastic. Room Service I can’t speak too much to. It was ok.
The location is really great. You feel safe, there are plenty of places to walk to. I can’t really think of anything else. Definitely worth staying at. They just need to impose to their guest at check-​in that this is a NON SMOKING facility and get that point across. Only because in the 35 years I’ve been going to Boston I’ve never had an incident like that.

Just got back from a night at the Hyatt in Boston. There is a lot to like about this hotel. The location is great — just steps from Boston Commons and several T stops. I had a room on the 18^th floor with a great view. Everything was modern and clean. There is a parking lot attached, but it is a bit pricy (no surprise though).

Recent renovation finished March of 2015x. Great cause we are here December 2015! It’s as if we are in a newly built hotel. Modern décor.
Parking is 38 bucks (no in and out privileges) and 55 for valet. And the garage is connected to the hotel but is third party.
If you enter Frm the garage or the streets, you have to take elevators up to the lobby cause you are in LL. You will see a concierge but don’t confuse him as front desk.
Lobby was impressive as well as the room. I like the individual work stations w outlets in the lobby.
Unfortunately the rooms are not sound proof. I got rm 622 next to the ice machine, thank god people didn’t use it often cause it scared the cr*p out of me when I heard it. I can also water running and others movements in the room I think above me cause there’s no one next to me. But you can hear people talking in their rooms if you walk down the hallway as well in your room. Wifi is complimentary but I got kicked off so much I gave up.
The gym was nice! Supplying earphones, wet and dry towels, water and indoor pool.
Location. Awesome! Walking distance to subway, park, Chinatown, and shopping at Macy’s and some other small shops.
Overall impressive for the price I got Frm Priceline $ 81 (5 percent off for the holiday), total 100 bucks! Unfortunately, doesn’t go towards member hotel points but it’s okay.
Upgrade to a corner suite is an option for a bigger room but I thought my standard room was nice and roomy as is. (Videos and pictures posted)

I really like this hotel! Not sure what it looked like pre-​renovation but it’s really modern and updated and clean. Bluetooth enabled speakers, plenty of outlets and USB ports, great working or lounging space, etc.
Room service is great. I ate a lot in the room because it was time between presentations to answer emails and get some quiet time. The food is really good, with lots of options at any time of day. Organic chicken salad, salmon, poached shrimp, egg white omelette, white bean soup – all very good.
Sad note: my scallops were over cooked hard little nuggets. :(
My favorite is the gym! Free early morning yoga once a week, with heated pool, plenty of cardio machines and weights. Made traveling so much more comfortable!

Great location! 2 blocks from from the Green Line, 2 blocks to the park, 15 min walk to North End, 15 min walk to Back Bay/​Copley Square, 15 min walk to the aquarium, 5 min walk to financial district, 5 min walk to chinatown
Horrible gym… Has plenty of machines and all, but located on the 6 floor and you pass all the rooms, walk down the stairs, access the area with your key card, walk down more stairs, and go through another door… I swear you’re in the basement! Saline pool you say??? it wreaks of chlorine to me!
another issue… the elevators. You have to wait and take two sets. One set for the rooms and another for the lobby areas. It wasn’t for safety reasons either, because you can access room floors without a keycard.
Room is very spacious. One thing I’ve been noticing about Hyatt hotels recently; barn doors with glass for the bathrooms. Not just here, but in NYC and silicon valley/​Santa Clara, CA. No privacy.
Expensive, but you’re paying for the location.

It’s a bit pricey, but that is expected in this area of Boston. The hotel is immaculate and very modern. The rooms are very well kept, the bathroom was nicely sized with modern details.
The folks working at this hotel were very professional and courteous. We’ve always had pleasant experiences at Hyatt hotels, including the one in Washington D.C.
The only reason I didn’t give this place 5 stars is due to the nightly rate (which I’m sure fluctuates from season to season) and because the hotel charges you to print/​use their business center computers/​printers. For almost $ 300+ per night the customers pay, I feel like the use of the business centers should be free/​included.

