Delicious food and amazing service! I got the ricotta salad and the Mac and cheese! They were prepared beautifully. The waiters are very friendly and the owner would talk to you and check on you from time to time. Highly recommended for a healthy and hearty meal! #itsalsokosher #whaaatttt

I recently moved to the area from California and I was happily surprised to find this local fare gem. I had their squash salad, which was delicious. The squash was soft yet crispy and the poached egg was perfectly runny. I am excited to try other things on their menu.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long while. I am all for locally run businesses that are farm to table. However, the service was terrible, and the food was just ok — certainly not worth the 40 minutes it took for our party to get it. To add insult to injury, almost every dish we ordered was wrong in some way. I’m sure the high ratings for this restaurant are due to the fact that Riverdale is literally and figuratively hungry for more places like this(locally run, non-National chain places). But overpriced just OK food with mediocre or bad service can’t pass for a 5 star place just because we have no other place like it. Moss Café, get your act together. Please.

I enjoyed my meal and will likely return but it is pricey and we had to wait a LONG time for our food. This place’s aesthetic is very Brooklynesque/Palm Springs(rustic, white, drift wood, chalkboards, succulents) and the prices match. We had three coffee drinks and three breakfast dishes and our order was $ 65. I think almost $ 15 for a bowl of grits with cheese, kale and 2 poached eggs is a bit overpriced but the food was delicious so maybe this is the kind of place I will save as a treat rather than a regular breakfast option. We had to wait over 40 minutes for our food — so while we waited I also purchased a gluten free/dairy free carrot quinoa muffin and it was delicious. With that said, something needs to happen in the kitchen because lots of other patrons were waiting a long time for their food.

Since moving to Riverdale last September, Moss Café is the place I’ve been frequenting the most. I come for dinner about once a week, and stop in for iced tea and the GF quinoa muffins a few times a week. To echo the other reviewers, the food is definitely creative, fresh and tasty. They can accommodate gluten free/vegan/etc. diets here pretty easily, which is GREAT for someone like me that needs to avoid gluten because of celiac. They’ve also been expanding their hours and menu which is awesome, and the only thing I hope is that they’ll offer more options(as good as the quinoa muffins are…) for GF and GF/DF baked goods soon!

This place is the best thing to happen to Riverdale since I want to say Starbucks — but it is so opposite to what Moss Café is– a small locally run business that caters to so many! I have celiac, and am always looking for knowledgeable and conscious places to eat, Moss Café is amazing! The food is always fresh, the staff is always courteous, and they always make sure to take extra care to not cross contaminate my food. They are also eco-conscious, and make sure to have the best local ingredients on hand. There is nothing like this in the area, and I am so thankful for it!

This review is for the baked eggs and toast I had this morning. I ordered at the counter and when my order was complete it was delivered to my table. I have ordered baked eggs three times in the past 2 weeks, these were not as good as the others. They were over done and more or less tasteless. Also, the toast was an extra $ 3.00 and were the rather poor coffee refills. There are way better places in Riverdale for breakfast.

Moss Café just does it right. Best café in the borough! Fantastic Craft Beer Options, Tea & Coffee is phenomenal. The food is exceptional! Pioneers to the traditional cultural Mom & Pop feel!

It’s nice to have a café with great quality food in the neighborhood. The food is original, tasty but overpriced. The person who took our order and the server were both noticeably not nice. They surprisingly let people sit with computers for hours which limits the available sit down space and is unusual for a somewhat pricey place. I would have given 3 stars but I gave the food more importance than the service and hope that the owners train the staff so the restaurant can be a success.

I have only tried the coffee(excellent!) But I plan on visiting Moss with regularity. It has a beautiful vibe and the food looks divine! I waited so long for a small coffee shop to open in Riverdale, and it has finally arrived :)

Outstanding food and quality service. My spouse and I eat breakfast every Friday at Moss Café, which is a gem of a café. We also stop in regularly for incredibly delicious coffee and out-of-this-world Gluten-Free quinoa muffins throughout the week. The food, service, variety of coffee and FRESH foods are superb. Their expanded menu has something for everyone. Highly recommend. A+++

Yum. I love the food from this place. The portions are not huge but perhaps thats a good thing… I always leave feeling refreshed and not in a food coma which I appreciate. The food is creative and delicious I can’t say enough good stuff about it. But more important than the food is the people. We had a small mistake with our order and the owner, Emily personally addressed it. Her response was not one of a business owner looking to protect their reputation but a human being who wanted to make another human happy — I wish we had more menshlechkiet this around! Great food, great people… an A+!

Stopped in on my trip through the Bronx. The atmosphere is really hipster, but it was great. I had an iced latte… I don’t think they serve iced coffee. Not sure why. Anyhow, worth the stop. Cool spot, wish I had more time to percolate there.

Amazing carrot muffins with walnuts, can they really be gluten free? Very attentive and pleasant staff, too. Almost a 5-star, but the price is a bit of a drawback. I understand the owners are using fair-trade coffee, etc., so will definitely go back and support them as much as I can.

After studying here for a few hours, I am madly in love with this place. This is EXACTLY what Riverdale needed. The mocha was strong and chocolatey, and the savory bowl was nourishing and tasty. Although a little busy in the morning, this was an extremely comfortable place to study/eat/chill. A little expensive, yes, but so so so worth it. Big thanks to Emily for bringing this into existence!!!

Love this place! Great ambience, friendly staff, beautiful layout of the place, and tasty food. I went in for a cold brew today and was not disappointed. It’s nutty and sharp, doesn’t even need milk or sweeteners. I will be returning for Sunday brunch this weekend!

Today, June 1, 2015 Moss Café opened. The website gives you the menu for the breakfast, lunch and dinner items as well as the coffee and baked goods choices. There are coffee shops in Riverdale, but none like this kosher, locally sourced food one. This morning I had a rhubarb and thyme scone with a coffee. A refreshing change from the offerings in the other places near here.
