Sammy’s Shrimp Box Restaurant

Doesn’t live up to the hype. Although they give you large portions of food the food is lacking flavor. I had the fried combo that came with scallops, shrimps, fish, and calamari. I personally wouldn’t recommend that platter if you’re expecting a lot of shrimp unfortunately only three shrimps came with my platter and a few scallops. The shrimps and scallops were decent but I didn’t enjoy the calamari (which they give you loads of) or the fish. On the plus side they do severe complementary breads, yellow rice and veggies for the table but you pay for within the pricing of the food. Not too sure if there will be a next time for me

This place can not handle big parties! If you have a big party, don’t even consider it. Everyone’s food came out 1 table at a time and 10 mins until the next table. The first table was done before the last got their food.
I requested grilled fish with no butter, no sauce, just grilled. My fish came out swimming in butter and garlic. I managed to get the waiter’s attention and told him I requested no sauce, he replied «it’s just butter» yeah, about ½ a cup for 1 small price of fish! I asked for a new one with no butter. It took another 30 minutes for them to grill a new piece of fish.
I ordered chicken fingers and fries for my daughter. The breaking was so hard I could have broken a tooth on it
The only good thing about this place is the fresh bread and pickles

I went here for my birthday weekend with my family on January 30^th and it was horrible. We waited a long time for our food and when we received our food it was room temperate, it was dry and badly seasoned. Our waiter had no recommendations he never checked on us. I will never return and I have informed everyone I’ve come in contact with that its not the place to be. I came here on the recommendation of friends and I had to inform them that what they’re use to isn’t what this place is now.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My boyfriend and I made the mistake of going to sammys shrimp box instead of FISH box. The owner was in the parking lot telling people go to shrimp box it’s the same etc etc. NO ITS NOT THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE. It was horrible. We ordered the jumbo shrimp meal and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. Mozzarella sticks were ok but the shrimp Was disgusting. It came with rice and corn and I had the pasta as a side. Ok first of all all the food needed salt. It needed some seasoning, it needed something ! The pasta taste like they just boiled it and put it on the plate no flavor no nothing. Corn taste like shit. Rice had no flavor. It was just bad. Don’t go here. Just don’t. It was my first time at city island and I was just expecting something so much different.

Everything was great. Service was attentive and timed perfectly. My son had southern fried chicken and said it was the best he ever had. The fried seafood was delicious and cooked to perfection. Definitely worth a visit.

My first favorite restaurant spot in city island. Steaks are A plus and all seafood is just perfect, I usually order shrimp boxes «Our feast for 2 «my favorites are Italian Feast, Ultimate seafood feast and the Crab and lobster feast. Steak the Chicago style bone in. My drink Pina Colada.

I always enjoy coming to this restaurant. Is it worth the trek from queens– I’ll just say this. If you like large portions and bang for you buck (when it comes to seafood).YES.
Fried shrimp and whiting are delicious but I’m leaning towards broiled scallops and shrimp. Those were so good without the guilt. Entrees come with salad, yellow rice and corn. Loaf of bread, cornbread and cheese are offered as well.
Over all an enjoyable experience. I would def recommend it.

Awesome deal if you’re really looking to chow down on some seafood! Value was worth it! We ordered the combo with 1 pound lobster, king crab legs, snow crab legs, chefs special crab legs, and 5 JUMBO shrimp (they were MASSIVE)! The plate was so big and beautifully displayed. It was served on top of a bed of yellow seasoned rice and 3 – 4 corn on the cobs! So damn good! Oh btw my drink of choice before I ate so I chose the strawberry daiquiri and asked them to mix the banana flavor (oh em gee !) had a great experience here!

I had a very pleasant «Brunch» at Sammy’s on a Sunday. We went early before all the riff-​raff would start rolling in (as my Bronx-​born friend suggested). It was my first visit to City Island and we randomly chose Sammy’s as we made our way down City Island Ave. Got there around 11:30am on a mild August Sunday. The commute there on the 6, then Bx29 wasn’t bad either. What a night park, Pelham Bay Park is.
Sammy’s Lunch Special was a great deal, only available Mondays-​Saturdays 11:30am-3:30pm & Dine-​In only. The free bread and pickles platter was AWESOME. How many times can you say that you had Excellent corn bread from a Seafood restaurant? And homemade chewy bread and pickled veggies (cauliflower, carrots, celery, peppers), with triangle of cheddar cheese stabbed on top.
I got the Steamed King Crab Legs ($ 38.99) Lunch Special with came with a choice of white or red clam chowder or Salad, Baked potato or Fries or Plantains or Rice, Coffee or Tea, and a Dessert. Friend got the BBQ Chicken Lunch Special ($ 15.99) and the Homemade Fruit Punch. The Punch was Awesome, she said– expecting to be disappointed with a packaged Kool-​Aid version– it was not.
We sat outside in the front, with nice shade from the umbrellas. There were already families and couples dining outside when we got there, pretty empty inside. But extremely clean (all that woodwork!).
** The only thing I can recommend is, PLEASE! get more Bathrooms! ** I’m not sure if there were more bathrooms in the back, but the waiters only directed me to the single bathroom in the front. Who needs someone banging on the door while you’re in the bathroom? It happened to m friend too. For a giant restaurant, probably seating 120+, I hope there are more bathrooms hidden around.

Came here on a Friday night and the place was jumpin’! It was nice to see so many people out enjoying themselves. For a first timer like me, the menu was INSANE. I didn’t think I was ever going to make a decision! Everything sounded so good! I finally chose the twin lobster tails; excellent choice! They were cooked to perfection and the salad that came with it was very fresh and tasty. My only complaint was that we were seated in the very back right next to the waiters station. It wouldn’t have been a big deal had they not been so ridiculously loud & obnoxious. A few of them were having a crude convo, I definitely didn’t need to hear that. But the food was so good I’m going to overlook that. Our waiter was amazing. He checked in enough so that he was attentive but not too much that he was being a stalker. Can’t wait to come back and start my long trek through that menu!

