Great, professional, caring service every time. I’ve been a customer for over 11 years. I appreciate the attention to the pets and the pet owners. Decisions are made on a team basis with comprehensive information from the doctors and staff and respect for the pet owners circumstances. Susan, the best vet tech ever, is back! I won’t take my animals anywhere else.

Great experience here. Feared the worst when I brought Bella (min pin) in. Diabetes is not to be taken lightly and we now have our little dog with said condition-​disease.
Wish it were different but this office and veterinarian will get all my business.

The Wheaton way veterinary clinic has managed my animals care for about 6 years. I found them on a whim. My black lab that I loved, Millie, was on her last leg. The vet we were taking her to could not figure out what was going on. Millie kept diminishing and diminishing to the point she could no longer walk or eat. My plan was to have her put to sleep but I wanted to give her one last chance. I opened up the yellow pages and told myself that the first vet I turn to is where I’m going to take her. It was Wheaton Way Veterinary Clinic. I remember thinking I don’t even know where that is and I’ve lived in this area my whole life. When I found it I realized why it is tucked just off Wheaton way. I carried Millie through the door and within 5 minutes I met Dave who is the owner of the vet clinic. I remember thinking that this guy was pretty young which left me slightly skeptical. We chatted for about 5 minutes and I told him that I was going to have her put down if there was not anything he could do for her. He gave her a hand over hand inspection and diagnosed her. She had cancer in her spleen. I was pretty skeptical because my other vet had seen her 4 – 5 times and done blood work, x rays, etc. with no diagnosis. If I remember right he did confirm it through imaging. He told me «I can give her 6 more months». 6 months sounds bad. However, when you thought you were going to lose your dog right there it was pretty good. After the surgery she was like a puppy. The next 7 months were high quality.
I was able to spoil her and I spent a lot of time with her. When she started getting sick again I was kind of desperate to extend her life again and I really appreciated the fact that Dave let me know in so many words that, it’s probably time to let her go. I appreciated a professional that has a financial interest in doing more treatment but has ethics so high that he ignored that. Since then Dave has proved himself over and over that he makes calls based on science and not money. To be fair, most veterinarians are great people and Dave is an exceptionally good person. Millie’s last moment was with Dave at my house in the lawn on a sunny day. To my knowledge, this was not even a service he offered but he had also bonded with Millie over her treatment. That sort of care is unique.
Over the past 6 years I and my family have continued to take our animals to Dave and his other wonderful veterinarian Dr. Curan. I am always confident that my animals are in the best hands. It’s nice to know that if they need a surgery he can handle it. As a small business owner I know the importance of reputation. I have learned that putting your reputation out there for anybody is risky and I am very reluctant to do it and there are only a hand full of people that I would do this for. Dave is absolutely one of those people.

Bottom line: The people there do care about pets and they have treated us right. Pets cost money. Sometimes pets can cost a lot of money.
I’ve been taking our two dogs here for routine check ups for the last 3 years. Granted, We’ve never had any major issues with our dogs so I can’t say much about the hospital part, but I’ll give you my experience…
Expectations: If you need something for your pet and it’s new to the place, expect to pay for an examination. Also, you’ll need an examination every 12 months if you want to renew prescriptions. That’s the deal. That’s also the case everywhere else. Being new to pet ownership four years ago, it took me by surprise in the beginning.
The appointment times have been convenient for us (since we both work, having a place that will do routine visits on the weekend is awesome)
The staff has been incredibly friendly and nice. They’ve gone out of the way to scan and email proof of vaccinations, additional receipts, etc. They say what they mean and do what they say. I’m sad that I feel the need to point this out (it should be expected of all professional establishments, but that’s not the point). They do what they say and that means something to me.
The doctor does tend to offer higher end products for your pet and these can be expensive. My opinion is she does this for your pet’s well being. It’s like your doctor telling you that you need to eat better or work out or quit smoking. Should you? yes! Will you? That’s your choice.

I can now describe them as a full service vet hospital… Let me just say, having a sick family member is tough, your emotions will run high, and you be asked to make tough choices.
After 3 weeks of care for our sick dog, I can tell you they don’t recommend treatments, tests, or scans that are not in the interest of care and support. They went beyond any expectation I could have in terms of surgery, diagnostics, and medical boarding to see that our dog had every chance of recovery. It makes it easier to write this review with my dog at my side, but if that wasn’t the case, I’d still have no regrets about choosing Wheaton way.
If you are in the kitsap county, this is the only place for complete care for your dog

Love Dr. Luttinen, he obviously loves his patients and has taken fantastic care of our one cat and five dogs for several years now. We can always count on him to give us options that are practical, he has told us on many occasions his opinion on where our money should be spent on healthcare for our pets, keeping in mind there isn’t a money tree in our backyard. He is truly empathetic with all our animals and us humans too! Thanks to him and his staff (especially Jade)! One of the best things about living here, in a relatively small town, is that we still get to have the highest quality of care from a high credentialed Veterinarian. l

