I needed a cake for a birthday dinner and waited until the last minute. Checked Unilocal and saw good reviews for this place close to home! I was delighted when I came here a saw that cakes were available in the display counter. I bought a white cake with buttercream icing. The baker insured me that it was fresh. After the dinner we had the waiter bring the cake out, with candles and all. I proceeded to cut the cake and noticed that it was tough. Handed out slices to my fellow diners. After one bite, everyone’s faces turned sour! The icing had a stale milk taste and the cake cornbreadish. Needless to say the birthday girl was not happy and I was so embarrassed. I put the uneaten cake in my trunk, planned on calling the bakery and asking for a refund, but never got around to it. The one star is for the baker, owner who was nice.

Always delicious! We’ve gotten their cakes for birthdays and special events for years. No issues ever.

I have become a huge fan of this bakery! The chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse, and buttercream frosting are to die for. I ordered several cakes for my husband’s retirement party. The cakes were moist and delicious. Rich flavor with just the right sweetness.(I don’t like sugary sweet cake.) Even though they don’t do fondue, they do a great job with design. I was more interested in flavor than fondue. I was pleased with the design. In addition to the quality of the food, the customer service is excellent! The only thing«bad» I can say is that they are too far away from me, but anytime I’m in the area this is a must stop.

I recently had the Cakery make a chocolate ganache cake for my wife’s 50th birthday celebration. The manager personally told me that the cake would be great as always and he was right! Everyone loved it and I appreciated the service and the yummy end product. It was an amazing value overall. Thanks again!

I had to book a last minute cake for my husband’s birthday and found The Cakery on Unilocal.I was so skeptical, I was taking a big risk, but I didn’t have much choice, so I went for it. I showed the man who attended to me a picture of a similar cake I’d like. I came by the next day to pick up the cake and I was beyond impressed with the cake design. Now, I couldn’t wait to taste the cake. I ordered a marble cake with vanilla buttercream. We just celebrated my husband’s birthday, and it was the best tasting Cake we’ve ever had! Everyone loved it, and I thought I owed this business my review. Thanks Cakery for the beautiful and yummy cake. We’ll be back :)

The staff was very helpful, friendly and professional and did a great job with an Elmo cake for my son’s 1st birthday! Have been back a couple times since for their desserts and breakfast pastries. Would have gone there a long time ago if we had known it was hidden in the back of the shopping center!

I had an excellent experience with The Cakery. I ordered a a quarter sheet for my son’s 5th birthday party. First, the woman I spoke with on the phone(I *think* it was Gail, one of the owners) was SO pleasant. Like old-school, customer service pleasant that seems to be missing from most businesses these days. I had no idea on a design — I told them I would bring in an airplane, and they could do whatever else they wanted. It was gorgeous, the top was sky blue with a sun, clouds and smoke trails from the plane(perfect for someone that was 5) — and delicious! It was a yellow cake with vanilla bean filling and vanilla buttercream. The cake was so dense and moist and the icing was great(good texture, good flavor and not too sweet). In addition to the cake I ordered, I picked up a cake on the actual day of my son’s birthday which was yellow cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. That was excellent as well. The shop *is* older, but it has been there for years. It was clean and neat, and it smelled like HEAVEN! It took every bit of willpower I had not to purchase anything else.

I stopped in for an office friend’s birthday cake since she is very particular on flavors. i was greeted promptly and ordering took just a few minutes. Cake pick-up was smooth & timely. The final product was gorgeous! the entire office still raves about that cake. My friend was thrilled to have her favorite flavored cake.

Sometimes the best finds are off the beaten path; The Cakery falls into this category. It’s located on the back side of the Olive Grove. I purchased 4 vanilla on vanilla cupcakes, a huge snickerdoodle cookie, & a piece of gingerbread. Cupcakes: delicate, not too sweet, great balance of texture, nice proportion of icing: cake Snickerdoodle: very light taste that reminds me of girl scout short bread cookies, with just enough mix of their sweet ingredients Gingerbread: TTA(taste test approved!!) Prices: BEYONDREASONABLE! The woman was very welcoming, let me know about their different flavors(some are not always available due to season/need, and it’s best to pre-order) & their most popular flavors. I encourage you to patron The Cakery; you won’t be disappointed.

They never answer the phone, so you may have to drive there and place your order, but let me tell ya: totally worth it. My husband requested we get his birthday cake here after trying a cake from this bakery at a friend’s place. We went with a buttercream frosting and cream cheese filler layer and yellow cake. BOY! I should have gotten a bigger cake because it was utterly demolished in about 30 seconds flat. It’s the first time my family has come back for seconds IMMEDIATELY after taking a bite. The cake cost $ 32 — a little steep, but worth every penny. Check-in on your Unilocal app when you arrive and get a cookie on the spot. Nice little bonus to cure your sweet tooth immediately.

This is an old-school family-owned bakery in middle of nowhere Bowie. When you go in the décor is a little dated and the shop is small but the pastries, cakes and cheesecakes on display will sway your opinion to stay and try something sweet. When we went in we bought a chocolate filled pastry and an apple turnover. Both were equally good but probably would have been better if we had come earlier in the day.

