Used to be Hi-Lo a few years ago. When you walk in you can tell it’s more of a little family owned market rather than a chain supermarket. This place has it’s positives and negatives. I like how this market offers some products that are not offered at Stop & Shop. Being that Bristol is a predominant Portuguese community Seabra offers a wide range or ethnic Portuguese food. It’s located right on the corner of Gooding Ave. and Hope Street and it’s in a little plaza with Family Dollar and Sovereign Bank. While the clerks at the registers are mostly high school kids, surprisingly for the most part they are friendly and personable. The lady at the courtesy desk is not so courteous. My last visit there my wife and I were in the express line. We were I’d say the 5th person in a line of about 7 or 8. I guess there was a problem with a transaction that was holding the line up. So the lady from the courtesy desk says she will take the next few people in line. There was an elderly man in front of me and he had maybe 2 or 3 things. After he is rung out, we’re next and I place my basket(with about 8 items in it) on the counter. The lady looks at the basket, looks at me with a dirty look and kind of throws her hands up in the air. So I say«I’m sorry was I not supposed to come here?» She does not reply and proceeds to take my items out of the basket and kind of throws them on the counter. Then one of my items rings up for $ 9.99 but it was marked on sale for $ 6.99. I inform her of this and she does the old huff n puff and whips out the current circular and whips through the pages. I tell her that there is a sale tag on the shelf where it is located and she rolls her eyes, I tell her«you know what forget it I don’t want it I’m getting sick of the attitude I am getting from you» and she replies in a very cocky tone«I’m sorry but I have to check the price.» Now I find out from my wife after we leave that back in the day when my wife worked here while she was in school, my wife was HER boss. Apparently she had the same attitude problem back then too. Fast forward a few years later, my wife is now a RN and her, well still a courtesy desk clerk lol. Anyways if I am in need of some Portuguese food and /or fresh baked Portuguese bread, that is when I come here. But honestly Seabra’s prices are not competitive with Stop & Shop. In fact i noticed a lot of Stop & Shop’s items are actually cheaper than Seabra’s.
