I highly recommend Sophia for naturals! My hair is natural and a family member recommended I go to her after a couple bad experiences with other stylists in the area. I went to Sophia to get my hair washed, conditioned and straightened, and it came out amazing! Silky, shiny, smooth, flowy, everything!(Not sure why other natural stylists can’t seem to achieve this. My hair always just looked blowdried when other stylists straightened and is never flowy at all.) Also, she was extremely gentle when combing and manipulating my hair. Her prices seem very reasonable since she didn’t charge an arm and a leg for being natural. The salon she’s located in is a barbershop on one side and then a small beauty salon on the other side with 3 stylists. It’s not the upscale environment you may get other places, but the quality and cost of service you get here are much better!

My man & I both have locs that needed to be maintenance and I wanted a style. I stumbled upon this shop by way of Unilocal looking for a stylist that could do loc’s. I have seen this shop many of times driving past it going to my cardio kickboxing class up the street, but never really stopped because I just thought it was a barber shop. Little did I know that a stylist named Monae worked here. As the other review from 2013 said she does a excellent job smd that she does. She now charges about $ 60 for a regular maintenance(wash & retwist) and the price for a style depends on the type. She didn’t ask me how long our loc’s were like some people in this area do, when actually all you are retwisting is the root of the hair and palm rolling the rest. This made my man even more comfortable to go to her since his loc’s are longer than mine. For the gentleman reading this review my man was also able to get lined/shape up($ 10) by one of the barbers out of the three that were working at the time and I was able to get my nape area cleaned up as well. This shop is open 7 days a week, which is a plus for my man & I. Needless to say I think we have found a permanent barber & loctician that is closer to our home. Yeppie.

This review is more for one stylist as opposed to the whole salon. But anyway, the salon is barbershop/hair salon hence the name. It’s separated down the middle with barbers on one side, stylists on the other. From what I noticed, it’s clean and it can get a little loud sometimes with TVs and music and talking. There’s also a snack machine. My stylist is Monae. She does locs and color mostly from what I’ve seen. But long story short, I love her. She’s quick and she does a good job whether it’s just regular maintenance, color touch-up, or adding styles. For the first time, I can go more than 2 weeks without needing a retwist. I usually do that anyway, but now my hair doesn’t look crazy in between visits. There’s usually not a long wait when I go in. She’s also cheaper than most people. Just a regular maintenance will run you about 50 dollars. And a color touch-up and maintenance cost me less than a 100 dollars. So I’m willing to travel to Bowie once a month for such a good deal. I always think I’ve found the loctician I will stay with but there’s always something that makes them a little inconvenient. But I think I’ve found a permanent stylist.