I am surprised this bakery has such a high rating. When you first walk in the door, you can tell the place is very run down. It didn’t feel like a place that was taken care of and it shows. The décor is old. It just gives off the vibe that it is uninviting. Maybe I’m being a little too harsh because it is located in an older section of Hilltop Plaza, but I feel like that is just an excuse. I went to this bakery hoping to buy cupcakes. The lady was polite and informed me that they don’t have cupcakes, and suggested different confections for me to get to satisfy my chocolate craving. I settled on a piece of chocolate cake, which the lady assured me would get rid of any chocolate cravings I had. My boyfriend got peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, as well as a cheese danish. When we got home, I couldn’t wait to dive into the chocolate cake. When I stuck my fork in it, I was really disappointed. The frosting literally flaked off. It wasn’t a good consistency at all. Frosting should be creamy and not set. It tasted old. The cake itself was dry. Surprisingly, the cake was advertised as chocolate but it had absolutely no chocolate flavor. In fact, it had no flavor at all. It tasted like it had been sitting in the case for weeks. No one on my house liked it. It ended up going in the trash — a total waste of money. The chocolate chip cookie was very hard. It was too hard to get any flavor out of. The peanut butter cookie was somewhat softer, and at least it had a little peanut butter flavor. The cheese danish was absolutely delicious. Very moist, very flavorful. It was the only real flavored dessert we got from there. I can’t speak on ordering a cake because I never have. Based on my experience with their chocolate cake, I never will.

This bakery has a little bit of everything and is a whole lot delicious! Every time I’m in Bowie I’ve got to make a pit stop at The Cakery. It’s a cute family owned bakery that has everything from breakfast pastries to desserts to wedding cakes. It’s hard to pick a favorite treat because I always end up wanting one of everything each time I walk in! I do have a sweet spot for their sticky buns and danishes, although I must admit I recently tried the turkey and cheese croissant sandwich and it literally melted in my mouth! It’s friendly atmosphere is another plus and one of the many reasons I keep coming back. It’s definitely worth checking out, the smells alone when you walk through those doors are enough to make anyone want to return!

I have used this bakery several times in the past because they are the only location in suburban Maryland to get a decent king cake. This time, I decided to venture out and get my son’s 3rd birthday cake there. The person to whom I spoke on the phone suggested a few appropriate themes, and we decided on Thomas. I was blown away when I saw the cake. The whole surface had been transformed into Sodor, with a mountain and a bridge and train tracks and two toys trains that could be removed and played with. And the cake was delicious! Leaps and bounds better than Cakes Plus, which we have use for our other kids’ parties. The cost was a little pricey, but it was so, so worth it. My son’s face lit up and never stopped shining once he saw that cake.

This place is alright for one of the cute little bakeries in the area. It’s very small, which is ok, and the décor leaves something to be desired as it just seems cluttered with its small size. The girl that helped up was ok, not overly friendly but not rude either. The shortbread cookies are fantastic, though! Some of the best cookies I’ve had in a long time. I also got a few rum balls, which were equally as great in quality. I’ve been to quite a few small pastry shops like this in the area, and while this isn’t the best one in my opinion, I’d still recommend a visit!

I’ve been coming here since it first opened more than 15 years ago and it’s a personal favorite! It’s a small family-run place, so you don’t always know what you can get(but they do take requests!) But it doesn’t really matter(can’t name it all), I love it almost everything they bake(though I have favorites) Sometimes I wish I could have this bakery as my own private secret, but everyone in my town should and probably does know about it. Life would be much sadder without the Cakery!

What can I say about this place except… WOW! We had purchased our wedding cake at The Cakery 3 years ago and I have ordered every cake since here including a wedding cake for my sister’s wedding today. Amazing 3 layer yellow cake with Chocolate Ganache. The butter cream frosting is so good but not overly sweet which gives the cake a great balance allowing you to taste all of the layers. Every time I supply a cake for an event I have at least 5 people ask me where I purchased the cake and I know that this place will stay in business for many years to come just through word of mouth. The owners Gail and Greg are so accommodating and helpful… Each experience I have with them seems flawless. Amazingly enough the quality they supply here is fairly inexpensive. Their customer service and the cake quality would cost 3 times as much elsewhere, but the small shop feel must keep costs down. I highly recommend them and as much as I love the cakes here, you have to also try their pastries.

I found this bakery when purchasing a cake for a friend’s birthday. The day I ordered the cake, I picked up an almond croissant that was über good. I took me back to my a childhood to a french bakery in Federal DC(umm & yeah). I also bought an almond bundt cake, which was just as good. I also bought a cupcake for my husband, which he said was just«OK». When I picked up the cake, we bought a cheesecake for dinner and some chocolate rum balls. Just so you know, if you purchase anything after like 2 pm, it’s half off. Anyway, cheesecake was good, and more cake than cheese(if you can feel what I’m saying: heavy, thick). But the balls were awful. The birthday cake was good too. The icing was very buttery and the cake was light. The birthday girl enjoyed it. That was the most important thing.

I absolutely love the cakery… Warning, dont EVER go there too hungry!!! Everything looks amazing and tastes just as good! They did a Green Bay Packers cake for our Super Bowl party. It looked great and tasted even better! We have had their Chcolate Croissants, Almond Croissants, breakfast danishes, muffins, and numerous slices of cake… Never had anything we didnt think was great! Keep up the good work Cakery, cause you are a gem in Bowie!!!

This bakery is definitely one of Bowie, Maryland’s hidden jewels. It’s a small bakery run by a husband and wife, and it is located in the back of the strip mall(Hill Top Plaza). I love going to this bakery on Friday morning because they serve cheddar bacon biscuits that day. And, they are sooo very good. My other favorites are the chocolate croissants, coconut and chocolate dipped macaroons, and the chocolate opera bars. If you want more than a dozen croissants, you better order them in advance. And, I recommend going first thing in the morning because they sell out of their cookies and pastries by lunch time.
