Stopped in at Yolks and Berries while in town visiting family for the holiday. This place never disappoints. My wife and I had a great breakfast with great service. We live in Chicago and I can’t find an omelet that beats their’s. The owner, Lambros is always there making sure everything is top notch, great guy.

For the area, this place is a hit. There aren’t many other breakfast places around, so not much competition. However even without the added pressure this place seems to do pretty well. The 2 times I was here during my stay in Kankakee I had bacon waffles with eggs, and the eggs benedict. The bacon waffles were my favorite of the two by far. The bacon was still really crispy, and the combination of sweet and savory was perfect! The eggs benedict was just okay. My eggs were a little over done(somewhere between runny and solid) and the hashbrowns didn’t taste very fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. There is also a crowd of locals that seems to hang out here weekday mornings which is always good to see.

Yeah… no. The portions were tiny compared to most other breakfast places. The taste was severely lacking. The service was almost nonexistent.

One of the most attentive places in town when it comes to good service. I’ve been here many times for breakfast and a few times for lunch and never disappointed. The food is always hot and fresh and they always prepare it quick. Love stopping in when I’m really really hungry, knowing it won’t be long before I’m eating! Amazing omelettes. Good coffee is a plus!

I’ve dined here several times and have always had a good experience. The service is fast and the dining area clean and pleasant. I’ve had a skillet, pancakes, French toast and many other dishes and enjoyed them all! This is by far our favorite breakfast spot in town.

UPDATEDREVIEW: Lunch kinks are worked out, although I am admittedly primarily a breakfast diner there. There really aren’t enough good things to say about both the food and the service. The omeletes, skillets, and pancakes are all first rate. And unlike the rivals, they still have the Greek toast I crave. Even on busy days, the staff finds a way to make our meal special. And on weekdays they treat us like royalty. No stars off for the fact that you have to wait for a table on weekends. It is annoying, but I understand why. Good food attracts people! Y&B is probably among the top breakfast places I’ve visited in Illinois. And it’s worthy of your patronage too.

Perfect breakfast place! Lee was our waitress and made great recommendations on the California omelette and country skillet. The cinnamon roll pancakes were out of this world. The omelette was chock full of avocado, bacon, onions and cheese. No skimping on anything! Fast, very friendly service, and nice atmosphere– not loud even though the entire restaurant was almost full. Definitely worth a visit

This building has been around longer than I’ve been alive. But, a midst all the hype about this place I dragged my fancy daughter who ordered hot tea(insert British voice here) and pancakes(which she devoured). The portions are definitely not lacking. But, the food itself could have more flavor beyond salt.(I’m half hispanic so if the flavor doesn’t kick my taste buds to a new millennium then it’s bland lol) I ordered a breakfast skillet that came with biscuits and gravy, and to me it was just alright. I gave hubby the left overs. Now, if you ask him he loved it but his mother perceived water as a seasoning in food when growing up so. yep, I’ll just leave it at that.

This is the best option in the area for breakfast food. A little pricey and inconvenient hours for us college folk at Olivet. But I will wake up early for some stuffed french toast and some hash browns.

We used to come here every weekend, but we haven’t been in since our son was born(the newborn doesn’t enjoy restaurants as much as we do). The waitresses recognized us every time and had my fiances order memorized(I try something new each time). The menu offers a lot to choose from and the food is always good. This may sound odd but– I had stopped ordering omelettes for years bc I always seemed to get a piece of eggshell in mine. Once we started coming here my fiancé convinced me to try them again. Not once has that happened to me here and I order an omelette every single time. You have no idea how happy that makes me! My only complaint is the bussers. While I was pregnant(I couldn’t sit as close to the table anymore) two of the bus boys hit my chair four different times with the dish cart. We asked the waitress to move us to a booth which she was happy to do.

