I will probably have to update my review after going again for another try. We went on a weekday around 4 and they ran out of everything besides brisket. So that’s what I ended up getting of course. It was decent but nothing extraordinary about it. I like how the owners are so involved in the business. They walked around to a few tables to talk to the patrons there. I will have to explore a little more of their menu for a better review.

Excellent family owned BBQ shop, I had the two meat combo and it was great, highly recommend. One of the best.

Thanks to Unilocal,I’ve found my new favorite BBQ place. The brisket is great. The turkey is some of the best smoked turkey tasted. The baked beans were amazing like a Steph Curry half court shot at the buzzer. As Arnold would say, «I’ll be back». Their brick oven BBQ pizza looks great!

OK so here’s the deal: I’m pretty much a barbecue expert. I smoke my own meat(BBQ meat you sickos), I fly out to Kansas City 3 to 4 times a year and partake in all their wonderful barbecue they have out there. I’ve been to the top places in Texas and consumed of the smoky goodness thereof. Just so you know who you’re dealing with ok? That being said smokin bones is as good a barbecue you will find in the great beehive State. Their menu is unique. Their staff is super friendly. And you never leave here hungry because you gets lots of food. My favorite item on the menu is the brisket Navajo taco. What’s that you say? Yes a Navajo taco I said. Just like it sounds a fried scone top of beans, cheese, tender savory brisket, and a perfect barbecue sauce. When Jesus eats barbecue in heaven he probably has this Navajo taco. Though I cannot confirm that fact. One thing is for sure he’s not eating funeral potatoes. He’s had more than his fair share of those. Who still makes those anyway? Now is this place as good as some of the legendary places in Kansas City? Come on now don’t be crazy but if you’re in Utah and you want some good Que you cant go wrong here.

Pretty good, considering the options for decent barbecue in the area(which is nil).

I was very happy after eating here. I sooo tecommend giving this joint a try. I’ve been craving some real bbq for awhile but haven’t been close to any decent spots. I got the two meat combo with the short ribs, brisket and theb two sides of potato salad and cornbread. The short ribs were pretty amazing. Falling off the bone tender, seasoned well, and not overly fatty. If it’s your first time, this is a great starting point. The brisket was cooked great. Extremely tender, like the ribs, and it had a great crust. The brisket was truly some of the best that I’ve had compared to other restaurants. The potatoe salad was a little boring. There ingredients were freshers than most I’ve had, it just didn’t have much taste. They put a seasoning salt on top, which helped. I would probably have loved it if the salt was mixed in to begin with. Last, the cornbread was quite excellent. It’s hard to make cornbread more than just corn bread, but I really enjoyed their take on it. It’s a little pricey for myself for a plate of food, but I’m sure it’s pretty on point for what you get. I will definitely come back.

We LOVE this place! I especially love the sides, amazing corn bread, baked beans & potato salad. I usually share a plate with my husband because it’s so much food.

I’ve eaten here a dozen times. You pay a bit more for the quality, and it is money well spent. The Smokin Bones brisket has never been anything less than than melt-in-your-mouth succulent, the ribs and pulled pork very good, the sides fresh, homemade, and true to BBQ style. This would be great BBQ anywhere in the country. In Bountiful, Utah, it’s something of a miracle — probably the best restaurant, dollar for dollar, in Davis County.

So happy we heard about this place, my husband and I love BBQ. The portions are pretty big and the meat was tender and delicious. We were definitely satisfied and the man helping us was very nice. We’ll be back the next time we want BBQ, so far it’s the best we’ve had in Salt Lake.

Great food I love almost everything on the menu from the beans to the brisket you would be hard-pressed to find something on the menu that you don’t like. Great prices and quality and great people. Get there early before they run out!

Food was good, but the environment leaves much to be desired. They had music playing, while an aspiring artist was performing, and the TV wasn’t working. It was all over the place and a lot of the food ran out early in the evening. Again, the people were nice and the food was good, but that experience will keep me from going back.

