This was probably by far my favorite steakhouse. The first two times that me and my girlfriend ate here were amazing. The service was great, the waiter was attentive and polite. However, the third time was totally the opposite. We waited for our food for a really long, long, time. We order baked clams as an appetizer and asked the waiter for hot sauce(Tabasco) which never came to the table therefore we decided to eat the clams because we were too hungry and we were tired of waiting. We order a porterhouse for two medium well and when they brought the steak to the table the steak was rare, very rare. Besides that, our steak was cold which indicates that it wasn’t just made. We order a second side of garlic mashed potatoes and we were not offer fresh black pepper which was always offer to us on our previous visits. I was hoping to have a wonderful dinner and celebrate our anniversary but the whole experience turned out to be UNPLEASANT to say the least.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years now and the quality has somewhat diminished over the past few years. I ordered the shrimp scampi and the dish looked scattered and unappetizing. I can’t understand how a restaurant such as Jake’s would give their customers food that looked like my 9 year old son put it together. The taste was okay but the presentation was very horrendous. I would have given this restaurant 4 stars because the steaks are pretty good but a word of advice: present your food in a desirable and delectable fashion.

When they’re good they’re great but I’ve stopped going because something’s always disappointing and unacceptable, including the service. What is consistent is the totally inept manager Jimmy who needs to be fired.

I ordered the bone in filet. It was the most overdone piece of meat I’ve ever had; it was an old, greasy tasting cut of meat. I asked for medium rare and expected it to be cooked to perfection. The muscles were fishy and gritty. The scallops were small and over done. The rum punch was watered-down; the ice had more flavor than this drink. We spent $ 370 and would have rather eaten at Long Horn in Cross County because their porterhouse is better than this $ 50 old tasting piece of meat. Thank you for my birthday present. P. s. J. M. Make a reservation! You get seated right away once you arrive. My dinner date and I ordered Applewood smoked bacon as an appetizer; rich in flavor though a bit high in salt. The Porterhouse Steak for two was very tender and full of flavor and definitely more than enough for two! Great service. Pricey but worth every penny!

Amazing i was impressed with the overall service and the quality of food. I started with the crab cakes and it was one big cake with real authentic crab meat my only regret was that we decided to share it but we wont do that again. Then my main meal was Chicken Franchise and my partner got Lobster tail i had a taste of all and it was cooked to perfection and was very fresh tasting i have to come again!

Jake’s Steakhouse is alright, but although a local favorite, we’re not entirely convinced and only go infrequently. There is a bar and seating downstairs, and a more gracious although sometimes crowded and noisy, dining room with striking views over Van Cortland Park up an unfortunately difficult staircase. They offer steak house fare at steak house prices, without necessarily convincing us that they’re a «real» steakhouse! However, they also have a $ 30 three course early-bird dinner menu if that fits your schedule and budget. Although the northern terminus of the #1 subway line is above ground only a block away, most patrons come via car and local parking can be difficult to find, so one is well advised to make use of their valet service.

Good restaurant. Have never had a problem till I tried to book a dinner for 20 people. I found the entire management team excluding Elizabeth to be very rude and aloof. After being told to expect return calls that were never received I decided they really don’t want my business and booked somewhere else. I will never return as a diner, and I recommend never booking Jakes for any event.

I could never say a bad thing about this place. I’ve been coming here all the time for the passed 4 years to get lunch with my dad. We always always always get the fillet mignon crostinis for an appetizer, they are amazing!!! The staff is super nice and friendly. The food is awesome and there’s usually a few good beers on tap. This place never disappoints

Things started out well enough. I was impressed by the ambience and the friendliness of the hostess. My fiancé and I were seated without a wait even though we didn’t have reservations. We then sat at an empty table with just glasses of water and menus for the next 10 minutes. After noticing several other tables receiving service, I motioned to the hostess. When she came over I told her that we had not yet been greeted by a server. She apologized and asked a server that wasn’t assigned to us(I only know this because he introduced himself as not our waiter, but just filling in for our actual waiter) to greet us. He was cordial, but somewhat apathetic as he never bothered to tell us what the specials were for the day and got our food order wrong. The food was meh. I ordered the the T-Bone steak and my fiancé ordered the braised short ribs. Both of our meals were overcooked. I love my steak seared medium rare with a bit of crust. What I got was medium with no crust. I also recieved garlic mashed potatoes instead of sauteed mushrooms as my side. When I questioned my server he brought out flavorless mushrooms that had either been steamed or microwaved(def not sauteed). We decided to cut our losses and skip dessert. What made our experience particularly frustrating was that several other groups of varying sizes seated within the same dining room seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their experience, and were getting plenty of attention from the staff. I even observed our«fill-in» server reciting the specials of the day for a party of 6. Maybe we were just unlucky, but this experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Rather than stiff the staff by leaving a cheap tip, I decided to share on Unilocal.Overall poor service and subpar food. For what they charge I would have expected things to have gone much smoother. One and done.

