Fantastic beer. Owner is very friendly. The location is a bit hidden. Laid back and quaint. I would highly recommend!

So, the ales are fantastic. Hop Haze really is a great imperial IPA. I love, love, love the location, the small local business element, super nice staff, the garage… But good god. Can they please keep the place warm? Ish? The last two times I was there, the front door was wide open and gusts of 40 degree air was rushing in to replace any remaining molecules of comfortable air. Most of us customers had our jackets on. Even the pourer. I would gladly have stayed for a 2nd pint but for the unwelcoming temperature. That and the sports being projected on the wall. Really? Are there not already a dozen close-by dedicated sports bars with good local ale? They could easily give their space something nice like unique lighting, warmth, easy music music, and no TVs! The ales truly stand alone. If they want people to take off their jackets, hang out, connect with each other, enjoy life, and drink good fresh-brewed ales, plural, it’s not quite there.

Major fan! Great, local brewery with really an impressive variety of high-quality brews. The brewery taproom is in a small garage and lends an intimate feel. The ambiance is casual and friendly — I was a fan of the free dartboards! They are true to their Bold Ale statement — the brews are bold and delicious — many are«high octane»(high ABV), which I always prefer! Also a major fan of their glassware — love that they’ve branded the glasses with an assumption that people are going to swipe them(«I stole this glass from J Wells», which, of course, makes people not swipe them! Oh darn you, reverse psychology!!! If you’re in the Boulder area, which we all know is strewn with great breweries, but you want something less commercial and more grassroots with a phenomenal beer selection, then swing by here! It’s just a short bike ride away from the main square /Pearl St Mall area!

Second visit. Enjoyed a flight including a smooth IPA, a nice bitter, a good British amber, and a nice German wheat.

Pleasantly surprised by this little brewery. A very small brewery set in an old industrial building and started by just one guy… J Wells. It’s a tiny space, with not a lot going on, but we played darts and enjoyed the breeze that blows in from the open garage door. For a young brewery the beer quality was solid! I’m a big stout and porter fan, and the chocolate milk stout delivered on both flavor and malty-ness. The English IPA(I wish I remembered the name) was also really great. The Berliner Weiss needs some work — way too watery. I would definitely come back to see how this place grows and evolves.

Such a small, special place. My sister(from NYC) bought me a Groupon to J Wells for Christmas. I’d never heard of it! I’m so happy she got me in there. Incredibly nice staff – so knowledgeable and willing to share. They’re people who are in the brewing business because they LOVE it and can’t help but share their love for it. We will definitely be returning!

Been coming here since it opened. Unique beer, very different from anything else you’ll get in this area. Definitely a locals spot. This beer is not for the faint of heart, when it hits it hits HARD! But delicious non the less. Games, trivia nights, ladies nights, kid friendly, dog friendly what more could you ask for? And not to mention the owner, Jamie is a great guy who built this place from the ground up. Support this place and I guarantee the amazing beer will have you coming back for more in no time!

Had the Lisa and the Hop Haze and Jr Haze. So freaking good. This place is awesome. Super friendly to dogs, open patio, Nano Brewery located in east Boulder. Went with a couple of friends on a spring day and it was great. The beer is so well balanced in flavor there. Each one was fantastic. Going to be coming back here all summer long.

Great craft brewery. Watched it grow over the past year. Fun atmosphere, dog friendly, outdoor seating in summer and great beer. Also, darts!!!

This was probably the most lackluster brewery to which I have been in the last year or so. This is not to say it was bad, but it just did not seem to measure up to all the excellent and/or new and exciting breweries. I tasted pretty much everything on tap, but was not motivated enough to spring for a pint of anything. I noticed that they are offering a Groupon, which does not seem very encouraging for a brewery. They had dartboards; which was cool. However, we were handed a box of broken darts from which we were only able to assemble two working darts(one of which broke on the third toss). This may seem like a trivial thing, but this lack of attention to detail seems to carry over into other aspects of the business.

