I had been to Grain Train health food store in Petoskey, where everything’s organic. This winter I noticed a new location when we’d swing through Boyne City. Last night we stopped. It was 8:02 pm. They had just locked the door but they let us in when they saw us. So nice of them to stay just a little later for us. There were three people running the small store on a Thursday night. Very friendly and helpful. We could have had the industrial version of everything at Glen’s Market down the road for maybe half the price. Our Glen’s experience is to wander past aisle after aisle of stuff that simply doesn’t interest us. Grain Train is small, but that’s good. Less wandering. It has everything we actually eat. Healthy and organic versions of packaged foods, plus some raw veggies and fruits. Small bulk section. Everything for the ovo-lacto vegetarian, plus vegan, gluten-free, etc. You won’t find meat here. We quickly grabbed the essentials. We even found some chewy sourdough bread. I smiled when my hubby slyly slipped a package of cookies onto the checkout. He’s my cookie eater. :-) Thanks, everyone! We’ll be back! Check out their hours — excellent coverage for a small local store. Closed on holidays, which I think is reasonable. The people who work there gotta have a life, too!