My dog was a patient of this hospital for about 5 years or so. I felt like he always received excellent care, and I was always pleased with the service. When we had to put him down due to cancer, we chose to do it here, and the staff was amazing. they even took an imprint of my dogs paws and gave it to us, unexpectedly… now fast forward about 3 years
i adopted a cat a couple of years ago and had to bring him in due to a urinary blockage. they gave us a couple of different care options. one of which, being an expensive surgery that would have cost over $ 2,000. i did not have that kind of money at the time and when i told the vet this, the entire tone changed. she became very rude and made it a point to instate that «WE MUST RECEIVE PAYMENT IN FULL AT THE TIME OF SERVICE OR THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO, AND WE DO NOT OFFER PAYMENT PLANS. WE MUST HAVE FULL PAYMENT» okay. i never asked for a payment plan or special treatment, i merely stated that the expensive surgery was not a financial possibility. (Mind you, i had a 5+ year history at this clinic and had spent literally THOUSANDS of dollars here when my dog got ill, and ALWAYS paid my bill in full with no problems.) She became very rude and treated me like i was some homeless beggar. she gave my cat fluids to help pass his urinary crystals (injecting him with water, basically) and still charged me $ 350. (yes, for water) no, not kidding. She then prescribed a special cat food that i could only buy there, which was running me over $ 200 a month. I once went in and they gave me the wrong food. I didn’t notice it right away, and had been giving my cat special food for CATS WITH RENAL PROBLEMS. nice, to give a cat with perfectly good kidneys prescription food for kidney problems. I brought the food back in, once i realized it was wrong, and they did give me my money back. I asked them if the food could have done any harm to my pet, I got no response. Not an apology. Nothing. I spoke in depth with another vet, and turns out, the prescription food was not even necessary. My cat just needed a diet with more moisture in it. (wet food. any kind of wet food) i’ve been giving him fancy feast and purina one for over a year now, and he has been completely healthy. why was i spending $ 200 a month on that food? because the vet has a contract with the food company, that’s why.
To say I am disappointed in my experience here is an understatement. Not quite sure how the level of care and compassion here changed so drastically. The vet that treated my cat was a vet i had not dealt with at this office before. I assume she is fairly new to the practice. Well, they may want to reconsider her for the job. I now take my cat to another vet in the area.

Just a week or so after I moved to Bremerton, I took my sweet kitty here. He had a huge abscess and needed tooth surgery. He’s 11 so it wasn’t too surprising. Unfortunately the surgery was immediately necessary and we were going out of town, so they did medical boarding for him. I went to visit a couple times before we left town and everything was great. He was clean and very well loved. While I spent a bucket of money, it was well worth it. Harry is back to 100%.
I would definitely recommend Wheaton Way Vet clinic. They’re kind people who don’t make you feel silly when you bawl in the waiting room about being homesick, the speeding ticket you got on the way to the clinic, and your sweet lil sick kitty. The vet gave me thorough explanations in a very clean, professional environment.
Be prepared to be shamed for letting your cat play with yarn balls, but be pleased when they give him catnip in your absence. Be prepared to spend money, but rest assured that they go over all your options, possibilities for things going a couple ways during surgery, and eventually come in under the initial estimate.

My husband and I have two adult cats and a 5 month old puppy. When we moved to Bremerton (from Silverdale) we wanted to take them somewhere close. big mistake. We switched from Ridgetop, which I still regret to this day.
We took our puppy and one of our cats who wasn’t microchipped yet in JUST to get microchipped. They said since we hadn’t taken then puppy in yet for his exam with them we’d have to do that. I was totally cool with that because he was still pretty young and we wanted to make sure he was up to date on all his shots. plus we just had some general questions about having a new puppy. The total cost was supposed to be around $ 130.00.
FIrst of all, they asked if our cat was having any problems, it didn’t really occur to me that I would be charged an exam fee just to talk to the doctor about my cats feeding schedule. COOL a $ 50 dollar charge for a 2 minute conversation. THEN she starts talking to me about a teeth cleaning that costs $ 400 for my cat… which turned into a 5 minute conversation about the process. REALLY? I CAME in to get him microchipped. Granted, I should have just not even said anything about his feeding schedule but they asked. my bad!
THEN I’m given a list for the puppy. A HUGE list of all these things «he needs». All he needed was his one shot… and that wasn’t due for a few more weeks. The vet noticed that the puppies nails were long and offered to «trim them». I said sure. I figured it was free (another mistake, they charged me $ 18 for this…). They then take the puppy and cat to get microchipped and I heard the puppy Unilocal SUPER loud. The vet tech comes back in the room with him… half his nails were bleeding and he was whining. She CLAIMED it was another dog making noises… but yeah. SERIOUSLY?
At this point I’m getting super annoyed. We finally get to leave and upon checking out at the front we’re given a $ 300 dollar bill. One item on the bill is for a fecal examination. I told them I really would prefer to pay for this once we brought the fecal matter in, but they still INSISTED that we pay up front. and bring it in later. I was so irritated that I said fine. Oh also, I wasn’t given a detailed receipt. I looked at it in the car and it was blank, so I had to go back in and ask for another one.
A week later I had stewed long enough over this and finally went in, asked for the records of all my pets and a refund ($ 50 mind you…) for the fecal test… which I never brought in. I was given a refund, but upon inspection of the paperwork for all three of my pets… their paperwork was all mixed up… and had tons of duplicates, their notes were also inaccurate
Anyways, we ended up taking our pets back to Ridgetop… and I’m happy. Maybe I’m too picky, but I really don’t enjoy getting nickeled and dimed when I am bringing in three animals already. it adds up fast and I feel they could be way more up front about what things are going to cost BEFORE they do them.

We take all of our menagerie here and they always treat our animals well. Our dogs and cats are much healthier and happier due to the professional treatment they receive at this clinic.
Not much to say other than you have to be careful who treats your animals. I’ve had nightmare vets hurt my animals because they were incompetent. This thankfully is not one of those clinics.
