Superb Bicycle

I’ve been bringing my bike to Superb for a few years now and have always had a good experience. My latest trip was pretty spectacular.
I needed to get my bike boxed and only had a few days to do it… I went to REI and asked if they could help and they practically laughed in my face. «It’s back to school season, we’re booked solid for two weeks straight, you should have thought about this ahead of time!»
Concerned and upset, I walked two blocks to Superb to see if they could help me. I was greeted by Craig who after after explaining my situation told me he could help! He said that he would stay late on a Saturday to get it done, if need be.
Thank you so much Superb and Craig for allowing me to bring my bike to California and for being super awesome! You really showed some amazing customer service and it will not be forgotten.

I definitely thought this place was gonna make me feel like when you walk into a bar you’ve never been in and everyone just stops and stares at you when you walk through the door but it wasn’t, they don’t suck, they’re super friendly and helpful and I’m definitely goin back, I highly recommend this place, if you’re not stupid you’ll go here

Got a great deal on a bike here that I had spent a couple weeks looking for. They weren’t that well staffed (few employees there, but the employees were helpful, and seemed easy to get along with.

How to make a positive impression on a new potential customer:
— Spend a good 25 or so minutes patiently discussing what I’m looking for in an additional bike, options, and Superb’s custom build capabilities.
— Although they didn’t have exactly the bike I wanted to demo (even though it is listed on their website) — an All-​City Macho King — ask me to come in and try two other bikes from the company to get a feel for the weight of the steel and geometry of the frame.
— Suggest that I try other bikes that could fit my need.
— Agree that I’ll come in in two days to meet.
How to ruin that goodwill:
— I show up and ask for the person I spoke with. Turns out the guy I ask is the same guy I spoke with. However, he doesn’t remember our conversation. Let’s call him C-​1.
— C-​1 tells me he’ll be back with me in a minute. 30 minutes later I’m still waiting — in a sweltering, cramped showroom. Patience has expired and I am getting pissed.
— Another employee overhears me sharing my frustration with my wife and offers to help. Let’s call him C-​2.
— I tell C-​2 about the conversation with C-​1. He tries to help but they don’t actually have the bikes C-​1 said they did two days earlier. C-​2 said not everyone is up to speed on inventory. I point out that the bikes are on the website. C-​2 says that the website is out of date.
— We discuss options. Thirty minutes later I still haven’t been on a bike. I’ve now been here for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
— C-​2 takes my contact information and says he’ll push the owner get a Macho King and will be back to me in a couple of days. That was last Saturday. Today is Friday. No call from Superb.
Did I mention the bike I am trying to buy from them costs $ 2,700?
Superb is chaotic. Instead of having a person at the sales counter, staff on the sales floor helping shoppers, and a mechanic fixing things — like strollers, evidently — everyone is doing miscellaneous tasks. The bike selection is mainly low-​end Jamis single speeds, urban fixies, some decent Bianchi, but none of the cool builds they have on the website. I basically wasted two hours talking and meeting with them and another hour commuting to and from their store. And Superb wasted a sales opportunity.

Did not go in as I didn’t need anything but was SUPER psyched to be able to fill my tire at the self-​serve pump out front!

The chain fell off my bike today so I walked it over to the closest bike shop, which was Superb. I was helped immediately, and it only took a few minutes. The store is really cute, with lots of cool stuff in it.
My kickstand is pointy at the bottom and scratches my floor, so while my chain was being put back on I asked if they had any solution for that. The guy helping me went downstairs to the workshop and came back up with a rubber tip that fixed the problem perfectly.
When he finished, I asked how much I owed and he said I was all set. It was really nice.
Next time I need some new stuff for my bike, or a tune up, I’ll come here! Very nice people and quick service.

