Despite my complete disgust with this place a friend lured me in with the promise of free drinks. I have to say that all the free drinks in the world would not get me back here. The large bathroom was flooded, just like the last time I was there, and I noticed they didn’t have a door on the disabled stall. I understand that this might be an attempt to keep people from doing drugs and such in there, but disabled people deserve a place to use the bathroom without people watching. This is utterly insulting and ablistic. There’s even a bathroom attendant so there’s simply no excuse for this. Jump to an hour or so later. I’m on the dance floor when a woman vomits in the middle of the floor. Yes, she threw up on the dance floor. I don’t know if she was ill or over served, but this was a serious health hazard. I went to the bar and told the bartender what happened and pointed out the woman in the hopes that no one would serve her anymore and someone would clean up the puke. We’re now at the end of the night and I’m crossing the dance floor to leave. My foot slipped in something wet and I almost fell on the floor. Take a guess what made me almost fall and hurt myself. Yes, that’s right, VOMIT. Over an hour later and there was still vomit on the dance floor. There is simply no excuse for this. Machine needs to be shut down permanently. This bar is also full of primarily young(think 21 or 22) white folks and primarily plays music that would appeal to white people. Just avoid this monstrosity and head D Bar in Dorchester.

Used to go to Ramrod back in the day. Things change, I understand. I’m not one who wants the world to stand still. But still … went there(not knowing the whole place is called Machine now) on Saturday night while I was home for the holidays. $ 10 admission for a place that was about two thirds empty. Separate entrance fees for both upstairs and downstairs. I was going to Ramrod back when the basic queen who took my money was in diapers, and this b — - threw me attitude like they were doing me a favor taking my money. Very overpriced, weak, weak, weak drinks, which is the opposite of how it used to be. And it looked like they haven’t sunk a dime into maintaining the place in about 15 years. I can only assume they’re holding out until someone buys the place to convert it into condos or another baseball-related bar or something.

Just came in from out of town, and this place is the worst. I should have known since it was 18 and over. But we paid 10 dollars each, and apparently that only gave us access to the lower area that was filled with a bunch of kids that were drunk and annoying. The worst.

The bar is OK on Friday nights only. Other than that there’s maybe five people there. They often charge a cover for the upstairs and the downstairs separately. This is a cash only bar. Do not use the ATM!!! It clearly states a two dollar ATM fee. It doesn’t tell you is that charges you the two dollars several times.

The venue was good. There were a lot of people but the club did not live up to its reputation. The bars were crowded and understaffed and the drinks were extremely sub-par. I ordered a gin and tonic, a friend ordered a rum and coke, another friend got a Long Island, all unpalatable, all from different bars. The music was dance-able but not great. If you’re a local I would say it’s a good place for consistency but as a visitor definitely not a prime example of the best of the Boston gay scene.

The bartenders here are awesome and friendly. I got here after 12 and after paying a $ 10 cover I was told I can’t go downstairs by the bouncers although some bouncers said I should be able to go down. That rule is pretty stupid and confusing. This club seriously need to work on their staff some of them are just plain rude and disrespectful even if you try to communicate with them nicely. Stop acting like this is an upscale club in Dubai especially if you let people enter wearing crocs on their feet. Miss me with that!

There was some confusion between the bouncers. One said we didn’t have to pay unless we wanted to go the event downstairs, we just needed a ticket. The other said the opposite. I don’t like that clubs do that but whatever. The bouncers were accommadating, and the issue was resolved quickly! Club started getting busy around 11:30 so until then, the drinks came pouring! I’m not really a drinker, but they were good. The bartender was cool. Drinks were pricey-ish(I thought), but my friend paid for them anyway lol. The music was BOMB! The played Whip/Nae Nae 2xs(Oo watch me, watch me!) I had a blast, no complaints whatsoever. The club was clean(bathroom had slight smell but clean), and there was a great looking crowd. Awesome way my to commence my 22nd ‘anniversary’. Definitely looking forward to going back!

