Boulder Mountain Repair

I have only used this business for a repair recently, but many years ago I did use them to launder a sleeping bag when they were in another location. I am glad I found them again because the zipper on my husband’s sleeping bag had failed on his last trip. I had some advice from a friend who has done this sort of work in the past as to what might be a possible fix.
When I found this business on Unilocal,I realized it might be the one I remembered, which they did confirm, and decided to take the bag out to them. These sorts of repairs always have some uncertainty to them but the staff member I talked to suggested the same first step attempt at a fix that my friend had suggested. It was an affordable ($ 20) way to start and very often works. He offered to try it while I waited, which was what I was hoping. He did the work in about 20 minutes and it seems to be holding. Time will tell, but at least we are no longer shopping for a new bag.
The waiting area was comfortable and I could see many other options for service. They had large machines for cleaning gear. They had bolts of all sorts of tech materials. There was a large rack of jackets, including some professional ski patrol gear, so they seem to be well connected. The staff member did warn me that the replacement slider would be black instead of navy blue like the original, and seriously, function is far more important than color. I did not care at all. Out in the wilderness, all my husband will care about is staying warm!
If you are unfamiliar with this industrial park area of Boulder, just know that there are many buildings, with dozens of small workshops of all kinds scattered through. There are 2 driveways to separate building areas, east off of 47^th, between the intersection with (old) Pearl and the intersection with Sterling. This shop is in the area accessed by the more northern of the drives, the one closest to Sterling. Easy parking.

I discovered the shop accidentally while dropping off shoes at Rock & Resole right around the corner, and on a whim asked about a possible repair on a tent I happened to have in the trunk that I was sure was beyond hope. A chicken had pecked holes in the front mesh panel, and over time the holes had expanded and ripped right up to and along the zipper seam. They took the tent to the back, consulted with each other, and told me yes they could fix it.
The very next day they called and said it’s done – on their own initiative they had put a rush on the job without charging me extra because I had mentioned that I don’t live locally and would be flying home soon, and was going to need the finished tent mailed back to me. So A+ for customer service, and then the repair job itself is outstanding! I really thought I was gonna have to retire this tent that I totally love, but now it can live on! Thanks so much BMR: D

I just took my REI sleeping bag in to Boulder Mountain Repair to have a zipper repaired. They put on a new slider while I waited, and for a reasonable price. Friendly and fast; can’t ask for more than that.

I ripped a hole in my gore tex motorcycle pants. I read the online reviews and despite the neysayers decided to give BMR a shot. –Full disclosure I’d used their services in Lafayette and was happy– I’m glad I went to them. They Repaired the pants on the spot in about 15 mins. Cost was less than $ 20. Great service at a fair price. They said if the repair failed after washing bring them back for a free fix. Can’t ask for more.

Hubby ripped a sizeable hole in his Golite jacket a few weeks after Golite went belly-​up. After a bit of research, I dropped by BMR to see what they could do about the downy situation. They were EXTREMELY nice and fixed the jacket on the spot. It took about 6 minutes and cost about $ 15. The repair looks like it will hold up nicely and likely would have been near invisible on a darker colored jacket (the patch is clear but darkens the area a bit). All in all I am very pleased to have this puffer mended quickly, nicely and cheaply!

BMR did a quick and wonderful sewing repair while I waited. I had forgotten bring my item when I was traveling up to Boulder, and I thought I would have to make 2 trips for this simple repair. BMR did the repair in 15 minutes while I waited! I was delighted!
BMR can be a little hard to find, but the location keeps the rent & costs low in an expensive area. I was greeted warmly at the counter, and immediate repair was completely unexpected! While I am certain only simple repairs can be done while you wait, this is the type of service that made me a very satisfied customer.

I have a Walrus tent made in 2001. Walrus was bought out, then the company that bought them was bought out. The tent isn’t made by anyone anymore and I really like the design. The zipper broke to the entrance and I was about to throw it out. I found Boulder Mountain Repair on the internet. They did an excellent job repairing the tent. It appears they replaced all the zippers. The tent was filthy after 13 years of use. They washed it and it looks like new. Also they did a quick turnaround. I shipped it to them and it showed back up at my house 11 days later.

Ron has built many specialized items for me, ranging from custom car covers to prototype products. He has repaired things while I have waited. Awesome service.

I thought they were very friendly and courteous. They fixed my zipper while I waited and it only cost me $ 10. I would have had to send it to North face and wait six weeks in the winter. I was very happy with the service

I had a couple pairs of pants that need hemmed, they were made for hiking so I thought this guy would know a simple thing like how to hem pants. It took two weeks and they still were not ready, he said he would put a rush and them and have the pants the next day, I went back in and he had hemmed the pants, the thread he used did not match and the stitching was crooked, he had also forgot about fixing a hole in the crouch in one of the pants (he did so while I waited when I picked the pants up). on one pair he just rolled up the extra cloth and sewed it up, so now the bottom of the pants are heavy and when hiking they will get wet and be even heavier. his hours suck, (closed on weekends and takes off five days for holiday’s.) I could have done better to do the pants myself and I will next time.