When I moved from out of state, I had my bike shipped directly here to be assembled. I called to make sure they would accept the bike, and emailed once it shipped to give them an ETA for the bike.
Once I got the delivery notification from FedEx, I called to verify it’s delivery. The woman who answered said it had arrived and the mechanic was pretty busy so it might be done in two days, but otherwise after the weekend. I still hadn’t heard from them after a couple days so I called to check in on its status. Turns out, the paperwork had never been done for it, so the mechanic didn’t even have it on his work list.
When I went to pick up my bike and expressed my displeasure at their disorganization and unprofessionalism, the mechanic and Jason acted miffed, as though they did nothing wrong. They said the actually bumped up my bike on the work list and fixed it faster than they would have otherwise and gave a half-​hearted apology. It was almost as though I had inconvenienced them, instead of the other way around. That was great, but had I not called, I have a feeling my bike would still be languishing in pieces in their back room.
Even though their location is convenient, I’ll take by business somewhere more organized and with better customer service.

So, my poor bike chains fell off both gears and got stuck and so I walked into Superb asking if they were able to fix it. They guy who helped me out told me that they were backed up for weeks for some reason, but he would check if he were able to fix the bike then since there weren’t any customers around. Plus, it would have been silly for me to wait weeks for a simple fix when (I presume) the other bikes in need of service were pretty messed up. While he was fixing the chain, I walked around the little shop and looked at some of the gear they were selling. I felt kind of awkward because the store was quiet and the wooden floor creaked whenever I stepped around.
The guy was super helpful and answered some basic questions because I’m new to biking. Overall, I paid $ 10 to fix the bike, which I’m kind of sad about because I dropped a good amount of money at Landry’s a few days before to do a full tune up the bike. I guess that’s for the labor, but because Superb is such a small shop, it makes sense. Thanks for helping out!

I bought a defective tube at Superb, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so offended by the customer service process that followed. I’ll never go back.

I feel terrible giving them even one star. Brought a bike here for a simple flat fix and fill, but when I got home, I found there was a leak in the tire — something they should have easily caught if they’d glanced at it for more than a second.
Returned to get the leak fixed and found that they’d improperly reattached the dérailleur after placing the wheel back on. The whole bike wasn’t aligned correctly, and when I came back five minutes later to have them fix their poor adjustment, they told me it «wasn’t a can of worms they wanted to open right now.»
Since their shoddy repair, numerous bits and pieces have fallen off the bicycle. All told, I estimate approximately $ 150-​$ 200 worth of ADDITIONAL damage they CAUSED. And, of course, the few times I’ve brought the bike back in or attempted to get them to fix their terrible «repairs,» the hipster clerks have been nothing but rude and unhelpful.
Long story short: Do NOT under ANY circumstance bring your bike to Superb for repairs. The damage caused is absolutely ridiculous. I regret ever walking in the door.

I went to superb for a cute, comfortable bike to ride around town. They had a big selection which was nice and the employees were all very helpful and super friendly. I decided on a linus mixte. I love it! The mechanic added some accessories on the spot and i was off riding my new bike that same day! Yay

I love this place. They are great. Knowledgeable, friendly and decent. They’ve fixed my bike many times and they always do a great job in a very timely manner.

I’ve really enjoyed Superb, they are part of Cambridge Bikes, but I reccmomend the shop for riders looking for a track or single speed bikes. The place has a fixie fever to it and the clientel are usually younger hipsters or messengers.
Not reccomended for new cyclists on a tight budget, a lot of the accessories, apparell and frames will set you back a good chunck of dosh, but the quality is there.
Even when I lived overseas, they were very helpful with allowing me to pay for a product a head of time for a friend to pick it up and mail to me (cheaper postage, I reckon).
Interior is beautiful, sales associates have been helpful when I have visited, and they put together rides on specific nights, including a lady’s night!