Went here today with friends and their new baby girl. This is my 3rd time and they knocked it out of the park. I had the 3 meat plate, ribs that were moist and flavorful, pulled pork that was a generous serving and very good, turkey was smokey and moist. The coleslaw was in the top five I’ve ever had and potato salad better than most. Fresh homemade lemonade. My only complaint is I hate the styrofoam and plastic silverware. I get it COST The owner ate friendly and caring. Came up and wanted to know about my friends baby as they are visiting their new grandkid in CT.

Okay, okay I know I keep going back and forth with the stars, but I have to stick to my guns on the original review, I regretfully let peer pressure sway a star away. Please see the updated review just before this for some great constructive feedback about the place, but the more and more I go, the more I think that those who don’t like or appreciate Smokin Bones, either just chose the wrong thing(you cant judge a BBQ place by getting a Pizza or Cheeseburger, even if those things are delicious), or you just do not know your BBQ basics. People have a lot of misconceptions about BBQ, and perhaps Utahan’s have got in their heads the overly sauced, and overly seasoned crap you find at chain restaurants is good BBQ. There is a «5BBQ Myths» post you can find through Google that explains how I feel about miss-judged BBQ. Not only was my recent visit to Smoking bones on which I orders 3 meat with Ribs, Brisket and Pork, with a side of Beans and Cream Corn, the best BBQ I think I have ever had, but it was also almost completely consistent with my experiences at SB. The Brisket was fresh and tender, not over seasoned and really just a delight. The pork was amazing and juicy and tasted like pork, not like a rub or sauce that was overly smothered on, and the ribs had the perfect bite, held to the bone until your teeth gently pull it away! The main reason I have gone back to 5 stars is that these guys LETTHEMEATDOTHETALKING, the quality meat is the star here, they don’t use heavy rubs or seasonings, the beef tastes like beef, the pork tastes like pork and so on! That is the ART or true BBQ no secret recipes, no covert processes. You take an often less desirable cut of meat and turn it into something beautiful and delicious. Smoke is the main seasoning, so if you prefer a heavy crusted rub, go somewhere else. I consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, I have been grilling and smoking meat my whole life, and I know a thing or two about BBQ across the whole country, and I also hate it when people say«good BBQ for Utah»! one of my biggest peeves! you don’t need to be in Kansas City, or Dallas to get great BBQ, BBQ is an art that anyone can master anywhere.

Being from Kansas City, we’ve been challenged to find consistently«great» BBQ in the Salt Lake area. My friend MaryLyn, introduced me to this place 6 months ago and I can honestly say, hands down, the best is at Smokin Bones. Don’t let the location or ambiance fool you, this place is serving up seriously delicious food. Overall it’s like going to your grandma’s for dinner. There’s a roll of paper towels on the table, she might ask you to move a piece of furniture and you’re slightly afraid of her, But you don’t care, because Grandma is a genius at rubbing a pork butt. I’m not typically a huge meat eater, but this place makes me feel like a T-Rex. The pork is melt in your mouth and my boys love the turkey. We were there recently on a Friday night and they had a great guitar player entertaining. One more tip —- Get there early, when they’re out of something, they are out. Enjoy and you can thank me later.

I stopped by here with my friend this past weekend. Neither of us had been here before. It was close to closing time and I guess they run out of certain meats. We asked what was available and the gentleman behind the counter proceeded to tell us. He then gave us q couple samples so we could try before we ordered. I tried the brisket, pork and turkey. Ultimately I went with the brisket and turkey. Both delicious and extremely moist. My friend and I decided to share because we weren’t starving. The portions were quite big and we we glad we shared. We also got 2 sides. We chose potato salad and corn bread. The potato salad was very flavorful and good. The cornbread was good but could have used more honey butter(this is just my personal preference) Their BBQ sauce was really good! I’m not a huge BBQ fan so I wouldn’t call myself an expert or snob but we both liked this and would certainly come back. **A couple things to mention. Their parking lot is quite small and they close at 8:00 pm.

