The LOVE I have for Italian food and the culture is no secret… Came here before closing(I’m hoping this was a bad idea) I wanted to love this place on the first go round. Sandwich was good, but not enough meat(compared to other photos I’ve seen), however the bread was better! Cotechino was overpriced… should’ve traveled to Raffetto’s instead. I’m willing to go back for other things tho

Attended a party in Manhattan with food and bar catered by Mike’s. Both food and service were excellent! I ate everything! My family left and I stayed to eat more! I really recommend the fried artichoke! Very soft and delicious. My next trip to NY(with a car) will include a journey to the Bronx to visit Mike’s in person! I cannot wait!

After risking my life trekking from Bronx Zoo through the ghettos to Mike’s Deli, I couldn’t wait to try this exceptional eggplant parm. I bought into the hype and left disappointed. There are two lines — the counter is for take out only, the line by the tables is for dine in. Their famed eggplant parm on a hero was such a letdown. The eggplant is microwaved and thrown on a untoasted hero. The sandwich was bland and lukewarm. The bread was cold. Nothing about it was appetizing. We also got the Italian combo on focaccia bread, half a pound of the seafood and meat salad. Those had a little more flavor, but tasted standard to something you can get at any NY deli. There are too many deli’s and sandwich shops in NY to waste your time or calories here.

Can’t get to Italy right now? Come to the Bronx! Ask for Dave Greco! You will be fed like a principessa! Vegetarian? Bene! Ask for broccoli-rabe hot pepper sandwich. Bring 20 friends, ask Dave to set you up with a family style platter. Gioa di Vivere! to the max

This place never lets me down! I purchased the italian combo on a roll which has delicious fresh assorted italian meat and cheese with lettuce peppers and balsamic. Let me tell you this was amazinggggg!!! I also had a rice ball which was very good as well. This is my favorite deli on arthur ave period.

Kurt was making fresh Mozzarella this morning while I was passing by. He offered me a sample and it was amazing. Always fresh and delicious food at Mikes this is a must stop on Arthur ave.

The character behind the counter made something for me, which was a solid $ 10 sandwich(no cards allowed for 1 item even if it’s $ 10) but far from a 5-star experience so I’m a bit confused by the stellar history here, even if it was on TV(I prefer their coverage on this i-italy ep ). Also some very stale bread aka huge chunks of breadcrumbs near EVOO tastings. Skipped the Unilocal checkin special.

Mike’s Deli is hidden inside the Arthur Avenue Retail Market, along with a bunch of other deli counters, stores, and the Bronx Beer Hall. It is where I have had the best meatball sandwich of my life. The best meatballs, the best sauce, the best cheese, and the best bread all came together to form this lovely sandwich. I was floored, I did not expect a meatball sub to taste so good, but it did. This time when I visited, I waited patiently in line with a friend, listening to the great, old school Italian banter between the people working behind the counter making magic and the customers out front. We were handed a few samples of the fresh mozzarella being made behind the counter, and I melted at each bite. I was all set to get the fabled meatball sub again when the guy behind the counter showed us what he has just made for the customers in front of us and convinced me and my friend to get it, too. An Italian combo sub on a big round roll. Salami, mortadella, peppers, oil, vinegar, the works. $ 30 for the two of us total for a sandwich the size and shape of a giant Frisbee, and about 5 inches tall. Cut into fours, we each could only finish one of our two pieces because it was so big and so filling. It was delicious. My only complaint is that the bread that it was served on was a crustier bread, when I am much more a fan of softer breads like the focaccia bread that the meatball sub comes on. We grabbed a seat and chowed down, and I had a delicious and extremely high-sodium breakfast the next morning.

Some of the freshest cut meat goes into their sandwiches which is engulfed between a nice flaky hero. The selection on the menu is huge so you will be guaranteed to find something you like. Also a must… the rice ball with fresh mozzarella and Marana sauce, we had to take some home.

