I’m partial to Haven Arts Gallery because my boyfriend has had two photography shows here recently. It’s on a non-descript street in a non-descript building, but it’s a nice, raw space. There is one larger room in the front(high ceiling, good lighting), and two smaller rooms in the back. The furthest back opens up onto the enclosed loading dock, which also has some sculptural art on display. The people who run Havens Arts are nice, and I get a sense that they are trying hard to build an arts community in the neighborhood. It looks like they offer(or at least host) some sketching classes, and they hosted a mini film festival a few weeks back. Lastly, it’s actually not a bad trek from Manhattan — it’s the first stop in the Bronx(138th St. &3rd Ave) and a short walk from the station.