My wife and I have been driving past this place for about 5 months and had not had a chance to stop in, finally we had time yesterday. She ordered a 2 meat combo and I had ribs! Holy damn this was one fine bbq! The price was fair for the amount of food, the owner was there cuttin the meat with his daughter(which is always something I love to see) They were very friendly. my kids had their pigs’n’blankets which were awesome. We liked it so much we went back again today to try the Navaho tacos. They are HUGE, we will be eating in these delicious masterpieces for a couple of days. If you get a chance and want so great locally owned BBQ I would highly recommend the folks at Smokin Bones! Thank you guys we will be back!

I have been here many times now. I have tried the ribs, brisket, pulled pork and Navajo taco. All are top notch. Many other reviews have detailed the contents of the awesome and large Navajo taco, but the ribs are probably my favorite. The half rack is larger than most places. Most places trim off the ‘spare ribs’ and cut a 13 bone rack down to about 8 or 10, and sell the ‘spare ribs’ separately. Not here… you get a full half rack… typically 6 or 7 bones, and they are very meaty and delicious, and very well priced. Their ingredients are fresh, and home made, and it shows and tastes as such. Their coleslaw is fresh cut the day of, and their baked beans are some of the best ever. I also love their creamed corn(unique for Utah), and their cornbread is good as well. They just installed one of those new touch screen soda machines and they have homemade lemonade and tea as well. I really love their homemade lemonade. All that being said, the main attraction is the meat… they have the seasoning and smoking down… Smokin Bones can rate with the best no matter where it would be, but for Utah it definitely stands out as one of the best(My personal favorite of all the BBQ places I have tried in Utah). They use a mix of woods when they smoke their meet, most of which I would imagine are shipped in from elsewhere to get the right smoke flavor. Then, their BBQ sauce is awesome and a great addition to their meat. When you order, they cut the meat right in front of you… so your brisket is whole until you order it, which I imagine keeps it from drying out and you know it is fresh. The staff is super friendly. The owner is very proud of the business and the food and is a joy to be around, as he jokes, and is open to answer questions about how the meat is cooked, their history and just about whatever. There are a couple downfalls of this facility to keep in mind, but none of which I noted as being such a big deal to dock a star… just some things to keep in mind… 1. Their parking is very limited. Carpool instead of meeting people here, please. You may have to park on the street. 2. They have limited seating. Try to get there early, or at least try to avoid prime time. 3. Their hours are limited, as they close at 8PM in the evenings and are closed on Sunday(Standard for Utah) and Monday.

Pretty good pulled pork, especially on time of a butger patty topped with bbq sauce. Utah you get a big thumbs up from this Texan! When am back in this part of Utah I will for sure stop by again. Thanks

I was looking at quite a few different things on the menu, but was intrigued by the Navajo Taco. I hadn’t seen anyone in the restaurant with it, nor did I see anyone in line in front of me get it. ITISMASSIVE! It takes up almost the entire to-go container, but the taste is great. It is definitely a two meal order because of how dense it is; the baked beans, the smoked brisket, gooey mozzarella cheese, and the delicious fry bread. I also was able to try the turkey, which was equally great. Very moist and great flavor, would highly recommend it to anyone in search of good portions of delicious barbecue. The parking lot is a bit small, and I did have to park on the street. Not a deal breaker by any means, but just be aware.

My wife and I won’t go anywhere else for bbq. I like this place so much better than dickeys or Dave’s or any other popular chain options. The meats are all smoked and incredibly tender and delicious. They’re house bbq sauces are refreshingly unique and awesome. I love the service. The owner visits every table to introduce himself and bring you anything you may still need. I also love the hole in the wall atmosphere. Just more comfortable than all the noise and showmanship of chain restaurants. It’s much more like eating at home. Thanks for a consistently great experience guys.