yes not a 5 start by any means. Maybe i had really high expectations but when i was not the only one mentioning the issues… Walked by, drove by, took a bus by this place for 15 years before stepping foot in it. I was always thinking it was too expensive for me to eat there. Well this Valentines weekend i went in and came out with such mixed feelings. 1.- Service is superb. From the Valet to the servers 100% on point. Valet got our car, we walked in, got seated and waitress came over, food came in. bread was delivered to the table… cant ask for more 2.- Food is hummm how do i put it. Hit or miss, So-so, Mas o menos. Ordered the special 14oz steak with garlic mash and green peppers. others ordered Half lobster tail and 8oz steak with Mac and cheese and some apps like coconut shrimp and fried calamari. My steak came cut into 8 pieces which i didn’t think they would do that at a steak house? very odd but never the less not bad but not great. Tasted normal nothing to remember the place by but it was the special of the day i was hoping for wow here. The garlic mash had a hint of garlic and not bad. The lobster was really good but the mac and cheese, well out of a box would have tasted better. The fried calamari is just normal, more salt/pepper would have given it a better taste. Just tasted fried nothing else. The Shrimp was actually very good. I started to think that the steak house was actually better at seafood than meats. Wine selection is great specially their Karma Riesling was actually very nice. When leaving, the valet got the car before we got out the door. very good that way we didn’t get cold or waited long. In the end, the place is very nice, not bad at all but dont set your expectations super high. That ruined it for me but i will definitely give it a try again just to make sure it was not a bad day.

As a bronxite, I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time now. So we came here for a Pre Valentines Day dinner — Saturday evening with our friends. The atmosphere was nice and warm and we were seated overlooking the park. For our apps we ordered the Calamari and Crab cake(1 cake btw) Both apps were good not great. The complimentary bread on the table was good as well. On to our entrees, On our table we had: a petite fillet(med) t-bone(med) 2 surf and turfs Sides were: creamed spinach mac and cheese garlic mash Cesar salad Desert: Broadway Brownie My petite filet was good but I def had better! It wasn’t as juicy as other filets I’ve tasted. I actually kept eating off my husbands t bone steak. His was definitely juicy, tender and seasoned well. And it already came sliced. :) Our friends liked their surf and turf but I know they were a bit disappointed as well. The petite filet on their plate was much smaller than the petite on my plate. odd The sides were good. Mac and cheese was good and so was the spinach. Can’t say the same about the cesar salad. What the heck happened to the dressing? The salad was dry and the only thing good on it was the shaved cheese! I ordered a virgin piña colada with the apps and it was subpar. I enjoyed my soda drink much more lol. Now we ordered the desert and I gotta say I was looking forward to it. I mean the description. WARM double fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Sounds great right? Well the brownie was NOT warm at all, the caramel sauce was more like a tiny line on top of the crystallized ice cream. The ice cream was not smooth and creamy. No bueno! I do have to say we had a great waitress and we def had a great time with our friends. We were never rushed to order or anything like that and thats always a plus with us. I would return maybe not soon and next time make some different menu choices and hopefully it goes well. But for my first visit I was a bit underwhelmed. BTW we valet parked b/c there was no street parking available.

First time here, won’t be the last! Bang Bang shrimp very good! My husband and I both had specials. He had the Filet Mignon on the bone, cooked to perfection. Great flavor! I had the Chilean sea bass, with the most perfect brocolirabe! That really was the best! Then our waiter, Duke, recommended the chocolate cake special! Another great choice! The service was amazing! Thanks!