OVERPRICED!
Don’t get me wrong. I will gladly spend a pretty penny on a good meal, but I repeat — a GOOD meal. What I got at Sammy’s was nowhere near that — mediocre, at best.
The food was all warm/​cold when we got it. I have no clue how that’s possible since my clams were burnt.
But what made the evening a total waste of time was the service. I worked as a waitress through college and never have I been so inattentive to my section of FOUR tables.
My boyfriend (also former waiter) complained to the manager and his response was «Maybe you’ll get a better server next time.»

OMG, this place is amazing! We went on a Saturday night and were seating quick. They serve every table with complimentary bread, cheese, olives, bread, rice and veggies and salad which is a lot of food. Then comes your main entrée. We ordered the coconut shrimp which were the best we’ve ever had! The jumbo shrimp is so sweet and delicious, can’t wait to go back and order it again! We also ordered the sole fish which was so tender. The entrees also come with a side, we chose tostones which were good. The meal was delicious! It was a lot of food, we ate half our new and took the rest home. Can’t wait to go again!

Took a friend to City Island for a birthday celebration yesterday. Instead of going to our usual restaurant, I made the recommendations of going to Sammy’s Shrimp Box. Why? The birthday celebrant wanted shrimp and because the Sammy’s franchise has a monopoly of restaurants (Fish/​Lobster/​Shrimp), I thought this restaurant would have a wide selection of shrimp dishes. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE!
Entered the empty establishment (7:30pm, most customers were eating outdoors), we were seated across from the restroom. PERHAPS THIS WAS A SIGN!
I ordered shrimp with calamari and a baked potato. I received day old shrimp and breaded RUBBERBANDS, My first baked potato was burnt, and it’s replacement was grey inside and mealy in texture.
The complimentary rice and vegetables were tasteless.
I paid my bill and gave our server an unearned 15% tip. I JUST WANTED OUT!
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Perhaps they are serving Sammy’s Fish Box inventory leftovers.

I LOVE IT HERE. The best food ever ! Words cant express how many times I have been here and how many times my experience was always 100% on the money. The food is AMZAE-​BALLS. I always get the broiled lobster ! Its sooo tasty. And you get sooo much food you will end up taking some home. For drinks I always get a pitcher of Red Sangria. The white sangria wasnt that good. But the Red is awesome. Very strong too. They have the most authentic seafood I have ever tasted. I will always be a returning customer !!

Me and my friends traveled out to City Island to enjoy the surrounding area. We were greeted by a rude hostess who seemed bothered that we asked for a table of 4.
The only pleasant experience about this restaurant was the service and complimentary bread and cheese platter.
Mussels were sandy, calamari was over cooked, shrimp bang-​bang was cold and the ribs were fatty and the BBQ sauce was bland.
Drinks were really strong but we’re not made well and over priced just like the rest of the items on the menu.
Would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a good inexpensive bite to eat on City Island.

Out of all the restaurants in city island this one is located at the very end of the island. It’s recently renovated because it got burnt down during hurricane Sandy. It is not the fanciest out of all the restaurants around but I feel it has the best fried seafood, I repeat FRIED seafood not grilled. They have indoors and ourdoors seating which is perfect for the summer time but be careful with the seagulls as there are literally an army of them, waiting to eat your food. I honestly love to come here for their fried calamari. They are to DIED for, specially paired with the sauce they come with. I also enjoy ordering Their grilled convo #3 which brings calamaris, lobster, and other grilled seafood drenched in a garlic sauce.
When it comes to the seating and time. Have in mind that in the summer time you better come with plenty of time in your hands specially on Sundays. A huge line of cars will be out even before crossing the bridge to get into the island, so pleaseeeee consider this because you will starve! Lol
Finally, I cannot forget to mention their drink Top Passion. It is absolutely amazing and IT WILL GET YOU DRUNK with only one cup! Lol

Great atmosphere. Wait staff, and servers were excellent. I ordered The Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. The shrimp was great. The cocktail sauce delicious. You could really taste the horse radish. Unfortunately my food was not hot, when it arrived at the table.

I wish i could give this place more stars but I cannot. There are several Sammy’s, so if you go make sure it is the right location.
I came here after my nephews baptism and we were a big party, approximately 16. I understand there was a lot going on but, I was not too impressed.
I had to ask for my water FOUR times. My coconut mojito was sent back because it was nothing but coconut syrup added into my drink… diabetes much? All I wanted was a glass of water, which should have been on the table… and it took over 20 minutes and 3 different people, once of whom was a manager.
I had the chicken parmesan which was absolutely amazing. SO flavorful and the portions were huge! Definitely worth the $ 22.99. However, the pasta that came with it was NOT GOOD AT ALL. Hard, no flavor, terrible marinara sauce.
Lastly, she did not ask us if we needed the checks to be split. Luckily I indicated this upon ordering my food however, there were several different people paying since some had kids, others were themselves, couples etc. Seeing such a big party one would think to ask or confirm payment before putting it all on one check and then saying it is impossible to split it.

I’m usually a fan of Sammy’s but I never went to this one. I always go to the one across the street (side of the parking lot).
They started with the bread, cheese, cron bread and vegetable platter. Gosh, it was horrible. The cheese was very spongy and just bland. We decided to go with the crab & lobster feast. Everything on the plate seemed so greasy.
Overall the experience wasn’t great at all. Please go to the one across the street Sammy’s Fish Box.