I needed to have a backpack fixed for my daughter who was leaving for camp in two days. BMR offered to look at it right away and in the end fixed it while I waited for $ 20.
The repair consisted of sewing a few places where the fabric had torn near seams so it wasn’t a very complicated repair job but I really appreciated their willingness to look at it and fix it quickly and for a very reasonable price.

Wow, the other reviews have NOTHING to do with the business. Don’t listen to them. They are obviously people who are related (Dave and Laura R) or people who are pissed that driving in Denver can be rough sometimes.
Anyways, I’ve used them years ago to clean gear that was run through the ringer and they did a great job. I am currently writing this review from Aconcagua Base Camp in Argentina and my gear will need some TLC when I return. I can’t wait to bring it to them!!!

These guys are pathetic. The owner obviously flags negative reviews, but I’ll keep at it. I had a brand new jacket that had a main zipper failure. The manufacturer is a small company that sold out that model, so they couldn’t replace it under warranty. They had me send it to BMR for a zipper replacement. It was sent back quickly, but that is the only thing they did right. First they replaced the nice waterproof zipper with a cheap shoddy big toothed thing that belongs on a duffel bag. Then they returned it with food stains on it and a note that said «sorry, we’ll replace». On top of that the zipper was sewn in horribly, with stitching all over the place and folds of material sewn together. When I called the owner of the shop to discuss the offer of replacement, he just freaked out and ended up slamming the phone down. Fortunately the jacket manufacturer is replacing the jacket with a new one from next years line due to BMR’s total incompetence. DON’T TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR EXPENSIVE OUTDOOR GEAR!

What a bunch of class «A» pricks and hacks. Don’t send anything to these chumps, they will just ruin it. I’ve never experienced such bad customer service. Boulder Mountain repair actually RUINED a failing but functional jacket. I’ve owned retail for 20 years, the owner should call me for an ethics and public relations lesson — but they probably won’t be in business that long.

Strike 1: Their hours are from 10 – 4 Tues. through Fri.
Strike 2: They are in the middle of nowhere, so if you plan on going during your lunch, don’t. Bc like I said, it’s in the middle of nowhere.
Strike 3: They couldn’t patch a TINY HOLE IN MY DOWN JACKET WHICH IS WHY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN BUSINESS!!!
I work in North Denver and get an hour for lunch so I take I-​25 N to 144^th Ave and head West to 120^th. Because nobody knows how to drive in Colorado, seriously don’t get me started on it, it’ll take you around 30 minutes to get there. In a world where people know how to drive, aka EAST COAST, it should only take about 20 minutes.
So I’m already pissed that I can’t bring this in on the weekends but now I’m stuck in traffic to try and get there on my lunch break where I should be relaxing and enjoying a fucking sandwich someplace. I get there and the place is filled with the aroma of freshly smoked weed. I’m greeted with, Hey Man, are you the one that just called Bro? Yep, that’s me.
A couple of weeks ago I’m camping in Aspen and my dog gets cold so I wrap him in my down jacket. Problem solved. I awake to a tiny, less than the width of my pinky finger tear in my jacket. No problem, I’ll get it patched.
So they take my jacket, look at it with the confidence that only a stoner can muster and screeches, ‘I can totally patch this.’ fantastic.
After a single try, she hands it to me all proud with her bloodshot eyes and I look at it. Yeah, that’s not fixed. So she sticks another patch on top of the patch that didn’t stick as if somehow both patches would combine into a super patch. You know how these stoners are. Reheats it. Same proud expression. Another failed attempt. I alert her that this isn’t working. She shrugs and claims she has no idea what to do. I ask her, ‘Isn’t it your job to know what to do?’ ‘She says she thinks the fabric of my jacket is from ‘Outer-​fucking-​space’.
I grabbed my jacket, got back in my car, and was happy that people like that have jobs in this economy. Oh, and get to vote and have children. It’s awesome!

After 12 years at his previous location at 641 S Broadway in Boulder, Ron Simonds has relocated Boulder Mountain Repair to a larger industrial space in eastern Lafayette, CO. The service is as good or better than ever. He repaired a sleeping bag for me (on the spot!) and repaired and cleaned a one-​piece ski suit as well. He has fixed several items for us over the past decade. Ron is an honest businessman and his pricing is fair, but don’t expect deep discounts. You are paying for his time, so expect the repairs to be adequate but possibly not cosmetically perfect. I would recommend this for serious outdoors people who want to keep their gear in service; I would not recommend this for ski bunnies who are trying to fix a cosmetic tear in their pretty ski jacket.
Their new location is 1224 Commerce Ct, #7 in Lafayette, CO. Directions from Boulder: take Baseline east all the way through Lafayette. Continue out of town past the old feed store on the right, and go another ¼ mile; turn right onto 120^th St (which is marked 119^th St). Cross old RR tracks twice, then turn right onto Commerce Ct and immediately left into the first building. Boulder Mountain Repair is the leftmost unit, #7.
