ODB Liquors

Went in last Tuesday January 12^th after running some errands to pick up some liquor on the way home. I’m 21, turned 21 last July, and have a valid government issued Maryland license. When I was paying, I gave my ID to the cashier, who studied it carefully. Now, I understand that Maryland IDs are few and far in between in Massachusetts, but SINCE it is a VALID ID I didn’t think twice about it. The cashier gave the ID to the manager, who by the way, did not even look or speak directly at me, and just said «I’m going to confiscate this ID». I of course was pretty upset since I am over 21. I asked her why but no explanation was giving. So I told her, seeing no other option and being pretty upset, to call the police, since I knew that when the police came they could look up the number and would realize it was valid. She did not comply, asked «Why don’t you call the police»… I told her my phone was dead. After several minutes of her simply sitting there, not doing anything or speaking, I repeated myself. I admit, I was angry, but who wouldn’t be? Finally she told me, «Why don’t you go back and get your passport, and if it is a valid ID I would be happy to give it back.» So I rushed home, got my passport, and came back. After several more minutes she handed the ID back to me. There was no apology, no «I’m sorry for the trouble.» Then, upon looking at the ID when leaving the store, I realized that it had been bent and scratched and bubbled by their «investigation» as to whether it was real. Which means that it is no longer usable. Frustrated, I went back in, and said «this isn’t supposed to happen, I understand a lot of college students try to use their fakes, but I’ve never had an issue before, and you should’ve known it was real.» I told her I was going to have to get a new ID and she would have to pay, and she says «If you do decide to get a new one, we will pay.» Again, no sympathy, no apologizing. I don’t WANT to get a new ID, I have to now. And if I can’t order it online it means I will have to wait 6 — 12 months until I next return home.
Awful customer service. And people who don’t know what they are doing when checking IDs. There are 3 liquor stores nearby. I recommend Mission Hill Liquors but frankly, anything is better. It should’ve been offered that a new ID would be bought, but no steps were taken. Now my ID is destroyed.

The location was very clean and tidy, in addition to the great location. The staff members seemed knowledgable and were quite friendly. I was impressed with wine selection, and the beer selection had great variety.

Dangerously close to my apartment, I come to ODB Liquors more often than not. The entire store is clean and organized, allowing me to get in and out of there before I purchase too much booze than my apartment can hold. They have a nice variety of beer and wine, which is nice when my friends have far too many preferences. Their liquor selection is pretty decent, as well, and it’s stocked behind the counter where there is always someone to help you out.
The prices are good for being in the city of Boston, so I never feel like I’m being ripped off by purchasing my alcohol here. There are larger liquor stores that I frequent that have a much larger selection of everything and anything, but ODB is great if you’re not looking for something too specific.

Big selection, but more expensive than other places. Staff seemed knowledgeable as I heard them helping other customers.

Spacious, clean & well-​lit. Most everything is priced & in stock. The service is great & prices are reasonable for the area. They have a large selection of cold beverages.

Great selection of beer, and super friendly staff! When you can catch the deals, it’s even better. It’s My favorite liquor store in the area.

I have been a loyal customer to ODB since 2011, the other liquor store on trement suucks, they are over priced and not friendly. This place has hennessy cheap. the girl that works there is hot. i love ODB liquors. Merry christmas !!

Pretty friendly and decent selection. Prices are about par with specialty shops.

The beer selection isn’t that extensive, at least compared to many good liquor stores in my home town. But they have chosen well – their microbrews are all interesting and high quality. The staff were friendly and the layout was spacious. I didn’t buy wine, but they appeared to have a great selection. Definitely recommended!

GREAT beer selection. They also have a solid wine and liquor line up. The layout of the store is very nice and it’s always clean and well organized. The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable. This is our go to liquor store in the Mission Hill area.

The first thing you notice is this place is very large, clean, and spacious. It has a wide selection liquors and beers including a huge selection of craft beers such as Pretty Things, Victory, Berkshire, etc. as well as domestics.

