There’s a reason the health department gives this place such a hard time. It’s disgusting. The food is mediocre at best. Why is this the only large Dominicans restaurant cratering to the area is beyond me. The last time I was here I was ordering a lunch special and happened to glance over at the rice tray to find a cockroach just walking around. Do yourself a favor take the D train and go to the heights. Stay clear of this place.

I ordered on a Sunday at 1030 am. It is now 1pm & I am still waiting for my food. I got it at 130pm. The food was cold even though I’m less than 15 minutes away. Salty & subpar. Spend your money elsewhere!

Was craving some chicharron. So my friend and I ordered some for delivery.
We ordered some chicharrones (chicken), mofongo (It was pretty hard and dry, but the bean/​sauce made it edible), an order of tostones and an order of platanos.
Food = 3
Service = 4 (delivery was pretty standard. took about an hour tops)
Price = 3 (Everything we ordered came out to about $ 25.00)
Our orders came with one helping of rice, bean/​sauce and a little bit of salad with the mofongo.
all in all. not bad. not bad at all. Just wish it was a little less pricey.
Also, their website was not working, so all we had to do was call and order.

Came here for a happy hour a fraternity was hosting.
I always heard about the happy hours/​parties at this place and I decided it was time to check it out.
I came here with my sorority sisters and the vibe was pretty good. I heard about the $ 25 fishbowls which only meant I had to try one. They were delicious and HUGE! The only thing was that it wasn’t too strong; but it’s okay– it was DELICIOUS!
The rest of the drinks were $ 5 (for the happy hour) and the hookah was $ 20. These prices were very good for a happy hour. In addition, the music was pretty good and so was the ambiance.
I will definitely come here again!

This place doesn’t deserve any stars. Ridiculous poor customer service. I had to pack my own food. Smfh complaining is useless because they didn’t even apologize. On my black list.

The delivery took forever and the food was cold as hell.
The orange juice that’s supposed to be «freshly squeezed»
Is a fucking joke.
They mix it with water (yes waterd down orange juice)) to make more profit off each pitcher. I also paid in hard earned cash for a slice of avocado (rotten as f)
It’s disgusting.
The service is a joke and a disgrace to Caribbean cuisine.

I have eaten here before and the food is good but I decided to walk over with my husband tonight and I have two words, Horrible Service!!! We sat where you ordered to go and waitresses passed by us several times never asking if we ordered. When we finally ordered we waited for half an hour for our food bc the chicken wasn’t ready. About 6 other people came and ordered chicken and were in and out. When we finally ask where are food is, the cook said he had no idea we ordered a whole chicken… By this time we took one look at each other and walked out… They have lost my business for good!

Good food, service was a little off. Ordered a mofongo de chicharron it Did the job… will come here again for some lunch. I won’t order from the menu though as they took a while to get the order out. Food was good and that’s all that matters to me really, I didn’t go for the experience.

Do not, let me repeat, do not bother!!! Ask for something on the menu, not available. Ask for white meat chicken, get dark meat and a shrug from the waitress. I’d rather she say oh well. And the avocado, what can I say, it was harder than the days old snow outside. If you dare to come, don’t say you weren’t warned.
P. S. I only put a star because I had no choice!

The food is good especially if you know about spanish food… at night it turns into a lounge kind of pricey for a restaurant tho… they got special on beers on sunday for $ 1 sometimes they have performances by professional artist (dominican artist) at a reasonable price $ 20 – 25

Food is good enough… Chorizo tacos, sopes and tamales «de rajas» are good specially with an order of black beans and yellow rice
I’ve ordered for delivery several times but one time though i went to pick up an order around 7 – 9 and didn’t like the place much to eat there, music is excruciatingly loud !!!

Staff is rude and nasty and the food quality has deteriorated over the years. It was a decent place once upon a time. Only reason I still get food from there is for the Chicharron de Pollo, but half the time they mess it up any way.

Pros:
— Turns into a lounge at night
— Opportunity for new talent to perform on stage a show.
— Good music. (Reggaeton & Bachata)
— Ladies free before 12am
Cons:
— $ 10 cover charge for guys no matter the time.

My Experience:
La Nueva Estrella means «A New Star.» So it’s a perfect place for a new Latin artist to get their first gig on stage.
Went here on a Wednesday night for the first time to see my friends perform on stage. It’s a restaurant during the day but at night turns into a lounge with a stage for nightly performers. I didn’t go here during restaurant hours so I can’t give you my opinion about the food. I can only give you my opinion about the lounge hours.
There’s a separate room for the lounge which is guarded by a bodyguard who collects $ 10 per person. When I paid my $ 10 I walked in to a room with about 30 people sitting at the tables… facing the stage watching the DJ throw down his Reggaeton mixes with some Bachata added to the flavor. No dancing? The music was good… I just couldn’t understand why no one was dancing. So I grabbed my boyfriend and headed to the empty dance floor and started dancing. Soon after… couples started coming to the floor to dance and that’s when the party started.
The music is good. However… the music is extremely loud. Louder than any club you’ve ever been to loud. Loud to the point that it’s you’re-gonna-be-deaf-in-60-seconds loud. Loud to the point that you can’t enjoy the music for what it is because all you hear is your eardrums rattling. Loud to the point that my ears are still throbbing the next day as i’m writing this loud review. Everyone in my group couldn’t even socialize because the music was just over powering so we had to text each other. Luckily, I carry ear plugs with me since I go to the shooting range… but still even with the ear plugs on… my ear drums were still rattling. lol
My friends performed at about 2:30am and they did such a great job! However who ever did the mic checks didn’t do a good job because the music overwhelmed the vocals. You coudnt hear the artists that well when they were performing on stage since the music was louder than the vocals. It was a great opportunity for a group who is just starting off to get themselves comfortable being on stage and get their name out there. I think this place can get more business for their lounge hours if they had FREE cover charge because they would make their money at the bar. The only reason why I paid $ 10 was to come see my friends perform… otherwise, if I knew there was a cost… I wouldn’t come any other day. The place is way too slow on a weeknight to even have a cover charge to begin with.

It’s just alright. Food is good and prices are reasanoble.