PROs — big clean room, great views, comfortable beds, and great location!
CONs — there’s a separate elevator from the lobby to your room and from the lobby to the street. the street is like on «ground» floor but you have to take an elevator to first floor to get to the lobby. then take an elevator from the lobby to your room. it’s a bit frustrating because in the mornings, I have to take 2 elevators just to get to work.

Extremely POOR SERVICE
I’m a gold Hyatt passport member, and generally like staying at the Hyatt but this was REALLY poor. I definitely will never stay
I wait on the phone to order room service and no one answers for five minutes. I call front desk and tell them and they say they’ll place the order for me — a tomato soup with bread, pretty simple right? I ask them nicely if it’s possible if I could get it asap as I’ve just come off a flight and am tired.
It is now 48 mins later and I’ve called the front desk to find out what is going on. This is SOUP, not exactly Michelin fare.
Front desk says they’ll call me back in three minutes to find out what’s gone on.
I wait 15 and call the front desk. Sean tells me that it’s on it’s way (thanks for calling me back in «3minutes») and that they don’t make soup at this time and had to make it up from scratch.
It’s on the house but that doesn’t matter. I would have slept of is known it would take this long and if it takes an hour and ten minutes and FOUR calls from me without a returned call then you can’t call yourself a professional hotel.
Poor service, really dropped the ball on this one Hyatt.
Update: I ate a packet of chips that I had in my bag.
Update: the soup took an hour and 15 minutes and THEY STILL CHARGED ME and didn’t bring the bread.
Extra update: ten minutes later a couple are trying to get into my room — the moronic staff have given the same room to someone else. Seriously!!!

Dependable business hotel, modern shower and comfortable room. All you would expect from comfort and service and strength of shower.
Issue with the hotel is with the elevators. you enter from the ground floor via elevator to the lobby and then take another set of elevators down the hall for your room. While this discourages vagrants and non-​hotel guests, this could definitely annoy the heck out of a hotel guest staying for several nights. extra issue is that one of the guest elevators is under construction, furthering delays. So… you get alot of
waiting.
Lobby is gorgeous, and has a flavored fruit ice water served every day.
Free wifi for the hotel guests. Fridge available for use in the room.
Good central locale for all the haunts, especially being within a block of Chinatown and the interesting finds there. Theres a couple of nice cafes in the area for a cup of joe in the am.
I’d come back for another stay, as I slept so well and adored the modern shower, but I need to be sure the elevators are all working. I can’t stand waiting so long for a lift. I took the fire escape stairs as often as possible from the lobby access on floor 3.

I stayed here over Christmas 2014 and meant to review earlier…
This hotel was fantastic and perfectly positioned in the city.
We found it so easy to walk wherever we wanted to go and was surrounded by many great restaurants and shops.
We also attended the ballet on Christmas Eve and the hotel did a wonderful pre theatre dinner and the ballet was a minutes walk away.
Staff were amazing and very helpful.
Room was wonderful and spacious. Lucky enough to enjoy a penthouse suite so no complaints!

This place is pretty nice.
I went here for a conference with doctor low dog a few years ago. The set up for the conference was actually beautiful with a harp player and the Hyatt offered a open bar.
Dr Andrew Weil’s personal chef did prepare the lunch for the conference so it was very healthy and unlike anything we had ever tasted. What was most impressive was the view of the Boston skyline from the banquet room it’s self.
However, I was less then impressed with the small room that we got as well as the not so awesome view of the parking lot from the room. The walls for the room seemed paper thin. We could hear everything that was said from the hallway in the back. We also could not help but to realize that they had originally mixed up the reservation that they had originally given us and that the wheel chair accessible room was the only room that they had left. During our stay, the fire alarm also went off in the middle of the night. How awesome was that?

