Ordered for the department and was a great hit and very reasonable.

Great lo mein. If you ever need $ 100+ worth of chicken fingers this is your place. They are also very flirty on the phone so the 5 stars was an easy decision.

In a word, HORRIBLE!!! I, truly, have no idea how the food is. The disgusting woman behind the counter with the spare ribs color hair is the rudest person I’ve ever encountered! She has NO business in customer service as she has no idea what that means. I had never been in here before. I have always gone to South Ocean. South Ocean was closed for a time, while it was being renovated by the new owners, so I thought I’d try this place. While ordering, I asked what I thought was a simple question«do your egg rolls have shrimp in them?» The aforementioned horrible woman replied that they did. I then asked«is it possible to get an egg roll without shrimp in it?» I am not a shrimp fan, but, am an egg roll fan. She replied, «NO! he made the egg rolls for the week already!» Uh, ok. So, I opted for other menu choices for myself, but, did order an egg roll for my husband. The horrible woman with all the attitude says very rudely, «the same egg rolls you just said you didn’t want?!» I reply, «It’s for my husband.» Now, since I detected her tone, I asked, apologetically, «I’m sorry, am I confusing you? It is not my intention, and, I realize that I may have.» To which she replies, «NO! I’m not confused, I’m just pissed that you’re so rude!» HUHHHH? Hold the phone! Cancel my order! You are not the only place in town and I’m stunned you’re treating me so appallingly! She replies, and, I quote, «GETTHE F*CKOUTOFHERE!» I thought I was on Punked or Candid Camera! HUH?! Is she crazy?!? I became visibly infuriated! I mean, who does this nut think she’s talking to? I admit, I’m not proud of this part but I replied«MOVEME!» The 3 «men» who were behind her immediately moved to the back of the kitchen and acted like they had no idea this incident was underway. I can only assume that they are used to her attitude and I suspect they were hoping I gave her the smack she deserves! In conclusion, I couldn’t tell you if they have good food or not, I would rather eat from a dumpster than give that rude cow any of my money!

Wow, lots of bad reviews on here for South Boston Chinese… Look, everyone should know that if you are ordering from here, you either: 1) Just left Lincoln or Junction and are completely wasted, needing some late night grub, or… 2) You just really have a craving for greasy goodness, provided by our Asian friends at this location. I think I’ve ordered because of reason 1 about 90% of the time. Remember, YOUAREORDERINGAMERICANCHINESEFOOD… You want some grease, but not a container full. You want some piping hot crab rangoons. Maybe you even want a side of low-mein. Whatever it may be, this place delivers fast, cheap AMERICAN Chinese food. I’ve never eaten the take out from here and was upset about it, not once.

I don’t know what they put in their food, but I always find myself coming back for more. I can’t find a better place for americanized chinese food than this establishment. My favorite here are the chicken fingers and chicken wings; scallion pancakes are also every good. My usual also includes the lo mein and the boneless spareribs. Prepare yourself for ALOT of oil — then again, you’re eating greasy chinese food afterall.

Places like this make me realize how lucky I am to live where I do. I’m not saying Central Connecticut is a bastion of legendary Chinese food, but you can walk into pretty much any joint in the Hartford Area, and at the very least be provided with a serviceable meal… provided that you expect it to be greasy, salty, and terrible for you. This is clearly not true in Boston. You honestly must use caution when selecting a purveyor of takeout Chinese food, and this place is the archetype for said warning. Long story short: I was DRUNK and I knew the food was terrible. The spareribs had no sauce on them, nor any sort of salty rub to make up for the lack of sauce. It was just red-colored meat on a bone. The lo mein was without any redeeming value; it wasn’t salty enough, and the roast pork in it was lousy. The sweet and sour chicken — it had more bread than chicken, and they somehow found a way to select the single lousiest pre-fabricated red sauce known to mankind. I thought that would’ve been the part they couldn’t screw up… they did. I’ll say it again as I have many times — I love crap Chinese takeout. But you gotta get it right to pay the bills. These guys don’t even come close to making the cut.

