Rating is for the web site store. Impossible to use. Lacks information on quantities, availability etc. This is only useful if you’ve been able to visit the store and know what the packaging looks like. To bad because the other reviews are glowing.

I’m a first timer. I know absolutely NOTHING about homebrewing. I went in, told them exactly that, and for once I don’t feel like I was taken advantage of. For a beginner, the got out the starter kit, which i asked for, gave me a recipe to use and showed me where to find all the things I would need. In my excitement, I forgot my malt extract on the counter. I went back a couple hours later and found out they sold it to someone else. Thankfully they gave me another one, as they kind of should, free of charge. They were looking out for my stupidity.

When I first walked in I thought BFS was a vendor for the numerous breweries in Colorado. However; this was the perfect place to get started with home brewing. Super friendly and knowledgeable salesman, Adam, helped me get a kit set up with everything I need. They also have a large recipe book if you’d like to reference it with ingredients that you can purchase there and step by step instructions.

Great place and great help. Their stock is better than any place that I’ve been to. Can’t comment on equipment because I already have mine, however. Plus, their grain mill is powered by an old drill press. Awesome

I’m so glad this shop opened. It’s a follow-on business with roots in the now-closed Hop To It store, only this new incarnation is owned by the former sales staff of the closed business. Today, I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly and excited about their prospects. The interior is clearly in a state of turmoil as they get the business up to speed, but they had all the grains and yeast I needed. If they can arrange the front of the store to use the space well to showcase products and make the grain area less congested, they’ll have five stars. Best of luck new business owners!

This place was a little hard to find but was well worth the search! The building it’s located in is something between a mechanical junkyard and a horror movie set but don’t let that deter you! I’ve been home brewing for a few years now and have had some pretty bad experiences in home brew supply shops. Sexism is rampant in the beer community and some shops have made me feel I wasn’t welcome, couldn’t possibly be knowledgeable, or was something of a novelty. Not here! Staff was friendly, approachable, and were happy to answer my questions. The shop was a little busy and as there is only one scale and one gain mill there was a couple minutes of waiting before I was able to dig into procuring everything on my grain bill. I’ve also encountered issues with other local shops being out of really basic ingredients before but this shop had everything. I also picked up some hard to find ingredients for cheese making which I’d normally have to order online. Prices were on par with other local shops and internet retailers. I’ll definitely be back whenever I have an empty fermentor!

I like this place a lot better than Hop To It. Small space but good selection and knowledgeable, friendly staff. I am glad there is finally a better homebrew store in Boulder!