As most of you know, this Tasty Lady loves her meat! Preferably a nice T Bone or Filet Mignon with Bernaise sauce. After many friends recommended Jake’ a Steakhouse to me, I decided to go today. And guess what? I’m pissed!!! That’s right downright livid I did not go sooner! All this wasted time driving to Ruth Chris or Smith and Wolensky to get primo steaks, service and overall quality when Jake’s was in my own back yard in the Bronx! That’s right gang the same quality, upscale service and made-right-every-damn-time steaks and rustic steakhouse ambiance are all waiting for you at Jake’s! First the restaurant is beautiful, two levels, dark wood décor, huge, long bar, table clothes, leather bound menus, plush leather booths, yada, yada, yada… You know the type of place you want to enjoy your steaks! Brian our server was quick, professional and had the answer to every question this lady could throw at him with a sexy smile to boot! We started with our favorite(which Ruth Chris cut out recently) of hearty, cheesy, beefy, oniony French Onion soup with the best combination of mozzarella and Swiss charred onto the top and sides of a crock! Just gorgeous! Then onto the steaks! I had a perfectly seasoned and grilled T-Bone that with every bite screamed top quality beef! With a side baked potato and their own house steak sauce, I devoured my meal! My guest had the petite filet mignon with Bernaise sauce which I stole a piece of and had the same experience! Though the Bernaise sauce is a tad thinner than I usually have, I loved it and hopefully it had less calories too! The side of garlicky mashed potatoes were delicious with just the right creamy, lumpy consistency you want with just enough seasoning and garlic to complement this meal! By the way, I ordered a Manhattan, easy on the ice that was perfect and not stingy with the liquor! We didn’t think we had room for dessert but after hearing from Brian that most desserts are made on the premises we had to go for Jake’s Boston Cream Pie that was heavenly and busting with custard! Of course I had to order my «test» coffee, the Millionaire’s Coffee hold the whip(I have to cut back somewhere!) Now a lot of restaurants don’t know how to make it or give me a problem or ask me what’s in it. GOOGLEITANDMAKEYOURCUSTOMERHAPPY! Well without flinching Brian took my order and swiftly brought me my perfectly made Millionaires Coffee! We also met the manager Meghan that I immediately liked with her warm, down to earth way and her patience and time of showing me the upper levels which are used for private parties and busy weekend diners. They have happy hour Mon-Fri from 4−6pm, a Sunset Menu from 4 – 6 as well with specially priced dinners and now Football Specials at the Bar. All I can say at this point is they better get use to seeing this Tasty Lady face, cause now that I tried them, I’m hooked!

I’ve lived in the Bronx my whole life and can’t believe this restaurant has been sitting here for the last 15 years without me noticing. I’m not a big red meat eater, but family friends had good things to say about Jake’s so I chose it for my birthday dinner. Jake’s is located in Riverdale right on Broadway, easily accessible from the Henry Hudson Parkway and not a far walk from the 1 train. The restaurant is two floors; the first floor contains the bar and a few booths and the second floor has more tables and booths with large windows providing nice views of Van Cortlandt Park. The décor is typical steakhouse: low lighting with a variety of browns, reds, and wood tones. I started with Jake’s crab cake; it was super fresh — tasted just like the ocean! The outside was crispy and it was paired with chipotle and dijon dipping sauces which complimented the crab well. For my main I had the petite filet mignon which was super tasty; we decided to carb out and ordered family-style sides of macaroni and cheese, hash browns, and cheddar bacon croquettes. For dessert I had the bread pudding which was paired with vanilla ice cream. Everything was delicious. Service was great, our waitress was attentive throughout our meal. I really enjoyed my experience at Jake’s — definitely a place to come for a special occasion. It really made my birthday dinner exceptional and I look forward to returning.

