2012 Review #297: No idea why but searching for«Evol. Burritos» yields no results on Unilocal, despite them having a business page. Weird. Anyway, Evol is a semi-collaboration with Phil, of Phil’s Fresh Foods. It’s another food product that I didn’t realize was from Boulder, but, of course it’s from Boulder, when you think about it. Although Evol now seems to make everything from burritos to heat-and-eat meals, to pizza, etc., I’ve only tried the burritos. The only ones I buy are the snack sized burritos. They’re cute, tiny, $ 1 – 2, and around 150 calories. They’re the perfect snack or a nice component for lunch. I don’t really like having just one big item for lunch, so instead of having a big, heavy, 400 calorie burrito, I really like having a smaller one and having more variety. My only complaint is sometimes the little burritos can unfurl in the microwave, but it’s easy to correct. The flavors I’ve had have all been not overly salty, but also adequately seasoned. The ones that include more than one ingredient(bean and veggie; chicken and rice; etc.) have a nice mix of both, not just the cheaper ingredient, which again I like. If only they made whole wheat burritos, that’d be the icing on the cake for me. I have no idea how widespread the Evol love is(OMG evol is «love» backward) and how distributed they are, but this is definitely one of those products that I’m happy was started locally and happy to see succeed globally.