I was fortunate enough to meet with two of my former students and athletes while teaching in central Illinois. I owed them lunch so we figured Yolks and Berries would be a good midpoint. The last time I was in the area was July, when Bears Training Camp was going on. That’s when I thought they had a chance to make the playoffs. As Marc Trestman has shown us, he doesn’t know much about football. If I hear him say«It’s a process…» one more time, I am going to process my head into a wall. Now onto Yolks. Very nice restuarant on 50. In the midst of Coyote Canyon, McDonald’s, Baker’s Square, and other chains, this place has a pretty tacky sign that is hard to miss. Arrived around 1230 and restaurant was empty. Had a nice corner booth. Waters were filled once and coffee was filled occasionally. Our server must’ve thought I wouldn’t tip very well because it was three males(ages 16 – 26). Little did she know this teacher is on Christmas Break(double pay check… is it 1 – 15 yet?). Food orders: HS Kid: Chocolate shake for the kiddo with chocolate chip pancakes and scrambled eggs Over easy College Kid: Over easy eggs with hash browns and sirloin steak Teacher kid: Omelette with pepper, broccoli, mushroom, onion, and cottage cheese and multi grain. Food was pretty good for Exit 315 on I 57. I am hopeful that I can come here when I have Bears optimism again. Man, I hope Cutty is still around! If you’re looking for a small business to support around BEARbannais in July, this is it!

I have been here twice now and definitely plan to go back. The service is pretty good and the food is very good as well. I’ve had an omelet and pancakes both times and was not disappointed in any way. I think you really get your money’s worth and I am crazy full when I leave here. Usually my girlfriend or I brings food home because we cannot eat it all. Overall, so far up here it’s my favorite place to eat breakfast.

I love this place. The staff is always super friendly, it’s a nice atmosphere inside, the price is fair, and it’s just an overall breakfast/brunch experience that you would expect to get. The menu is huge, and I always have a hard time deciding what to get. My only complaint would be that the customers can get a little loud for the space they’re in, but they’re usually the senior citizens, so it still basically contributes to the brunch experience I guess.

I may or may not be a breakfast snob. I love breakfast food and pancakes and eggs and waffles and crepes and I could continue. I will even eat it any time of the day, calling it brunch around noon and brinner in the evening. But Yolks and Berries was mediocre. We were out in Kankakee for camping and decided to stop for breakfast as we headed home. It was a busy Sunday(on labor day weekend). We were seated quickly and had great service. The menu had a ton of options, which was nice but also difficult when you are really hungry. I cannot recall which dishes we ordered and I usually remember these little details. The coffee was okay and we’d stop and give this place another try but we aren’t very local.

Ok. Let me just say this place is much nicer inside now. It was a greasy spoon and then it changed. I was not happy about the Ruben I had here. When you make a Ruben, it has wet kraut as part of it. You put toast down on a plate. You put meat down on that toast. You put kraut on top of the meat and the top slice of bread down. That keeps the wet kraut from destroying the bottom toast. This did not happen for me. I got a severely floppy soggy bottom bread. They wanted to fix it. But I don’t really trust anyone with food I send back. So they brought me a new piece of bread. Un toasted. Kinda funny. Not the experience I wanted to pay ten dollars for. So, I grab my proverbial«berries» to you. I do not really like american food anyway, so I won’t go back here until my family wants to «take me out for my birthday» but it has to be someplace that«everyone» likes.(but me). ^sigh^

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, for sure. I always love having a huge breakfast and then choosing to eat light during the rest of the day. This past Sunday I had worked overnight and not got much sleep. Although I always feel guilty skipping church, I knew that my attention span wasn’t going to be long enough to sit through a 2 hour service, so we decided to hit up the Farmer’s Market and go to breakfast. I never really went to VIPs more than a few times, as it wasn’t really my scene. Now that the owners have remodeled and given it a hipper vibe, I feel that any type of person could come here and enjoy it. The floors are all hardwood and the booths have been touched up to make this look like a more modern version of VIPs. On to the food. Their menu is huge and have way too many choices. I prefer a menu with a few options or else I end up just staring at it for days and days not being able to make a decision. I was between the stuffed biscuits(biscuits stuffed with an egg and some other stuff) and the skillet. I ended up going with a skillet and I’m glad I did. It was so delicious. I can’t remember the name, but it had gravy, pieces of sausage, mushrooms and peppers — with eggs of your choice on top. It was really good and HUGE. I ended up eating half of it and saving it for the next day for breakfast. My husband had the greek omelette and I thought it was better than mine. I love feta though and this had a lot of it! Our waitress was very attentive without being the overly smothering kind that just makes you want to scream«we said we’re okay — LEAVEUSALONE.» She showed up enough to let us know that she was there to help and let us enjoy our food. The only real complaint was that their OJ was way overpriced. I ordered a large for $ 3.00 and some change and it was the smallest glass I’ve ever seen. I’d stick with just water next time. I really liked this place and am glad to see such a great local business. This will definitely be my go-to breakfast spot as I happily kick IHOP to the curb.