First, I have to say, it is very commendable what this guy is doing. It seems he does it all by himself, which is great feat in and of itself. The location is kind of hard to find, so you have to hunt for it. The beer itself is ‘OK’, nothing really that made me go WOW like some other breweries. I think he is still trying to find his groove, so I would like to try this place again.

Great hole in the wall brewer. You can watch beer in process in the back, play darts, games, etc. Cozy, intimate layout. A savior from the refined tap rooms of the Arapahoe area.

Not my cup of beer but I can knock a decent brewer with a dream. A few of them were a bit to hoppy for my taste but some do prefer it! The haze was by far my favorite. Average price on the beers but the growlers were a bit more here then elsewhere. Really good groupon deals as we got a flight and two pints for 10.00 plus tip.

I was biking by this place and decided to stop in and check it out. It’s definitely a plus that it’s right off from the bike trail. I had heard good things and wasn’t disappointed. The appearance isn’t the greatest since it’s basically in a garage, but it is very cozy and the atmosphere is great. The beer is also pretty great also! I tried the lights out imperial stout and it was probably one of the best stouts I’ve had in a while.

I finally made it to J Wells about a year after a friend of mine told me I needed to go there. For some reason, every time I went on a beer quest in Boulder it fell off my radar? I liked the four beers I sampled quite a bit. I tried the Imperial Stout, The Imperial IPA, the pale ale and the red. All were solid. Cool that they had a couple dart boards up too! I’ll have to get back up here for sure to try some more of their beers now that they’re definitely on my radar.

The beer here is simply and perfectly outstanding! One conversation with the owner Jamie and it becomes all too clear. He takes his time and does right by the beer. Good beer is his passion and it comes through in every sip. I could tell you all about each beer and why they are so great, but in the end they are all just great and you need to try them for yourself! The ambiance is very simple and casual. It is fun to hang with folks who also really appreciate quality craft beer in an unpretentious environment with a great view of the brewing space! Go on and grab a brew… don’t forget to thank me when you do! ;)

This brewery is nested in a warehouse district of sorts, and that’s fantastic. It’s like a hidden gem and I am so glad we came. Of all the breweries we went to, this was my hubby’s favorite. He opted for a flight of the IPAs while I tasted one of their stouts. There is nothing fancy about this place, but that’s just fine. I would much rather a brewery be worried about their brew rather than the aesthetics of the place. While we were there, they were working on a batch and it not only smelled fantastic, but was really awesome to see. You can tell these guys are passionate about beer and it really translates in their products. There are complimentary dart boards, so we played cricket while we drank our fine beer. They also offered free peanuts for your culinary pleasure. Our whole group gave this place a resounding two thumbs up!!!

This is a great place. I hope it stays small and low-key. It’s Boulder, though, so fingers crossed. Like most nano breweries popping up these days, it’s pretty much a garage tucked away in an industrial zone, with, I might add, an apparently a happening dance studio across the street. The best part is the beer, and«The Best» beer is what you have to try. Despite being only 3.8 percent, it’s got substance and a great easy-drinking taste. The Russian Imperial Stout is my other favorite. They’re all good! This place, along with Wildwoods in Boulder and Gravity in Louisville is where I’m drinking my beer these days.

Given that this place is a nano-brewery it gets four stars(otherwise, it would be less). I think it’s all about expectations. One guy runs this places, brews his own beers, and does it all out of a garage in an industrial park. With that said, I like checking out little places that are hard to find. This place was actually recommended to me so I thought I would swing by and check it out. The beer is okay… nothing especially excellent but, again, it’s better than what I could brew and being a nano you’re basically in someone’s basement. The interior is pretty bare bones but you can bring your dogs, there are plenty of tables to sit at, and the owner is interesting to talk to. Again, this is about meeting expectations… this is a nano brewery and not a craft brewery or macro brewery. It’s definitely worth checking out.
