Rosie’s Bakery

Needed to grab a birthday cake really quickly downtown and Rosie’s definitely helped me out. I got chocolate with vanilla frosting and it was okay but not really good, nothing I’d get again but the customer service was great. They were quick, helpful, and dealt with my indecisiveness with patience as I considered what to have written on it. I also commend the cashier who remained attentive and patient even though it was rush hour and people were coming from all directions.

I work across the street and have come here countless times «trolling» for junk food.
Nothing even looks appealing. their cupcakes just look watery and gross. How is this possible?
This is coming from someone who thinks Swiss Cake Roles are devine… yet I can’t find anything here I want which is shocking.

I don’t think I’ve ever had better sticky buns than Rosie’s.
I can’t really speak to anything else, as this is all we got, but I’m fairly sure that these rich, buttery, cinnamon sugar pecan treats will cure whatever ails you. Except cancer. I guess I don’t know that they DON’T cure cancer, I just haven’t done a double-​blind study yet, and it would be irresponsible to make such claims.

My friends brought a box of assorted pastries, cookies and cakes to our home from Rosie’s and we all enjoyed the delicious treats! The raspberry crumb bars were out of this world, and the giant cookies were soft, chewy and melt-​in-​your mouth buttery. I would have never previously considered stopping to get dessert at a train station bakery, but now I would. Good stuff!

I am OBSESSED WITH THEIR CROISSANTS. They have solved my breakfast crisis. Up until discovering Rosie’s I tried every other breakfast option in South Station, and was deeply unsatisfied. Rosie’s croissants, however, are delicious. My two favorites are the feta and spinach and the ham and cheese. Both are super cheesy and warm, with flaky crusts. I’ve tried other South Station croissants, and they all had the «I used to be frozen» taste to them (I’m looking at you Au Bön Pain, and Cosi’s!) Rosie’s breakfast offerings blow everyone else out of the water. The ingredients are fresh and seem to come from natural sources — not chemicals.
Croissants aside, their desert menu isn’t the best. I tried the chocolate fudge brownie, and although tasty, was woefully undercooked. Rosie’s cakes are a bit too dry.
Rosie’s accept Level Up, but it’s unclear whether I am getting any benefit from it. There is no indication on the app that I am building towards a reward of some kind.
Anyways — best breakfast in South Station. Hoorah Hoorah.

I have been to this location before, grabbing treats before train ride home. But this week I got a carrot cake to celebrate a birthday. Boy, it’s the best carrot cake ever. This is of course if you like the texture of shredded carrot, chopped walnut etc. It was so moist and the frosting was delicious. Do order ahead a couple of days when you plan on getting a cake to make sure they have what you want.

So I was offered a gift card and some free treats if I wanted as a compensation. sent them all my info my address my email… three months later still nothing in the mail.
makes me dislike the place even more and shows how unorganized the management must be!

I love coming here and grabbing a quick treat whenever I’m in South Station. You can’t really go wrong with anything here, but if you’re a chocolate lover: go for the Chocolate Orgasm. I also love the chocolate chip cookies. Great customer service, too.

Rosie’s Bakery (or at least this location) is located in South Station, so it’s probably not the bakery you’re going to pick if you’re not getting on or off a train. I can’t really imagine going out of my way ever to drop by South Station for food. But! If you take the commuter rail and need a cake to bring home or take to work, they are very conveniently located. Or if you’re like me and just happen to be getting off the T at South Station to go to the post office and can’t turn down any bakery you pass, they’re in the perfect place. I picked up two cupcakes, though I had a hard time deciding between a second cupcake and a brownie. They all looked great. The first cupcake I tried was just a simple chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. The cake itself was rich and the frosting was perfectly thick and fudgy. My only (minor) complaint would be that the cupcake could have been a bit more moist. But I’m really a frosting girl, so I was still happy. The second cupcake I tried was the Velvet Underground. If you are red velvet lover, which I’m not really, be warned that despite the word «velvet» in the name, this is a chocolate cupcake. It gets its name from the secret chocolate frosting filling. Normally I like to keep my fillings to a minimum, but since I thought this chocolate frosting was great, I could have gone for much more. It was topped with vanilla Swiss buttercream, which is not my favorite frosting. I know it’s very American of me, but I like my buttercream to taste like more than just butter. Still very happy with my first cupcake and fully aware that the second cupcake, even though it didn’t quite fit my tastes, was still well-​made.

Three letters, D-​R-​Y. I picked up a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting and it was the most dry and overcooked cake I have ever eaten in my life. It was so embarrassing at my Grandmother’s birthday celebration. Seriously, how does a bakery not know how to properly bake a cake? Extremely disappointing.

After dozens of times passing by this packed bakery case and struggling to ignore the sweet smell beckoning me to be bad, my willpower finally broke. I got the chocolate rugelach and let me tell you friends: I have seen the other side of sinning and it is good. I’m not sure if authentic rugelach is supposed to be this buttery and overloaded with chocolate, but I don’t really care. This little flaky nugget was just what I needed to start my 4 hr train ride back to NYC. I bought two and intend on saving one of them for my boyfriend when I get home but it is yet to be determined if it will last that long. Another thing I liked about this bakery is that it is refreshingly small-​time compared to the terminal staples like Au Bön Pain and Dunkin Donuts. I will definitely be trying a little less hard to resist these sweets on my next trip to Boston.