I shop here all too often, but I love the service I get here. There is one particular sales associate that is always super friendly & we chat about beer — what’s new, what we like, etc. I just have to share how she once went through the 12packs to find a specific one to set aside for me. It totally made my night/​week/​whatever.
I love the deals that they have (recently seen: free glass with purchase, $ 10.99 18 pack, etc)… & I like that they seem to try to have something new in the beer coolers every once in awhile when I want to expand my horizons.

Sure, it’s got a pretty good selection, fair prices, friendly staff, and all that.
But what really earns it its fifth star is its name, live and uncut.

I’m 99% sure they actually polish the liquor bottles behind the counter. It’s always so shiny and bright.
They also have the best beer selection on Mission Hill… I came back from an open house at the Sam Adams Brewery, having just tried the Chocolate Bock, and they had it! Granted, it was $ 15 for a 22oz, but I think that’s more because of Sam Adams than ODB.
I like to place my order at Brigham Circle Chinese next door, then pop over for a 6-​pack of Cherry Wheat or something, then go pick up my Chinese and be on my way. Very convenient.

If for no other reason, check out ODB liquors just for the name.

Best Liquor store in Mission Hill. They don’t carry Wild Turkey, which is a serious black mark against them if you ask me. But, never mind that — ODB (I like that all the reviews so far discuss the meaning of the name — One Determined Business? Forget that — you can’t use the letters ODB and have it mean anything other than Dirt McGirt) has a pretty solid beer selection, best in the area, and while the prices aren’t cheap, they’re not ridiculous either. It’s clean and well lit in here, they have some decent wines and plenty of sales. The staff is friendly and they have tasting events from time to time.

It’s impossible to cross their well-​swept, dazzlingly bright threshold without having ODB blast my brain.

Immaculate, no sketch factor, respectable beer choices, something is always on sale, and the employees can be brusque, but under their stern exterior, they’re helpful and sweet albeit slightly awkward fellows.

I must admit from the very beginning of this review that I am bias because I use to work there. However that shouldn’t take away from the fact that everyone working there is all about customer service. From what I’ve seen if there’s something that you want that they don’t have they’ll buy a case for you and to see if it sells.
Everyone there also knows what they’re talking about. These people are hardcore about their alcohol (they made me the snob I am today). Not in a sense that they’re alcoholics, but they always want to know everything about their wines and spirits.
No ODB does not stand for «olé dirty», but if a customer asks I do tell them that it does. Ask the employees sometime about the origin of the name. There’s like a million different stories about how ODB use to come in and chill in the store with a 40.

Ok, I guess I am in here so often that the nice girl behind the counter remembers that I would like a pack of Red’s when I walk up with my 6 pack. This is probably a good thing, but it makes me nervous… Hmmm well the advantage of ODB over Mission Hill Liquors is that:
a. there is enough room to navigate through the store with your backpack on
b. a much better selection
c. far fewer drunks in the alley next door accosting you for change
Like all smaller liquor stores it is more expensive than the big guys but Oh yippee, it’s clean and aside from the cashiers creepy memory — it is a fairly pleasant place to piss your paycheck away in.

Within the year, this place has changed its name to ODB Liquors. And no, I don’t know what it stands for, although I’m not quite sure if ‘Old’ and ‘Dirty’ are involved.
This place is right down the street from my apartment, and I’m kind of glad. While the wine selection isn’t that good (no 1.5 Liter bottles — of anything), The prices are more than decent. The real kicker: they have things on sale, for dirt cheap! Getting a 12 pack of Pete’s Wicked for $ 8 completely makes my weekend! And it makes the buying process easy — buy whatever beer or liquor is on sale this week!
Out of state id’s usually get scanned, and it takes about 2 seconds. Plus there’s a delivery service that my friends have used for quite some time, and have nothing but good things to say about that.
