This was my second visit to Uncle Sam’s, and I’ve got to say that my first time was far better. That was for dinner, and the meals are mostly Italian style, very large portions, and very good quality. Yesterday, I met a couple of old former co-workers for lunch and the experience was like night and day. Our server was fine, she wasn’t the issue. Each of the other guys asked for a glass of their favorite beer, and she took our order for an appetizer of calamari. She returned a few minutes later to say they were out of BOTH beers, AND calamari. Ok, stuff happens. They each ordered a glass of another beer, and we ordered a plate of hot wings instead of calamari. Again, she returned to our table apologizing profusely, saying they were out of wings AND those beers on tap. WHAT??? At this point, the absurdity of it just made us laugh. O-KAAAAAY. So… no appetizer, and Heineken and Bud light in a bottle. I had told these guys about what a great meal I’d had the first time I came here… I shoulda’ kept my mouth shut… Jimbo and I ordered a fisherman’s platter, while good ol’ Steve was smart. He asked for a simple cheeseburger. It quickly became apparent that the clam strips and«fish fillet» had become old friends inside the freezer. We should have known better… Lesson learned. Steve did say his burger was quite good, however, so there was a very small amount of redemption there. It became clear to me that:(1) Don’t brag about a place ’til you’ve eaten there more than once.(2) This restaurant is far better suited for dinner because the food is better, and by evening the beer and food delivery guys have made their rounds. I averaged out the number of stars between my first and second visits here. Four for my first time, two for this time. I’ll likely return, but it would only be for dinner, and I’ll not be bragging about the place in advance.

Sometimes you just got to have Greek diner food! This is one of the best. It’s a little hard to miss, it’s not a classic retro silver diner. They are known for their the onion straws and waffle french fries, but particularly the souvlaki gyro! I’m not sure anyone does the volume that has the pressed lamb and beef meat on the vertical spit, cooking in front of you, but it’s good quality, nonetheless. It’s tzatziki sauce is one of the best I’ve ever had. My wife got a good quality simple hamburger, my daughter likes the chicken souvlaki and I’ve heard great things about their Italian food, grinders, and pizza. Great friendly service, family-run and busy when they’re open! A local favorite, I recommend it!

Great variety. Nice staff! I like to come here because no matter what anyone wants they have it. Love love love the onion rings! Their fisherman’s platter is to die for! The spinach pie, the sausage burgers, pizza, etc … you can’t go wrong.

Generous portions and great quality food if you’re looking for something quick, local and inexpensive. The pizza and hot oven grinders are like most other Greek-owned restaurants in the area but what sets them apart for us is the rest of their menu. They have a huge variety of appetizers, sandwiches and burgers. Unlike other Pizza restaurants who try to offer beyond the norm, Uncle Sam’s doesn’t disappoint. The best BBQ Chicken Sandwich. The owners are sweet & have superb customer service — & they don’t mind answering questions about the menu or catering to «picky eaters.»

Stopped in tonight for dinner. I wanted to try the pizza, ordered a small sausage & mushroom. My fiancée went with an Eggplant Parmesan meal w/spaghetti, a cup of chicken orzo soup instead of a salad. The chicken orzo soup was excellent. Waitress informed us all the soups here are very good, so we’ll be sure to go with a soup again next time, instead of a salad with a dinner. My fiancée’s Eggplant Parmesan was also very good. I felt my pizza was decent, Greek style, but not as greasy as some Greek pies I’ve eaten in the past. Good amount of cheese, sausage was tasty. Service was stellar again tonight at Uncle Sam’s Restaurant. Generous portions, very reasonable prices, Uncle Sams is still a solid 4 Star rating, IMO. We’ll definitely be back.

Excellent food, great service. Pizza is always delicious. Decided to go with a meal on our last visit. I ordered the(fried) seafood platter. For the price, it was a large order and nicely cooked. The only thing that prevented me from giving 5 stars was the beer selection. They need to add a few dark beers to the list. Otherwise, everything else was fantastic. We will definitely be returning soon.

Great place, my mom would always take me here growing up. What makes me crave Uncle Sam’s specifically is their famous onion rings. Greasy fried goodness lol hey you gotta treat yourself to it sometimes, but i highly recommend their steak grinders with roasted peppers. They are BIG so beware when you purchase a large. But overall this place is good.