I would give it 3.5 stars. Soon as I walked in, the hostess was very welcoming. I explained to her that I was about half hour early for my reservation. She told me it was ok, so i sat at the bar and waited for my friend. I dont drink, but even i thought the bar was pretty cool. A wide variety of different liquors, and a nice wooden countertop. Even though i didnt order anything, the bartender would check up on me every 10 minutes just incase i changed my mind. There were also plenty of tvs mounted on the walls, so i distracted myself watching a few different footballs games. My friend texted me and told me he would be running late. I didnt want to lose our reservation, so i walked over to the hostess to see what could be done. She had no problem switching our reservation for a later time. Finally, when my friend arrived, we were seated in one of the booths located in the lower level of the restaurant. The booths are real nice; spacious, cushioned, and elevated so youre not sitting so low. Our waitress Introduced herself and told us all about the special orders for that particular night. My friend and i skipped any appetizers and went straight for the entrees. He ordered Shell Steak Au Pouvre with a side of Garlic Mash Potatoes. I tasted some of his steak; the sauce poured all over it made it taste phenominal. The mash potatoes on the other hand werent too buttery or any good in general, according to him. Of course I ordered the Porterhouse for 2, with a side of Mac n Cheese. The steak was massive; maybe 42 or 44 oz. I usually order my steak medium well because i cant stand cold food. This time i decided to take a risk and order it just medium. Once again i was disappointed. The steak came out a little warm, but right away it became cold after just a few minutes of sitting on the table. I usually finish my steaks, but i hate cold food so much that i just couldnt stand eating any more. The Mac n Cheese was another big disappointment. I thought it would have a mix of 4 or 5 different cheeses. Even though the portion was fine and the taste wasnt bad, turns out it wasnt much more than something made by «Kraft». I didnt bother to finish it either. For dessert, i ordered the Pecan Pie. It was ok. Nothing out of this world; not much more to say about that. My friend ordered Jakes Cream Pie. That was definately delicious. Nice and creamy in the center, topped with chocolate syrup; it was a great portion as well. I shouldve definately ordered one of those. Overall, i definately expected more when it comes to taste. Being from the Bronx, and after reading all the great reviews, i thought i was going to be blown away. Unfortunately, that wasnt the case. I personally dont care for returning. Manhattan and Brooklyn still reign supreme when it comes to steak. On a more positive note, the service was definately great; from the bartender, to the hostess, to our waitress. Big shoutout to Gale for being so attentive and helpful. The décor was nice and the noise level was definately minimal. I would suggest this place for a date.

I visited this steakhouse for a meeting from my work. It was a big group of about 30 people, so it was very chaotic from valet parking, but it wasn’t too bad. The dinner was buffet style with salad and meat dishes. The food wasn’t top notch, but was adequate for the night. Service was very attentive considering how chaotic it is to serve 30 people at the same time. I would be ok to go back to this place for another big group meeting, but you should be there early enough, keeping in mind that you will spend some time trying to park(either by valet or self)

Been here twice and I’ve been forgetting to review it not because it wasn’t memorable or anything like that Anyway the food drinks and service here is pretty good doesn’t get five stars because unbeknownst to me as I’m leaving I noticed that they had a B rating from the department of health which is a damn shame Valet parking here which is God because the area can be pretty scarce when it comes to finding a spot Small place and it gets Crowded quick but it is an excellent date night spot to visit and you won’t be disappointed when you go Uh obviously try the steak when you come lol

A wonderful little steakhouse tucked away in the Bronx. Some friends and I came here for dinner the other day, and we enjoyed every minute of our time here. The ambiance is warm and has a cool, old feel to it. The wait staff was superb as well. Duke, our waiter, was top notch and very knowledgeable about the menu and drink options. He recommended me a glass of wine that was perfectly paired with the food I ordered. He and the other waiters also came back to fill water and check on the table frequently, which was great. In terms of the food, it is pricey, but not much worse than any other steakhouse in the city. If you’re coming to a steakhouse, you should already be prepared to pay a nice price. I ordered the Petite Steak for myself. It was a little pinker than i anticipated and got cold shortly after arriving to me. I am admittedly a slower eater, but not slow enough that it should’ve cooled off so quickly. As a table we ordered the wedge salad, portobello mushroom salad, frizzled onions, mac & cheese, and asparagus. All of them were divine. My delicious cappuccino at the end really put a cherry on top of the entire evening. Besides the temperature and extra pink of my filet, the entire experience and meal was wonderful. I’ll definitely be back with more friends and family!

It was my wife & I anniversary dinner. First time at Jakes Steak House. I made a last minute Friday night 6:45PM reservation for 2 ppl like 2 hr ahead on a Labor Day weekend Friday night. I was so happy they were able to accommodate.. I love how they honored the reservation time(most places dont) Upon arrival we noticed The staff was very welcoming. The ambience was very warm & inviting. Now to the food. Tastefulness, in a good way. The chicken Florentine was really good & The steak was amazing. A bit pricey nonetheless great. I definitely will recommend this place to others.

