The best Foster’s Freeze we have ever been to… friendly service! The owner was even kind and generous enough to write me an IOU when we first moved to town after ordering, as I didn’t know they were a cash only establishment. When I came back a week later to repay him, he was so surprised that I honored my word and paid him for our meal we had a week earlier. Such nice folks there!

Stopped by this place on our way to Santa Cruz, GPS sent us the wrong way. But anyways, stopped by here and we were going to have a bite to eat. Entered the dinning area and saw that all they took was cash. So we checked how much cash we had and all we had were 9 dollars. So we decided to just get the kids something small to eat. Decided on the hot dog and a drink. When the very polite owner of the restaurant rang us up, it came out to 9.27. He right away said no worries I have .27 cents right here. Also he stated that he would through in an order of fries for them as well. As soon as the order was ready he said here are a few cups of ice cream on the house! This gentleman was awesome. Made us feel right at home. Really love the hospitality, somethung we have not seen in a long while since moving to California. Highly recommend stopping by this place.

I love the folks that run this place, their service, the tasty treats and the spicy Krispy chicken sammies. My daughter enjoyed her burger and waffle fries. Open year round!

Was told to check this place out after we found out the redwood keg deli closes at 5pm, total bummer… However, this Foster Freeze totally rocked! I used to throw them in the category above fast food but below diner food but this location wow’d me. I ordered the double bacon cheeseburger dry with extra onion, large fry extra crispy, and a medium orange freeze. Everything came just as ordered and was mega delicious! I also have to note how caring and considerate the owner of this establishment is. We were waiting outside for our food and my girlfriend was freezing so I told her I’d wait and she could get back in the warm car. Upon seeing my girlfriend getting into the car the owner flagged me over and had made a hot chocolate just for my girl seeing that she was so cold. Total bonus points! We will be eating plenty of more burgers from Richard’s Foster’s Freeze when we’re up in Boulder that’s for sure!

Great guy running the place. 1950s food and low price. Brought a bunch of teenagers and it was perfect for that.

It’s not just that you get large quantities of food for the price you pay or that their Boss burgers rival the best In-N-Out Burger, it’s that their staff is so helpful and friendly. I mean, really nice people. Tips: Boss Burger, nuff said. Large fries can feed a family if they have sandwiches. Be nice to the staff.

A classic place that doesn’t doctor up a burger much. I would even describe it as All-American. The shakes and ice cream are also delicious, even a simple scoop of vanilla is not a bore to taste buds. The spicy chicken sandwich is quite tasty and with a side of their wavy fries you’ve got a great combo. If you’re looking for something simple, this is the place, I sometimes like more variety for a burger. There is indoor and outdoor seating but orders are taken at their window from outside. I wonder what they do when it’s pouring.

Note: As other reviewers have noted, this establishment is CASHONLY!(And the bank down the street charges, I think, $ 3 to use the ATM if it’s not your bank.) I really want to give this place more of a 3.5 — 3.75(the food isn’t anything to write home about), but I’ll be generous and round up because the service is *always* great and, to me, makes up for what the food lacks. The owner, and I assume his family, are always pleasant, cheerful, and they always want to give you extra fries. We usually go here about once a month or so, but this is definitely my go-to place in Boulder Creek. The food isn’t overpriced, and I love the ice cream treats they have available. My current favorites are the Reese’s Twister and strawberry shake. Bonus: the place is always clean. Foster’s may seem kinda like a throwback(especially being cash only), but it has a certain character kept alive by the owner. And the service with a smile keeps me coming back.

Amazing place. The owner is one of the most kindest and generous people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. It was my first time here. Despite carrying a limited amount of cash(I didn’t know it was cash only), he gave me and my brother a junior scoop of ice cream to beat the heat after a long morning of hiking. He was also worried we wouldn’t have enough to eat and even offered to give us a burger. Of course we declined and bought the chili cheese fries to share and those fries were amazing! If you’re around the area or looking to replenish after hiking at big basin, go here.

Nice staff and fast service. Ordered a Reese’s cup twister coming back from the Big Basin forest. It’s an older building right off the highway going through Boulder Creek. The ice cream is always soft and refreshing on a hot day. They do only take cash and that’s a bummer because I don’t always carry it.

Ordered a classic double cheese burger and a chocolate shake. The shake was good that’s why they get 3 stars. The bun on the burger was stale. The beef(?) pattys were un seasoned and flavorless. There just wasn’t enough flavor in that thing to be worth 10 bucks. I can’t say I’ll be going back anytime soon.

The owner and his family are super awesome and serve up equally awesome food! I grew up right up the street and always get the chili cheese fries with onions. The pastrami burger is also really good.

My boyfriend and his family just moved to the area and we tried Fosters Freeze for the first time and it was amazing! We met the owner and he was very nice and even offered ice cream to our dog. We loved the food, especially the milkshakes. Definitely will be returning! :)

Needs a good wash. I’ve lived in this area for a long time & never actually ate here. I still haven’t. Here’s why: I took my family here for a quick snack. Being that it’s winter, it’d be nice to be able to sit inside, both to get away from the ‘characters’ loitering around the tables, and to be warm. It smells like a grease trap. And you have to order outside. And the line was a mile long, because Pop & kid seemed to be the only ones running the show. The entire place is run-down & has a 1970’s feel to it, which would be nice if it hadn’t been cleaned or painted since the 70’s, as well. Instead, I went down the street to the BC Brewing Co & had a fantastic burger, with some tasty beer.

Came here after our 4 – 5 hour hike at Big Basin Redwood for an energy pick me up. It is family run so they seemed a bit understaffed because their business was so good. It’s nothing fancy at all. So if you’re expecting a hip ice cream place. you’ll be disappointed. It is a quick stop and go place. order at the window outside and either take your food to go or eat at their outdoor or indoor seating. I got a small fosters freeze with oreo. They use real. oreo. cookies. And mix it in there with the ice. homg. so good after a long hike and a sunny day. I wish it was possible to mix toppings though. I should’ve asked danngit. The fries were also really good and nice thick cuts. They also offer a variety of food like burgers, and hot dogs, banana split etc… So glad I saw found this place. The wonders of Unilocal.haha.