If I was 10 years or maybe even 20 years younger, this would be 5 stars but I might also be the type watching my dollars. Cash only transactions. Got here early, $ 10 cover(doesn’t bother me), not too crowded. Bartender was more than willing to make whatever drink you want(so I had a moscow mule). It wasn’t bad. There was somebody performing for an early crowd and he was pleasantly entertaining(singing the current hits(Swift, Grande etc.). After the entertainment, the music switches to the dj and the decibel level increases. Old man should have brought ear plugs… oy vey. Definitely a very young crowd. Machine is in the basement, a separate cover is charged for upstairs which had Latin night(more latin flavor and older crowd). In the basement, there is a separate area for pool tables(another dj) so you can get away from the thump thump thump music. Overall, I might visit with a group but never alone since this was too young a crowd for me. My sister where I was staying living in Newton made it prohibitive to visit other places on a Friday night. Besides, like California, bar hours are only until 2 am(lights on 1:30).

Well, well, well, Machine isn’t just a gay bar anymore. While in need of a face lift, the guts of this place are different, and many older reviews don’t apply. There are still gay nights, including the dance party that brought me back there in the first place. Fridays the downstairs closes at one, but you can stay upstairs and keep the party going. Saturdays and weekdays rotate the music played and the crowd that it attracts. Avoid lesbian night, unless you want to be packed in a room of tough girls and listen to the same music for four hours. My drinks are always good. The bartender in the front serves candy with the drinks. Most of the bouncers are friendly. The girl in coat check has super powers. And glow sticks. The place is cash only, and there is an ATM. The queens do their thing really well. More performers and go-go dancers than average. On the weekends there is something for everyone, but the somethings are getting younger. Basically, this place has the feel of what was once a gay dive bar and is morphing into a nightclub without the glitz and prices of downtown. Come as you are, do what you want, have fun. If you find the strong drinks and that something, there are buckets of condoms in the corners.

I went here once and only once. Cover fee was not too bad. The people were. Even for a club there was way too much face sucking and people looking like they were about to get«need a room crazy» all over the club. People were acting stuck up and really rude. Everyone just seemed to wanna hook-up or act like they are the best. It was very trashy and unwelcoming. Would never go again.

I had mixed feelings about this place… A++++ for the bartender. I wish I could remember his name… cute blonde guy. Super friendly and attentive! Bravo to him… I love the diversity and the nostalgia because we came here all the time in my younger years. Met the manager and he was super friendly… points taken off for the fact you have to pay two separate covers for one place. If you don’t like the music then you can’t just check out the other room. Points also lost for the DJ. What a jerk! It was my friend’s 30th Bday and both she and my fiancé were trying to request songs. He rudely said«Listen if you want to hire me for an even I would be happy to play what you want. But you’re not. So I am not playing any requests» or something to that effect. It was not appreciated by my group at… luckily the fun environment and great bartender saved the evening!

Came here last Friday with some friends and had a really good time – but I attribute the fun mostly to the company, not the club itself. There was a good crowd(all shapes/sizes/genders) and plenty of dancing, but the music was nothing memorable and we had a really negative experience with the man working the coat check, who was incredibly rude to us. In addition to his bad attitude, he fished my friend’s scarf out of her sleeve and made her pay an extra $ 1 to check it(on the same hanger as her coat – no extra room needed). It was bizarre and just unnecessary, and really left a bad taste in our mouths. The drinks were small, but not too pricey and made strong. $ 10 cover and cash-only at the bar, which was a little inconvenient but we managed. My best advice would be to slip the DJ a new playlist or two and replace that rotten coat check grouch. He belongs under a bridge somewhere, not in a club.