Being from Boston, I hadn’t stayed at this hotel very much. I remember when it was the Swissotel years ago. Now that I live far away, I stay in hotels when I return to the city. It was such a nice surprise to stay in this property after many years. The staff was awesome as soon as you pull up to the front entrance. You are greeted and helped in the «lower lobby» before you ascend the elevator to the 4^th floor where reception is. Again, a very warm welcome by all along the way and it didn’t stop with Laura at the front desk.
Room keys in hand we made our way up to our room. Opening the door, we realized that not only had the hotel been kind enough to upgrade us, but that the room had a balcony with a commanding view of the Theater District, State House, Cambridge… even all the way to the Tobin Bridge! WHAT? A room with a balcony in Boston? Very rare indeed and I never knew these existed in this hotel.
As I mentioned, it’s been many years, but the room looks recently renovated. It was awesome! Mellow tones, clean lines and, of course, the spectacular Hyatt bed. The suite did however lack a full length mirror anywhere, the wall hangings were sparse and the livingroom portion of the suite was missing a couch or something. It looked a little bare. Regardless, it was an awesome room.
We took full advantage of the balcony and enjoyed a sunset bottle of wine. It was pretty quiet and away from all the city noise down below.
Our stay was short and sweet due to an early morning flight, but I can’t wait to return in August and stay a few days. The bar looked inviting and I’ve read some positive reviews for the pool area.
* One note of mention: The elevator from the lower lobby (LL) to the reception area (4) is ungodly slow. It would be nice to know if stairs are an option, because I waited so long for the elevator, then waited while it inched between floors. I prefer to walk a few floors rather than wait for this lift.
A great stay and a great hotel… specifically because of the staff.

I was pleasantly surprised by my stay at the Hyatt Regency. It had been recently remodeled and it shows.
Positives:
— Rooms are well-​designed. There is a couch with a small table and above the couch is a bright light (why are so many hotel rooms so darkly lit?) with outlets/​plugs on it. There are plugs everywhere which is also the downfall of older hotel rooms. For whatever reason, I also loved the fact that above the bench that you could use for your luggage or just resting your weary feet, there are hooks for you to hang your clothes. I seldom stay in hotels long enough to want to use the closet (and am worried about leaving clothes behind) and the hooks minimize the chances of that happening.
— The people working registration were really helpful and nice. It’s the little things. A free bottle of water upon check in? Yes, I’ll take that!
The only oddity about this hotel is that the lobby isn’t on the ground floor so you enter the hotel and then take an elevator up to the lobby. When I was there, only one of the three elevators was working.

A few taps on my Hotwire app brought us to the BEST HOTEL POOL IN BOSTON. After a day of both the North and South shore, we had plans downtown that night and wanted to stay somewhere within walking distance of where we were going, and the price was right. Booked. Also, POOL.
There is a parking garage attached, with both a self ($ 35 overnight, leave it) and valet ($ 50, in and out privileges) option. I self-​parked, but if you are going elsewhere… valet might be the way to go.
The lobby off the parking lot isn’t the actual lobby, but what I like to call the pre-​lobby. Don’t try and check in down there, you’ll be waiting a while.
We got upgraded when we did check — a nice touch for having purchased through Hotwire. We took the elevator up 20 or so floors and opened the door and saw… other people? Whoops.
Back down again — apparently there was an issue with the computer that allowed us to hang out with some other guests in their room for 12 to 16 seconds.
We were more amused than anything, but I can see how that would annoy someone. Regardless, we got a different room right away with the added bonus of a complimentary breakfast the following morning and super late check out. The view from the new room was still awesome and it was just as bright as the original, occupied one.
Plus, POOL. (I still hadn’t discovered the pool yet but that is coming.) The room was really nice; we settled in quickly and relaxed for a while. After some quality time on the internet with the free wifi, I ventured to the pool. I found an empty locker room, a 190 degree unoccupied sauna, and an 88 degree or so lap pool with one person in it.
Back up to the room — changed quickly, with very old Hollister sweatpants shorts as my bathing suit (I did not plan for the pool but would have worn jeans if I had to)…and cue sauna and laps.
A shower, an evening out, and a really good night’s sleep was followed by 55 more laps when I woke up, breakfast, and some much needed in-​room chill time.
We checked out at 3 and hopped right on the Pike — done and done.
If for no other reason, book this place over the local comps for the pool, updated rooms, pool, central location, attached parking, pool, gym, pool, comfortable beds, pool, nice views, pool, and dining options. Also pool.
When we do Boston we usually stay in Waltham… but I’ll be back downtown for, if nothing else, 55 more laps in the pool.