I just finished my junior year at Brown University(where I am majoring in Chinese and am planning to go to medical school upon graduation). I am home for the summer and my grandpa recommended that I go to Mike’s Deli for a bite. Heeding his advice, I went for the first time today and was truly impressed. I had their chicken parmigiana medium platter for my entrée. I apologize for the photo, but the dish smelt so good I started eating it immediately. After I had almost finished it, I decided to take a picture of what was the best chicken parmigiana I had ever eaten. I could taste the freshness of the mozzarella and tomato sauce(both of which were homemade) that beautifully complimented the poultry. For dessert I was in for a big surprise. David Greco, the owner of Mike’s Deli, had recently made food for the set of USA Network’s Royal Pains. Seeing I was eating alone, he asked if I would care to try his raspberry almond tart cake that was featured on the show. I obliged. The lines of raspberry were packed with flavor, and I particularly enjoyed the crunch the almonds provided. I had a great experience eating at Mike’s Deli and I will certainly be back.

I was wary of this place being a tourist trap, being in the Arthur Ave market and all, but the Michelangelo I had was probably the best sandwich I’ve eaten in a year. You can grab a seat at the Bronx Beer Hall in the middle of the market and order from this place, if you want sit down table service.

A bit pricey, and not enough veggie options, but the food is good. My uncle used to work there, and I miss the stand they used to have at Yankee Stadium. Wish it was still there. But the food is amazing. Located in Belmont, the heart of Little Italy, in the Bronx, this is located on Arthur Ave where you can find the Italian culture. My family is in this area, and grew up in this area, so I have always come here.

I finally made it to Arthur Ave. I read a number of suggestions and decided that we had to hit Mike’s Deli for a late lunch. My boyfriend and I each got a sandwich — he got the Italian and I got the proscuitto and mozzarella. I had read that we should try the rice ball too, so we ordered that as well(which was quartered with a slice of cheese on top… mmm). Wine you say? Sure… a nice house Chianti for me went perfectly with everything. The food was so delicious, but I also loved the staff and the overall vibe. They were super friendly… the guy behind the counter was joking around with us as my bf was wearing a Red Sox hat, and one of the ladies found us a table and brought our food to us. The only problem is I wanted to try more of the meats and cheeses they had in the deli counter… guess I’ll have to trek back to the Bronx!

Came here for a quick lunch. I loved the vibe — Italian family business that cares about the food. Surprising amount of seating in front considering it’s within a marketplace. There’s also a cute, private seating area upstairs(bathrooms are up there as well). Overall, I didn’t think my sandwich was great, it was good. I got one of their sandwich selections — Sweet Bird but w/roasted red peppers instead of sun dried tomatoes: turkey, smoked mozz(AWESOME) and roasted red peppers on focaccia. I prefer my focaccia a bit greasier and saltier but maybe that’s just me. It felt like it needed something else. Also had escarole & bean soup which was good but needed flavor/salt/pepper. Staff was friendly. There’s a metered parking lot across the street. This is definitely a cool cultural experience, especially when you’ve only been to the Little Italy in Manhattan.

Me and my husband wanted to stop by for olives, good food and anything in between. We went straight to the back to Mike’s Deli, everything looked freaking delicious and I tried to calm myself down but resorted to a broccoli rabe soup which was awesome. We sat down to eat our lunch and took in the sights. I got some olives to take home and my husband got soppresatta. Everybody was cool here. Listen… I like going to Little Italy down in the city, but I’m going to support The Boogie Down Bronx– anytime– hands down!!!

Best eats on the run along with amazing foods from Italy to take home. The eggplant parmigiano is award winning. The appetizer dish is exciting, adventurous and utterly delicious. The pasta dish with mushrooms will make you come back again and again. Authentic and served with love. Just go.

Mike’s Deli(signs also says Grieco’s) stuffed all the way in the back corner of the Arthur Avenue Market is a serious throwback to my childhood growing up in Manhattan’s Little Italy when stores like this abounded. Family businesses and traditions were handed down through the generations. Now they’re being replaced by trendy restaurants and hipster coffee bars. So it’s refreshing to still have a place where the fresh mozzarella is pulled out of the vats before your eyes and you can get a great homemade chicken or eggplant parmigiana sandwich on a crusty Italian hero. All the while, you hear Dave and the guys chatting up the customers and yelling orders back and forth. I’ve been here when it was both super busy & quiet, but the level of activity behind the counter is always the same, hectic & fast paced. Don’t miss their pizza rustica, focaccias or stuffed breads. Those & the hero sandwiches are perfect for a day of picnicking at the park or the nearby Bronx Zoo and Botanical Garden. If you can sneak some of Mike’s sandwiches into Yankee Stadium, more power to you. All the bleacher creatures will be drooling down your neck while you’re eating your sandwiches.
