Gun Post Lanes

This place is horrible. This is my Fiancés account and I am posting on behalf of the service I recieved. I was chaperoning a school trip with 21 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th special education student. I had inquired about food and they stated they only had pizza. They also stated that McDonald’s was right across the street so I could get food for myself and eat with my student. That’s exactly what I did. Upon my return I was told by a staff member, I’m not allowed to bring in outside food, that the Health Department had come in and gave the place a load of fines. I explained that I was the only one and that I was told it was OK. 2 minutes later the poor excuse of an owner came out and told one of our parents, saying that no one told us to bring outside food and that we better clean up our mess. She told him she did not appreciate the way he was speaking to her and that our kids will leave the place clean. He then proceeded to yell at all of us about cleaning up our mess and not leaving the place dirty. At this point our kids were already done and waiting patiently for the few other students to finish up. We told this nasty, rude, and genuinely miserable old man that we would be leaving his establishment clean but he proceeded to yell. We upheld our standards as teachers, we cleaned up and got our students out of there.
The ratings for this place and it’s employees are not surprising after our encounter with the owner. The place is in need of new equipment as the ball kept getting stuck and half the time pins were missing from a game.
This place has lost our business and that of our fellow colleagues who will be urged not to go here. Steer clear of this place.
I hope that this bitter man controls himself next time before lashing out at a bunch of children for fabrications his mind has produced.

wow shittiest business in the bronx by far… no food, no food allowed, no credit cards…(shady) and even better no refunds… owner said «if you guys want come back tomorrow i’ll remember yall»…right…same your money… it’s said to say i’m from the bronx businesses like this give us a bad name

Worst bowling place ever. Customer service sucks. Visited twice, the first time was horrible but decided to try it out a second time but it was the same shitty service. ZERO STARS…

DESPICABLE! Owner needs to take some edicate and People skills courses on how to verbally speak amongst other humans! Apon entering the establishment my son had a beverage, the attendent advised us that outside beverages wern’t allowed. Before I could even respond to the attendent in eknowledging that we were going to place the opened beverage in a neighboring room as suggested by the attendent! The owner who obviously felt the need to NOT KNOW HIS PLACE! and excercise PROFESSIONALISM spoke in a anoyed and racist demeanor towards I and my under age child! SHAME ON THIS ESTABLISHMENT! I will NEVER spend another dollar in this place that I grew up loving as a teenager… Embarrassed to have even introduced this disgusting atrocity of a place to my kid!

Decided to come here for my sons 10^th bday … Boy oh boy do u get what u paid for. I was actually told by the owner «no one who works here knows any info so u have the wrong information». What a way to speak to guests. It was a horrible experience … The place is ghetto beyond words. Made the best of it Bc we were already there w/​a party. One thing I do know I won’t ever be back. Not even if someone paid me. Wish I could give zero stars but its not possible. But they have been open for years what do they care.

I wanted to like this place but the owner was unfriendly from the minute we walked in the door. He literally yelled across the room at me for walking past the counter to have a look around. As well, the guy beside us on the lanes had a terrible attitude. He arrived after us, took the ball I was using and said it was his regular bowling ball (I had gone and found it on the rack, it was a light one, which I need for my wrist), and refused to let me continue to use it. I had to go search for another. Since when does a guy use an 8lb ball? We felt VERY unwelcome here. It’s too bad. I’d much rather bowl at longstanding, neighborhood establishments, which are very rare these days, than new, fancy places. We also traveled 1.5 hours to get here to give it a shot. A waste of a day.

I come here yearly for my little brother’s birthday because he loves bowling. We usually come on a saturday in the early evening. Usually around that time you will see alot of families and birthday parties going on and I love how at that time it’s not super crowded. I’ve been here late at night and it usually gets crowded with young rowdy teenagers. My advice is that if you want to go so you can enjoy yourself and you are not on top of other people bowling, especially if you want to be surrounded by an atmosphere thats family oriented, then come early. I would say before 9pm. After a certain time the lights on the lanes dim and it looks somewhat like a disco ball. The music at this time is not too high making it ok to have a conversation where you can hear what the other person is saying. Most of the shoes are in decent shape and there’s always enough balls to choose from to bowl. I love how they have the metal rack where you can slide down the ball for young children to give them a head start. Overall my experiences here have been ok and my family and I wouldn’t come back year after year if we weren’t satisfied with this bowling ally

We went to bowl here this afternoon for happy hour. My friend called ahead to see if they had a bar and open bowling. When the owner confirmed both on the phone, we planned to bowl over a beer.
We arrived at 4:45. The place was crawling with high school students who were in a league. There were many signs posted everywhere about the «rules.» We paid for a game (all cash because it is cash only). Then we were told there would be no snacks and no alcohol until the students left. When I asked how long that would be, the owner wouldn’t say anything except «when they are done they will leave.» We decided to leave after ten minutes and NEVER bowling. We asked for our money back. He called me «sweetheart» several times and asked me to read the signs about «no refunds.» I told him we were not seeking a refund since we did not bowl. He screamed at me that I wanted him to break the law and serve us alcohol. I stayed calm and told him we just wanted the money that he JUST put in the register. He still refused and called me sweetheart. When I asked him to please stop yelling (he was) and to stop calling me sweetheart (he didn’t). He became even more belligerent.
We left. He took our money… This also explains cash only… Credit card companies advocate for their customers when businesses are rude or corrupt.
This place is trash and the owner and his male employees are sexist pigs and scammers.