Came here to celebrate a birthday. It was a drizzly summer day but the place was full! Old-fashioned décor, a modern update would be very welcomed. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, onion soup, shell steak au poivre, the salmon, and a pork special. With two drinks the total was about $ 150 not including tip, so the prices weren’t crazy. Service was really good. Our waitress, Gail, was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was just ordinary, nothing special.

My husband introduced me to this place years ago when we were still dating and I fell in love with the place… Living now in Jersey it’s tough to drive to NY to eat at Jake’s being that there are oh so many other restaurants that we like to revisit… We were passing by the area and my husband decided to surprise me by taking me back to one of my favorite steak house… First all they have summer hours which on a Sunday is kind of inconvenient to go eat after 4 pm but hey is not like I eat there on a daily basis so is none of my business. Second, we haven’t been at Jake’s for years and it looks exactly how I remember it it’s spotless clean, even the ladies bathroom makes me wonder why they have a «B»??? Anyway service was SPECTACULAR, that’s why I’m giving a 4 stars instead of 3… Now let’s talk about the food… Ughhh it wasn’t as good as I remember it. Hubby and I ordered 2 appetizers, oysters and steak crotini can’t complain it was delicious. The steak melted in your mouth and oysters were good and fresh… For our entrée we ordered steak for 2 with a couple of sides spinach, mixed veggies, sauteed mushrooms and sauteed broccoli. Let’s start with the beef … I ate it but didn’t care for it I remember it by being marinated to the point that it didn’t need sauce(A-1 or bbq sauce) needless to say I had to drown my beef w bbq sauce yuck… The vegetables looked sad especially the mixed vegetables… Actually the veggies needed Jesus!!! Never had I ordered an order of mixed vegetables and it had only been onions, red peppers, dead overcooked squash and 2 broccoli??? Gross… The sauteed vegetables wasn’t even green it looked like it got cooked thrown in the fridge and warmed up when the order got placed… The mushrooms let’s just skip that no flavor DISAPPOINTING … My guess is that they have a new chef since the last time we went… Actually after writing this review I’m deducting a star… I’m sticking with Ruth Chris Steak house … PS make sure to take a sweater or something it’s always freezing in there

My second visit gave me a final viewpoint about Jakes steakhouse, meh not. I wish I brought my husband on his birthday somewhere else, drive a little father in Brooklyn and we can get a sizzling steak for two, not a room temperature steak that’s been sitting in the expo’s shelf while waiting for the creamed spinach to be cooked. Anyways, to begin with, we were seated by the wall. Our water glasses were filled right away with tap water. Our waitress Kaitlyn came by and greeted us, but we were just seated to decide and see what’s in the drink menu, give us a couple minutes and we will see what’s in the drink menu. then we ordered drinks, I asked her for sparkling water, a glass of Riesling and husband ordered Heineken. We also made up our minds for our dinner– ordered crabcake and applewood smoked thick cut bacon for appetizers, then two t bones, sides of creamed spinach, sweet potato fries, garlic mashed and sautéed onions. Crabcake is served with aioli and tartar sauce, in a bed of mixed greens. It’s okay, I think it’s a little undercooked. The bacon comes in two pieces, I find it salty but passable. Main course; two t bone for $ 42 each, you’ d expect a high quality steak, it’s disappointing that it’s served in room temperature. Not hot, it’s obvious it’s been sitting there along with the other cooked steaks while waiting for the other sides to be cooked. Very disappointing.(our first time, I ordered filet mignon and I wasn’t impressed, hubby told me his t bone is nice, maybe I just ordered the wrong item, but no, I am convinced that Jakes is only a hype since it’s the only steakhoise in the Bronx. By the way, the waitress forgot our sparkling water and I had to remind her while we were having our appetizers. The ambiance is very casual, it felt like I was in a food court, it’s very noisy and bright. The carpet is outdated, the table cloths are so out of date, the is no music playing, it’s just very casual and nothing special. Our check came up to $ 176 plus tip. I won’t come back. I won’t recommend. I have a peace of mind with my decision. Two thumbs down.

I’ve been here many times. A few locals sit at the bar and can have dinner and drinks there rather than on a table. Recently I tried a new addition to the Menu, The Chicken Parmesan Sliders with fries. Definitely a great addition for those of us that don’t eat much Steak. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The bar tenders are great too. What I like about their happy hour is that is includes wine.(4pm to 6pm I believe). Though I often go in Casual Attire, I would not wear sneakers.