I’ve never written a review of a restaurant but I was so appalled by how HORRIBLE this chinese food was that I signed up for an account just to post this. Hmm where to start… watered down duck sauce(really? is this possible?), dry and tasteless pork fried rice, thick pieces of chewy meat in broccoli. The«best» thing(really it was still sub-par) was the wonton soup which didnt have much of a taste and had huge chunks of pork in it. They serve rolls with the order. That was the first indication right there. No fortune cookies. Salt on the wound. PLUS this place was expensive. No stars. Never again. Don’t order from here.

Gah. There are two good things about this place: 1. They make delicious french fries 2. It’s open until 2AM Wouldn’t have found out about #1 if it hadn’t been for #2, if you get my gist. AKA…it’s perfect for when you’re drunk and hungry. Anddd that’s about it.

I love hole in the wall Chinese food places and have never thrown out Chinese food ever… Except when I ordered chicken and broccoli from this place… It didn’t taste like chicken. It was physically painful for me to throw Chinese food away…

I’m not going to lie, part of me really hates this place. But it gets 3 stars for being the best chinese food in the area. I’d kind of like to give this place 2 stars. The food is always super greasy and the place is a real hole in the wall. The kitchen is very open and sometimes, when I’m in there, I wish it wasn’t. Not that there’s anything dirty about it, per se, it just doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling. That said, they’re quick. And if you’re just looking for a simple carton of chinese food, this place isn’t bad. Might be the best in Boston, truth me told, because after trying a number of different places, I keep coming back. And for that, you get a 3-star review. PS. I must say, South Boston Chinese Food has to be the worst name ever for a restaurant. Try googling that name without getting a result filled with all its competitors as well.

I have been going to SoBo Chinese Food for as long as I can remember. Maybe 20 years? They have been there forever. It definitely can be hit or miss. I think they make the food fresh on wednesday because whenever I get it on that day it tastesthe best. I love the crab rangoons here. The chicken fingers have way too much breading? on them. The pork fried rice is nice and shiny brown and greasy the way I like it. I usually just stick with the apps at this place. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are gigantic. There open til 2am so great for the drunk munchie nights :)

I’m a 24⁄7 eater of Peking dumplings and for some reason Nanning Wok was closed :(I headed over to South Boston Chinese Restaurant to grab some of the same. I was impressed with their open kitchen, thanks to my mom I’m a freak about seeing the back of Chinese places. BUT I didn’t really like what I got. They were small, and the filling(meat) tasted funny. The ginger sauce was thick and too sweet, I’m not even sure what it was. It was a considerably smaller portion at $.50 less than down the street. However, I’m open to trying it again and giving it another chance!

I accidentally called and ordered from this location thinking it was Nannning Wok(I had written down both numbers). I had already ordered from Nanning the night before for delivery since my wife and I were staying at a nearby hotel. The food here wasn’t as good but still edible. That’s a good thing, right?

Love this place, might not be open by the time you leave the bar, but I’ve often found myself leaving early enough. to ensure myself some greasy goodness. Best Chinese in Southie. Even have an old friend who has moved that loves it so much, when we visit her in Maryland we have to bring some chicken fingers. (If it’s getting late and they refuse pickup, have it delivered but stop in and grab it, you are only saving them a trip.)

Definitely my favorite Chinese place on the West Broadway strip. Great, if greasy, Lo Mein, and everything is very quick. If you can catch them before they close, it’s great for a late night snack — or to cure a hangover the next day.

Okay, granted its a hole in the wall, literally, but this is by far my favorite Chinese place in Southie. Delivery is always speedy. The delivery people are friendly. The food is your basic Chinese food, but a lot of it. The lo mein is overflowing. The peking raviolis are better than most places. The harmoon style noodle is very light and filled with meat and seafood. You pretty much can’t go wrong with what you order.
