I’ve had the honor of performing 2 lightning rounds on this weekly show. It’s a great room to perform in. The sound quality is great as well as the consistent turn out from audience members. The bar is cash only, but the drink selection is very reasonably priced. You can also help yourself to water if you don’t drink. Like other people have mentioned before, the show is $ 5 and the host Rob Crean books a lot of great local acts in the New England area.

The Gas is must-see local comedy. Host Rob Crean curates a fantastic lineup every week. For $ 5, you can see comics who have opened for the likes of Louis CK and Maria Bamford, outstanding out-of-towners gigging here for night or two, and new(er)comers who are rapidly establishing themselves as integral members of Boston’s robust stand up scene. Rob is an amiable host who instantly puts you at ease. He has a wonderful rapport with the comics he books and makes everyone, audience members and comics alike, feel welcome and like they are part of something special. If you want laughs, bang for your buck, and the perfect way to start a weekend of gallivanting, look no further than The Gas.

$ 5 for more comics than I can count. SUPER great deal. Cheap drinks. Easy parking. Laughed pretty hard at half of the comedians which I think was a good ratio. One blonde chick was HORRIBLE and painful to watch. Would DEF go back. One tip — A/C was FREEZING and blowing onto the seating area… had to wear winter coat and it was only like 68 outside.

Well… beer was great! As previously stated«some nights are not spectacular» that was this nigh, t spot on! After listening to 3 of the comedians or lack of comedians it was time to go. There was about 4 people who left the same time we did. It’s unfortunate the ratings that have been posted on Unilocal where so high… this was also on a friday night… waste of time except for beer selection.

I love The Gas. Its a cheap date with mostly great comics. Rob Crean is a good host and knows how to excite a crowd. If things every get out of hand luckily he knows karate. Usually he doesn’t have to use it but one time I saw him confront a heckler who was getting mouthy. The dude would not shut the hell up, saying mean nasty things about the way Robert looks. The rude man called him Dumbo ears and let him know he has a pencil sized vagina penis. Rob gets the guy in a full nelson and told him he could break his neck if he wanted to. Mr. Crean then politely asks the guy if instead of having a broken neck if he would rather«just cool it» instead and enjoy the show. The emasculated heckler says yes and Crean lets him go. Compassion is what separates us from animal he proclaimed to no one in particular. Then he continues his act and knocks it out of the park with an amazing Luke Wilson impression.

The Gas comedy show is pretty great. I know this, because I’m pretty great, and I do comedy there. Other people who are even greater than me do comedy here, so it’s doesn’t get much better than this.

The first review was after only going a couple of times, so in this re-review I can officially say that I love it. The show is $ 5. I have seen local, and out of state comedians many times here and there’s always something that brings me back. And the host, Rob Crean, is not only funny but he’s a real nice guy as well. Also, hundreds of babes show up every week. There are studs there too if you like those. Maybe you’ll get lucky and kiss a babe on the mouth or get a back rub from a stud with strong, but gentle hands, or both. It’s a win-win. So… go to «The Gas» at The Great Scott. And for the sake of baby Jesus, sit up front!

The Gas at Great Scott is a real gem, and if you’re planning a night out in Allston, its the perfect place to pregame. The show kicks off early(sometime between 7:30 and 8:00) and gets out in time to grab something to eat just before queueing up for your favorite Allston dance night(there are several within walking distance.) I don’t know if its official policy, but every time I pay the $ 5 cover for The Gas I don’t end up paying another cover to get into The Pill, the best dance night in the area. The comics aren’t all top notch, but to me its interesting to see people at all different levels. The good comics ALWAYS outweigh the mediocre. Rob(the host of the show) is really funny and keeps the mood upbeat no matter what is happening. It’s not unusual to see some national acts pop in from time to time to practice newer material or get ready for a special(Eugene Mirman dropped in at a show I was at a couple months ago.) They also book national acts with some regularity(names such as Neil Hamburger, Marc Maron, and Hannibal Burress who will be there in March.) I could go on forever. In short, I highly recommend this show!

This is a really great comedy showcase every Friday. The host, Rob Crean, is a funny and personable guy, and while some nights are not spectacular, you are often surprised by the level of talent that’s been featured here. Whitest Kids U Know, Christian Finnigan, Dave Barry, and a bunch of other notable comedians have done this hipster comedy room, as have many folks who’ve had specials on Comedy Central. Go check it out, jerks.
