Awesome sandwiches and wraps and even better desserts! It’s either super crowded or your the only person there… guess it depends on what time you go. Staff always acts like your a regular even when they’ve never met you before. Not sure what people have against the décor and weird bathroom location. Neither bothered me at all. Go for the food, not the décor! Oh, and they take credit cards now, which is a plus.

As noted in other reviews, the décor is off kilter with the menu, which I discovered is actually name for the title f a book(by a local author). So… décor forgiven. :-) I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the sandwiches on the menu. All very good.

Amazing! I get to travel a lot for work and use my Unilocal app to find good and unique places to stop and eat. This place definitely delivered! I will make a point to swing by the area again. I had the maverick sandwich and my co-worker had the daisy. We were smart enough to order dessert. The peanut butter pie and coffee were great. Service was very friendly as well. Eat here!

A southwestern motif with NY deli quality sandwiches. A must stop for parents looking to take their BG students out to lunch. A vast array of great sandwich choices… The décor seemed to be made up random southwestern-ish items. They could get to 4 star easily with a little upgrade to the overall dining experience. Loved it though!

Exploring Bowling Green restaurants alphabetically, a couple of friends and I went to Call of the Canyon Café for lunch. We arrived just after noon, and the restaurant was packed! Selecting one of the two open tables, we had a seat and were soon approached by one of the hard-pressed waitresses. After ordering a round of waters, we proceeded to look over the menu. As one might expect in a very busy establishment, it took the waitress a few minutes to get back to us. With my ice water in hand, I ordered the daily special of the grilled cheese with bacon, and a piece of the lemony snicket pie. With tax, my bill came to $ 12.01, which is pretty typical for a sandwich and piece of pie in BG. Décor in the restaurant was ‘South Western’ but without any Country & Western kitsch. Instead the café had tasteful pictures and prints festooned on the walls showing beautiful views of the Grand Canyon and deserts of the American Southwest, as well as quotes from Muir and others. The tables were spaced rather closely together, however rather than make it seem cramped, it added to the restaurant’s cozy feel. The wait for our food was pretty typical for a busy lunch time, so once it finally arrived, we immediately began to devour our orders. My super grilled cheese was expertly toasted, with the various cheese types deliciously gooey and melted on the inside, while the outside of the sandwich had the perfect amount of crunch to it. Likewise I found the bacon to be perfectly cooked, and really a great addition to the sandwich. The side of chips and salsa which came with my sandwich were average and nothing to write home about. However saving the best for last, the lemony snicket pie was fantastic! The crust had that homemade taste and consistency like what grandma made when I was a kid, and the lemony snicket filling was rich, creamy, and lemony all at once! My only quibble was that another refill of ice water would have been nice to go along with the generous serving size of pie, but the waitress was understandably harried. For good food, a unique atmosphere, nicely sized portions, and fantastic desserts, I rate Call of the Canyon café as being Very Good, and will definitely be back!

We were the only people in the restaurant. In their defense it was 4pm on a Tuesday. The food was really good, vegetarian options were clearly marked but limited. Overall the food was good and worth the trip. The bathrooms were a bit akward to fine… back by the kitchen. It was a bit odd to walk into the kitchen to access them.

Very average sandwich shop. Veggie chili tasted too much like tomato paste. I did enjoy the fresh bread, but the guacamole did not taste homemade like I expected, especially given it was on several of their sandwiches.

Amazing! I had only about 20 mins to eat and get something to go and the staff was very accommodating. On top of that the food was fantastic, I’m still dreaming about my delicious club :-)

I had a great lunch at this cute place on a business trip. Main Street in BG looks like something out of a movie set portraying a typical Midwestern downtown from about 50 years ago, which is a good thing in my book, and Call of the Canyon is straight out of Central Casting. The ladies who served me were super-friendly and made me feel welcome, and the food is homey. I had a seasonal salad featuring Honeycrisp apples; the only change I would have made would be to upgrade the iceberg lettuce to a different green, but overall it was tasty. My neighbors’ sandwiches looked good, too, and I passed on dessert but probably should not have. Someone’s aunt or grandma was likely in the back making the pies.

Call of the Canyon is absolutely fantastic! The sandwiches are delicious and always made with fresh ingredients, the burritos are enormous, and the cornbread is amazing! The selections of pie are also incredible. Really all the food is great and the service is always top notch as well. Overall, this is a must stop restaurant in Bowling Green.

Amazing sandwiches, fresh baked goods, great service, cute shop, what’s not to like. Their egg salad sandwich is the best I’ve ever had, I wish I knew what the heck they did with it. Was always one of my favorite place to come while attending BGSU, can wait to come back when we visit later this year.

This is a MUST when looking for a place to lunch! Prices are low, the food is delicious, and the staff is super friendly. We ordered two specials: 1) Grilled Cheese with crispy bacon and fresh tomato on tomato-basil bread, and 2) Roast Beef Rubin on mild pumpernickel. We both ordered platters which were an addition $ 2.25 for either dill-flavored potato salad or creamy coleslaw PLUS a generous cup of soup or cowboy beans. We HAD to swing for a piece of creamy, fluffy peanut butter pie which I highly recommend! We definitely plan to come back!

I am torn about writing a good review because I want to keep Call of the Canyon a best kept secret in Bowling Green!!! The food is fantastic, the service is caring and desserts can’t be beat. The restaurant is not large but it is very cozy. The menu truly has something for everyone. The sandwiches and entrees all have a little twist to them but not so much that they seen strange.

if you’re willing to spend a little bit more on lunch I can’t recommend Call of the Canyon enough. Yes, it’s cash only. everything on the menu will satisfy without giving you the«why did i eat that?» bloat of fast food. The combinations of flavors they cooked up for their sandwiches are out of this world & the bread choices are hard to beat. Plus, DESSERTS! save room for some home made cakes & pies

Context: lunch on Friday for six — cash only Atmosphere: small, local café with oil cloth tablecloths, banquet and table seating, little plants in the windows and table service. Service: service is prompt and efficient but not particularly friendly. They get the job done. Food: we tried a variety of things, a Reuben sandwich, a bean soup, a veggie wrap, peanut butter and cherry pie. Good meat on the Reuben but drowning in mayonnaise and I mean drowning. If I went back I’d ask for no mayo, the coleslaw was enough. Only a small amount of cheese but I prefer that. Wrap was good and could be veggie or vegan. Soup was pretty good, homemade, light but just not very flavorful. Simple. Cherry pie was okay. The best thing and the thing I’d travel miles for is the peanut butter pie. It’s not a cream cheese base so its incredibly rich. If I had to guess, I’d guess its made with whipping cream probably cool whip, which is also served on top. It’s huge and we shared one piece. Very dense, creamy and peanutty. Desserts are made in house and the crust was light and flaky.

If you’re Vegan, or Vegetarian, you might try Call of the Canyon Café. Home cooked food that is fabulous, Great selection of salads. Some vegan choices if you look for them. Nice pleasant service, we were really glad to find a locally owned resturant that does it right.

This is one of my favorite all time restaurants. The food is dynamic yet at the same time simple and home like. There sandwiches are served on locally made bread, and range from sourdough, to rye and pumpernickel. They also have a great range of cheeses on these sandwiches, which makes them a delight. However, if you are not the sandwich type they have a great selection of salads, and even burritos. And if you have room for dessert, I wouldn’t skip it here! The cheesecakes are to die for. Not to mention the place has great service and the owner is friendly and cheerful. This is the place I eat whenever I am in town!