Tons of great food here! They have awesome shoe-string onion rings, the house dressing is homemade and great! Service is always fast and nice and prices are fair. I recommend the Greek salad, gyros, and the buffalo chicken sandwich.

I no longer live in the area, but we used to go to Uncle Sams quite often. Their menu has variety, and the prices are decent. I would recommend this restaurant for someone to sit down and support a small diner business that isn’t Denny’s or IHOP. Personally, I liked everything on the menu minus their pizza.

The food is consistently good and prices are more than reasonable. This is a good place to get lunch or dinner especially if you work at Espn. There’s nothing overwhelmingly special though. The inside seems dreary but the staff is accommodating. Nothing really jumps out at you but the food is good. It’s a very convenient alternative to fast food at pretty much the same price.

Solid family restaurant. Fairly consistent quality. Pizza is typical but good. I have been happy with everything I get off the menu. Turkey Club usually good for two lunches.

This place is close to work and it’s always a sure bet for a solid meal at a good price. I favor the chicken parm grinder either with or without their roasted peppers or the buffalo chicken salad or any of their salads with chicken on them. I’ve never tried anything aside from those items but many of my co-workers eat their regularly with no complaints. The staff is always very friendly.

Fantastic restaurant! Our first time going to Uncle Sam’s and we weren’t disappointed. Ordered their famous onion rings, 1 sausage and onion pizza and 1 bacon pizza. Crust was full of flavor on both pies. Bacon was crispy and lots of it. Sausage was really tasty as well as the onion. Cooked perfectly. They seem to add more toppings and cheese than the usual pizza restaurant. Couldn’t ask for a better Greek style pizza. Onion rings were not so good. Flavor was OK but I believe they were under cooked as they had a somewhat pasty texture and were soaked in the oil they were cooked in. Overall just not good. Most were thrown away. Aside from this tragedy the pizza more than made up for it. Will be back for seconds and maybe thirds!

Decent pizza near work. Living in the New Haven area, and working up in Bristol, it is nice to have a change of pace from the NH style apizza. Uncle Sam’s is our go-to pizza place near work. Good greek-style pizza, with a good amount of sauce and not too much cheese(and the cheese is not under-cooked, which I like). I’ve never had anything besides pizza here, but the kids have had the fries and they are pretty good. Service is quick and friendly.

Me and my boyfriend are frequent guests, and we are never disappointed. It’s a comfortable atmosphere, great staff, and good eats! I am more of a salad girl myself, and let me say the salads are awesome. Very large servings and everything is always fresh. My boyfriend is more adventurous and tries everything and he too is always satisfied! A good price for the food served, we recommend this place to everyone.

All you need to know is: Onion Rings(which are strings rather than rings) and a Fish Sandwich. It’s like a Filet O Fish on steroids… and delicious.

Overall, pretty good food, at very reasonable prices, and acceptable service. I had the cheese pizza. It was typical Connecticut pizza: lots of sauce, a blanket of cheese, and the crust is a little thicker than thin crust, but not too doughy. My boyfriend ordered a provolone mushroom burger. The mushrooms were hard to find, and definitely from a can. Being a big fan of onion rings, and having read the previous review about them, he decided to try them… and was disappointed. He said they would work well on a green bean casserole. They were thin, tasted mostly like batter, not so much like onions. I tried them, and liked them — but I usually don’t like onion rings. They reminded me of the onion straws at Chili’s, but less greasy. Service was friendly, but a little slow. The waitress had only 3 or 4 tables to take care of, and seemed overwhelmed. It wasn’t terrible, but we were waiting a little longer than expected for the food, the check, and to pay. I would go back. :)

Just tried this place for the first time last week. The owners say they’re famous for their onion rings, and I could see why. These aren’t your typical onion rings — they’re thinly sliced and lightly battered and pretty delicious. Just add a little salt, and you’re good to go. Also had some pizza, which has a crispy and thick, but not too thick, crust, lots of cheese and toppings, and it’s all a great price. Actually, I’d say all the prices on Uncle Sam’s menu are fair. Definitely recommend it if you’re in the Bristol area.