Overall I had an amazing stay at this Hyatt. It’s in a great location, too! Tons of great places to eat and drink in the area which is most important to me. Also, it’s about a 10 – 15 minute car ride from the airport which is convenient.
As for the amenities, it’s a very nice hotel overall! The lobby+restaurant is classy, they both have plenty of places to sit, and they have very modern décor. I ate breakfast at here one morning and while it is overpriced, the food/​menu is decent.
During my stay it was going through renovations. My room was newly renovated and everything was pretty nice. I noticed that the bathroom doors don’t close all the way (same for my friend’s rooms) which is probably a result of a construction mistake. The one set back which was pretty annoying at times was the construction. There were a couple times that there was loud drilling or banging around 9 – 10 AM but they gotta do what they gotta do I suppose. However, it was quite annoying nevertheless. One of my friends rooms lights wouldn’t work and he came home to them trying to fix it at midnight. Great they were trying to fix it, but stink it was an issue in the first place. I’m sure they’ll get all the kinks worked out once construction ends.

Several of us stayed at the Hyatt Regency Boston for a work conference. Some of the rooms are undergoing remodeling right now, but the room I stayed in was new and beautiful! The staff is among the friendliest I’ve encountered in a hotel. They were all happy to help us. The room service food was excellent, as was the breakfast buffet. The bed is definitely firm, which I didn’t care for, but that’s a personal preference. Also, the pillows are down, something else I don’t care for. I like a soft bed and a firm pillow, and these rooms are the reverse of that. Great location with reasonable prices, and I really can’t say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff was.

Pet peeve #38 947: When someone who travels 1x/​year reviews a hotel and bases their rating of a property on a single, non-​reproducible event. Like when someone gives a hotel a 1 star rating because their valet service took 20 minutes to get them their car. Ugh.
But I digress. The Hyatt Regency in Boston is a tale of pre and post renovations. Prior to their recent renovations, I suspect that some of the lower ratings were well justified. There are certain aspects that remain in need of attention before the property will be comparable to some of the other Hyatt Regency properties around the world (e.g., elevator wood paneling is chipped), but overall, the renovated lobby and rooms are fantastic.
If you are fortunate enough to stay in one of their newly renovated rooms, you’re in for a treat. Thoughtful components include a charger/​mini-​table attached to the side of the bed so you can leave your phone next to you, an HVAC system that actually sets the room to the right temperature, and a bathroom which is tastefully done are all things I enjoyed about my recent stay at the property. In addition, you are very much in the center of downtown Boston, and walking distance to the majority of the tourist attractions you would want to see. Oh, and possibly most importantly: despite having a room that was near the elevators, it was remarkably quiet all night. The hotel walls/​doors were some of the best I have visited, and it was much appreciated that it was quiet night’s sleep.
So why the 4 star rating, and not 5? Though Hyatt has started a chainwide policy to offer free WiFi (duh, it’s 2015), it still charges hotel guests $ 5.95 for 15 minutes worth of internet if you wanted to use their hotel business center. Seriously? I remember paying these kind of rates in 2001 overseas, but in the USA? What a money grab.
Pro tips for guests staying at the property:
1. You can remain indoors, and walk to the Macy’s and to Downtown Crossing MBTA station.
2. Their hotel restaurant charges an arm and a leg when there are many fabulous restaurants (you’re next door to Chinatown) nearby.
3. Do not pay the $ 4 for the hotel coffee. There are 539 Dunkin’ Donuts within walking distance.

The front desk staff was very nice, gave us a room with a beautiful view.
Doorman, lower floor concierge were all excellent.
They were totally understanding about our delayed check out because I wasn’t feeling well. Also let us check our bags for a few hours after we had already checked out.
The bad:
Had a quick meal at the bar before heading to the afc championship game and the service was perhaps the strangest I’ve ever received. Drinks and orders took awhile despite the bartender standing right in front of us, not busy. My friend ordered an arugula salad and wasn’t told they were out until a good 15 – 20 minutes later… With that in mind food took forever to come out for an appetizer spinach dip and a Caesar salad. The drinks were ok, food was decent, considerably overpriced however.
Also, I ordered a lobster grilled cheese from room service, it was good but I spent all night and the better part of the next day puking. I can’t even look at lobster these days…
And not enough towels.