I made a Unilocal account specifically so that I could send out a PSA about how horrible Machine is. I’ve been to Machine a couple of times, and the last time was horrid enough that I will never return. The service was terrible and every staff member I encountered was unfriendly. My night started in line, when I was drinking a Sierra Mist that I had purchased from a store down the street. A bouncer came over to me and asked me to give him my drink, which I did, assuming that he assumed there was alcohol in it. I gave it to him, said«It’s Sierra Mist» and he said«I’m going to take this.» I said«Why? It’s Sierra Mist» and he gave me a threatening look so I said«fine, take it.» He then proceeded to come back over after throwing it away to verbally threaten me again, saying, «Next time I recommend you don’t give me an attitude.» He was incredibly rude and full of himself, but I brushed it off because it was freezing and I wanted to get inside with my friends. I’m sure they have underage people drinking in line all the time. Then, when I got inside we had to wait at least 10 minutes to get our coats checked, which was ridiculous. They have a terrible system for checking coats and each item you want to check costs $ 3. Now, when I went it was about 9 degrees outside and I walked, so I wore a hat, scarf and coat. I asked to check all the items together and was told it would cost $ 9. I recommend placing your scarf and hat in the pockets of your coat before getting to the front of the coat check line. Finally, at the end of the night I was feeling a little dehydrated so I went to the bar and asked for a glass of water. The first bartender told me to go to the main bar. The bartender at the main bar told me to go to the juice bar. The guy at the juice bar told me he only served bottled water. I don’t know if this applies only to people under 21, but you cannot have a cup of water — you have to purchase bottled water. That’s incredibly unsafe ESPECIALLYGIVENTHATTHEYONLYTAKECASH. A drunken kid could easily spend all his cash on getting in and coat check, need a cup of water, and be unable to buy one. Machine has appalling customer service and deserves to go out of business.

I love this place! I’m a straight girl who goes with her gay best friend and we always have a good time here. The bartender Rob is our favorite. He makes a signature drink that’s amazing. Love the go-go dancers downstairs and the drag queens upstairs. Karaōke nights are fun and costume/dress code nights are always interesting. Make sure to sign up for emails so you know what’s going on each night. Pride Night is by far the best night if the year!

HOW, HOW, HOW does such an expensive cover and drink cash-only crap hole stay open?! I understand this is Boston, a city known for lame nightlife, but really?! $ 10 cover and extra cover if you want access to «downstairs dancing» in what looks like a dungeon? Bar tender made drinks wrong with the exception of opening a beer bottle for one friend. What’s so hard about a Vodka-Sunrise or Cranberry and vodka? The restroom was worse than any rest area or truck stop. Most patrons were all old enough to be grand or great-grand parents. Maybe we were there on nursing home Saturday. If this would have been my 1st exposure to a gay club — I’d never come out of the closet!

I went for lesbian night with a group of servers and bartenders I work with. I went to 5 different bartenders throughout the beginning of the night & ordered the same shot(that was on their specials menu) & none were even remotely close to each other. I told myself it wasn’t a big deal, it seemed like the staff didn’t know their way around the bar, so I figured everyone was new. A shot is a shot, right? I’m in the industry and always feel like I have to overtip. This night was no different. I bought these girls a round of overpriced drinks and left the bartender a 40% tip on a $ 60 tab. I ordered a Grey Goose-Red Bull for myself but the bartender gave me a quick 2 count of the vodka & filled the rest of my plastic cup w/Red Bull. I decided to complain about Red Bull with a splash of vodka. She rolled her eyes and told me she was nice enough to give me a double shot and that I’m gonna have to deal w/it. I would NEVER treat a customer that way, and especially would not treat a good tipper that way. Ended up finding one bartender at the end of the night that knew what he was doing. Though at that point, I reached my limit on $$ I allotted myself for the night. The DJs were great as always. Next time, I’ll save my money and pregame heavily!

In the 10 years that I have lived in Boston, I am just now discovering Machine. I was so super surprised at how clean and new it looked in here, the last few places are the typical, kind of dirty but fun clubs. Friday nights ate 18+ and boy does it get busy in the main room. The pool table room is ok, they sometimes play some older music that the kids wouldn’t know(80s and 90s). Also the mix of people is great, male, female, transgender, drag, gay, straight, neither, all of the above! Also, they pour a strong drink, which is clearly the most important thing.

There is no place I’d rather spend my Friday nights than Machine, where you can dance to the latest pop hits(Ke$ha, Katy, Gaga, and Rihanna are all on regular rotation) with an overwhelmingly fun and upbeat crowd. Letting the wee ones in(Machine hosts an all age«concert» on Fridays) definitely fosters a more energetic atmosphere. Just be prepared for 16 year-old twinks to dance up behind you when you’re least expecting it. The party downstairs may only go til 1, but it’s a blast while it lasts.
