YIIPPEEEE! Those white farm tents make me happy as soon as I glimpse them from a few blocks down. Several farm stands by the Hunt’s Point train station provide much needed fresh produce for the locals. There are usually 2⁄3 farm stands teeming with vegetables and fruit, albeit, the produce is geared towards the clientele: collards, tomatillos, peppers… you get the picture. You’ll be hard pressed to find some organic mixed salads, or some fresh honey or any kind of dairy or baked goods but they need to bring that which will sell since they are lugging it all the way uptown. Whatev. It’s all good. Options and the ability to buy it fresh is what is important. There are always people shopping when I go and I am not surprised. Plus, it reminds me of shopping at the mercados with my grandma. Funny, It doesn’t feel like that when I do the Union Square Market. Hmmm. They are there Wednesdays and Saturdays all day until October.