As much as I’d like to complain about this place, doing so ironically takes away from its niceties.
I mean, on its face, there are complaints abound: the manager/​owner is a pompous asshole who will give you attitude anytime you ask him for anything; the game screen will constantly crash during your game and you’ll have to walk over to the front counter and get attitude just for asking them to reset the screen; the bowling alley looks straight out of 1974; they don’t take debit cards like it’s 1974 (only cash); vending machine items are 3 dollars; there’s no parking lot; and most employees seem generally annoyed that you’re even there.
For all of those reasons, however, the place is generally empty, which works out great! We threw a kids birthday party here and the kids had ample room to run around and have a good time. As adults, we could play game after game and not worry about being rushed out of a lane because there were no other patrons there willing to be treated like shit — like us. Games are cheap, too. Only $ 7.50 a game, which convinced me this place has to be a drug front. Also, on a «that’s cool» note, if you bowl a hard strike, it will completely shut down the game screen and screw up the electronics in the pin reset, leaving you feeling like The Incredible Hulk.
So, if you ever just want to bowl some good games without all the flash that comes in bowling alleys where the staff treats you with decency and respect, this is your place. I’ll definitely be back.

Only reason this place sucks was because of the bar inside. Measly olé small sippy cups for liquor. And I think the guy was racist or just didn’t seem like he wanted to serve my friend and I. I’ve been to plenty of bars and clubs and know how bartenders should attend to there customers. He wasn’t. Bowling is great other wise. They need a new bar owner and business

So I came here just to past some time with a friend and I must say it was a horrible decision on my part. Lets start with they don’t take cards which is really inconvenient.
It does have a very old school feel to it which didn’t bother me as much. They don’t have very much varieties in bowling balls, the lane I was in kept eating the bowling balls and not returning them. I had to call an attendant more than twice to retrieve the balls. The pin reset was moving slower than I would have like to imagine.
And I guess I choose a day to go when there were nothing but loud obnoxious individuals there because the behavior of some of them didn’t make the place seem like a family environment.
Lesson learned don’t go back especially on a Saturday.

Gun Post Lanes bowling alley has been around for ages I remember going here since I was 12 years old. Much hasn’t change. This places is such a drab, it’s your no frills kind of place compared to the «super bowling alleys’ we have these days. This place has not updated it bowling alley to the technology ages. An employee has to enter you name for you on the scoring monitor machine. Our lane went out of commission twice; we had to switch to another lane.
A lot of families come here to bowl. This bowling alley is within walking distance to my home that’s the only plus about this bowling alley. There is a small enclosed bar area where they serve liquor and you can watch the game on TV which can be a plus for a few people. The bowling price comes with the shoe rental which was $ 6 a game, which is cheaper than the «super bowling alleys» today.

Not a bad place to bowl. I came here a lot when I was little, so I’d call it more of a family or children’s atmosphere than a place for young adults.
It has a real old school quaint type of feel to it, which I like. Makes you feel like if you were retired you could bowl here until you turned 200.

It’s large enough to accomodate many people. It still has old equipment. Although they are making some monitor changes. On a Sat. evening the young teens get real rowdy and excessive with their cussing. Families would be advised to go earlier. It would help if more people smiled or were more pleasant doing thier jobs. It seems city people are very stressed ²⁴⁄₇. Or they think the mean stare works for them. O well! We three enjoyed each other and had to get my 11 yr old son to ignore the teens. Good luck all.

This is a pretty old school bowling alley in the Bronx. Def not in the greatest location, saw a few hooligans and thugs at the bowling alley but they didn’t cause any problems for anyone. Overall it is a good time for your friends if your just looking for low key casual night out, also has a few pool table which is pretty fun. Clean place, meh decent food, not bad at all

This is a bowling alley like stepping back 20 years ago! So I’ve bowl there 3 times in a row!

Stepping into Gun Post Lanes is like stepping back into 1988! Once inside you are completely surrounded by neon, tacky (and FILTHY) carpets, and some of the most out-​dated machinery I’ve ever used. I can’t complain about the prices, although the shoes felt icky…
They fill the lanes in order, so even on a slow night you are packed very closely between families and drooling at the empty lanes at the end. The score-​computer is antique and the staff has to set it up for you, lest you press the wrong button and it explodes.
There was no shortage of bowling balls in many different sizes and weights. The bar was reasonably cheap, although with all the Heineken signs around, you’d think they would actually serve Heineken. Our lane had two freeze-​ups during two games and we waited for ten minutes for the first to be fixed. The bathroom matched the carpets (FILTHY).
Not sure I would return here… sometimes it’s worth it to pay a little more for updated equipment and hygiene.

My local bowling alley… only a few block away from me so it’s convenient. Don’t let the outside fool you. I know it needs a paint job outside, but the inside is nice. It’s a beneficial place to spend your time and have some fun — nice for kids and groups. They have pool tables, so that you can enjoy a nice pool game with some friends or other people. It has two sides to play bowling. It is never packed when I go here, so I would expect the same if you go here. You are not expected to spend much here. Prices are low and beneficial if you are on a strict budget. It is definitely worth going to.

Inexpensive; 4 – 5.50 $ a game, and shoe rental is free. Nicely lit for families. Plenty of food around the area. Staff were friendly, and atmosphere not crazy hectic. The bowling balls, shoes and lanes are in very good condition