I called ahead to Superb, telling them I had a brand new bike and needed to get my tires trued. They told me to bring it in and they said they would look at it.
So I went into the shop, where it was COMPLETELY empty. I talked to the chick at the front counter with the gauges and she seemed completely impatient with me, interrupting me as I told her that I had called ahead and what it was about. She called for a mechanic named Tom who didn’t even acknowledge me, let alone look at me. I would sort of understand their lack of customer service if it were PACKED and BUSY, but the shop was neither.
I briefly let Tom the mechanic know what was going on with my bike (that I needed my back tire trued and realigned) and he simply just took a wrench and readjusted my back tire (which I did myself multiple times before). He walked away and said ‘you’re all set’ as he was walking away, not even looking at me.
I walked out, and my back tire was completely rubbing against my brake pads. Thanks man!!!
Their impersonal customer service methods turned a really simple procedure into a frustrating experience. My advice, avoid this place.

I went to basically every bike shop in the area (Cambridge, Back Bay, International, Landry, Ferris Wheels, Broadway, Ace) that I thought was worth checking out. My goal was to buy my first fixed gear /​single speed bike.
Jason first asked me what I was looking for and presented me with options that made sense for what I was looking for. He gave me the straight facts and found him very helpful and honest in his guidance on things that are worthwhile to invest in and essentially unnecessary. I asked for any older model bikes at less than sticker price and I got a sweet 2010 Fuji Feather.
Jason helped me customize the bike and was great in actually taking the time to understand the look I was going for and was always spot on with his recommendations. The bike came out awesome and I couldn’t be happier with it. Enjoy riding it so much more because wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Other employees there were kind enough to answer my «amateur» questions and give me advice on things like best ways to stop at lights and jump back on seamlessly. Superb bicycle is the only store you need check when you’re in the market for a fixed gear /​single speed. Whether you’re looking for great customer service /​fair priced bikes & gear or employees that actually care about how you like the look and ride of your bike, this is the only shop you need check out.
I did price comparisons on bags to Hilton tent city and Supreb was consistently 10 – 20 $ cheaper on all mission & chrome bags. Jason also took care of a broken zipper on my new mission vandal bag and did all the legwork with Mission and snagged me a completely brand new bag.
So moral of the story if you’re in the market for a fg/​ss bike, related gear, tune-​up you only need to go here and you should feel 100% okay not going anywhere else

Imma be honest: I don’t know much about bikes shops and I barely ever ride my beautiful bike (which was built at Superb’s sister shop– Cambridge Bicycle.)
Now that I’ve disclosed my bike shame, I can also say I’ve had generally very good experiences at Superb, and it is my go-​to bike shop. Need a light that will be all matchy-​matchy with your teal rims? They got it. Any odd color you like seems to be represented in their stock. And the presentation is lovely (I’m a sucker for packaging, be it a bottle label or a whole store.)
I can see how they may sometimes seem a bit… stand-​offish, but the staff that I’ve dealt with have been knowledgeable and helpful.
Also, I totally coveted the glow-​in-​the-​dark bike. Totally and completely. But one just doesn’t need two bikes when the first one sits languishing, sadly.

I’ve only had one small encounter with them — just had them change a tire before leaving school (which is right across the bridge, huge plus!) after patching up a flat earlier that morning. They did it for a pretty good price (considering tube + labor) very quickly.
They seem to have a selection of quality bikes & parts and they seem passionate about what they do.

Such a cute little store. The Youngsters here were very courteous the two times I went in here for help. The prices were a little higher than what I’m used to, but it’s Boston prices. And, they were convenient to my school’s location in Kenmore square.

Superb. I am willing to forgive your beyond ironic hipster vibe that sometimes seems to suggest an exclusive rather than inclusive bike ethos. I want to support you because despite all of this you have a decent product, but to not open on time on the nicest day of the year is just bad business. I don’t want to got IBC but I may have to if you don’t get here soon
To your credit you do have Tom, who has an understanding of customer service and is a good mechanic. Give the man a set of keys for crying out loud.

These guys were extremely helpful.
They gave me a superb tune-​up and retaped my handlebars with exceptional skill. The services are a bit pricey, but straightforward.
I used to live just around the corner, and I’d stop-​in. The staff is always welcoming and just chill, in general.