I had to get a last-​minute birthday cake on a rainy day, so I was looking for a bakery close to a T stop to minimize spending time outside. This location is right in South Station, so it was perfect since I needed something along the Red Line. And I remembered seeing a GrouponNow deal for this location before, so the stars were aligned for my first Rosie’s experience. The station was busy with after-​work commuters, but no line at Rosie’s. Nothing is quite labeled, so I had to inquire about the different types of cake on display and prices. Ended up with a small round Chocolate Mocha cake for $ 23.95 and a fruit tart for $ 5.95. Cake was dense and moist. Fruit tart was fresh. Prices are more than reasonable with the GrouponNow, so get it before you go!

I’ve been to the location by Porter Square, and it’s always been really good, but I gave the South Station one a chance due to some really good Groupons.
The selection wasn’t quite as good, but the service was pretty amicable. I grabbed a dark chocolate layer cake for a little function and I was pleasantly surprised. The cake itself was perfectly moist, rich, and only mildly sweet — balancing well with the vanilla butter cream frosting.
All and all, some good cake.

In terms of the service, I just went there and was served by a girl named Lindsay with glasses and green eyes. She was very nice — while she was helping me, a lady stopped by and asked for a free cup — to which she said, «please wait one moment» and continued to help me first. Now that is good customer service.
I basically cleared them out of any baked goods since I was buying stuff for my coworkers and she was very helpful in pointing out which baked goods were good. My coworkers LOVED the brownies that I got for them — congo bars and fudge brownie. Maybe next time I will try out the mint brownie since those looked really good.

Would you like to pay just about $ 4 to get sick! You would! Come to Rosie’s Bakery at 2pm on a Thursday! Order the vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting (any color sprinkles). You can dive into a GRAY and yellow dense cake void of any moisture. THEN the lard frosting can also be eaten as one whole bite due to it not being able to stay on the gray cake. Mmmmmmmmmmm. In the next 60 seconds that follow your insides will feel like they’ve been hit by a bomb.
Minus stars as well because of the rude counter person who couldn’t make eye contact with me (ONLY PERSON THERE) while he picked things up and put them down (in the back). Asked for two items, and got rung up for 1 item — checked bag — 1 item. Repeated order (AGAIN ONLY PERSON THERE) and got 2^nd item. Got rung up again. Entire experience felt so DUMB.
I’ve had the chocolate orgasm brownie in the past. Un-​cooked unremarkable frosted goo blob brownie. I’ll take oral thanks.

I love baked goods, so having spotted a cutie mini vanilla bean cheesecake with cherry topping that practically had my name written on it I had to stop. Since it was there and looking delicious as well I picked up a piece of German chocolate cake as well. My friend got herself a mint brownie and we took our treats back to the office.
A few moments later I dove in to the cheesecake. First off, the cherry topping was clearly some sort of canned monstrosity. It was sticky, sweeeeet and yet mostly flavorless, yuck. A while later I tried the German chocolate cake and that ended horribly. I took one bite and that was enough for me. The brittle, dry, cake crumbled sadly as it loosened itself from the coconut glue on top, and in to the trash went that.
Apparently the mint brownie left something to be desired as well but that’s hearsay :) Now, in fairness I’ve had cookies from here that were pretty good but this trip was very much not.
Three stars for the excellent staff that works here.

I forget why I thought Rosie’s was supposed to be all local and tasty and charming. I tried their chocolate orgasm brownie. Meh. Fudgey. Average. Overpriced. I tried their cinnamon bun. Meh. Chewy. Average. Overpriced.
Oh, and they refused to accept my credit card for a purchase under $ 5, which happens to violate the terms of their agreement with MasterCard. The cashiers said they were sorry: that they knew better and they knew that their boss knew better too and refused to change the store policy. So I reported them:

They’re not worth it; I’ll save my cash for the Farmers Market across the street and my credit card for Flour Bakery across the bridge. You can do better even if you’re stuck in the terminal waiting on your train!!!

Easily one of the worst cupcakes I’ve ever had. I’d MUCH rather have a Dunky Hines based stump cake topped with wonky dollop of Crisco frosting from a grocery store than what they’re selling here at Rosie’s. Which is basically cardboard and plastic, with sprinkles on top. I’ve had a slice from one of their cakes too as well and it’s the same problem.
I’ve also had a cookie and a cheese scone from here, both were fine but nothing special. So an extra star for all that. The staff are kind of absentminded and attitudes definitely don’t match the sugar sweetness of their goods. The location is convenient and if you’re literally running through South Station and there’s no line it may be worth stopping at. Me, I’ll be at the newspaper kiosk getting a reliable rod of Fruit Mentos instead.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a Rosie’s cake. This Rosie’s is located inside South Station. When I worked Downtown, this Rosie’s was a very convenient place for me to pick up a cake on the way to work for coworkers’ birthdays and special occasions. They even customize it too! I’ve had great luck here. All of the cakes I’ve gotten here were very good & hit the spot! The whole office was in a great mood because of it!
