Slim McGinn’s Irish Pub

Stopped in for the Monday night wing special and was told by the waitress that they were all out of wings. Me and my girlfriend were pretty bummed that they were out of wings as we went out of our way to come in for the special but made the best of it and ordered a burger, and chicken strips. While we were waiting for our food, 2 other people sitting near us ordered wings after the same waitress told us they were out. I have no idea whether it was just a honest mistake or what but the fact that other patrons, who seemed to be regulars, were served wings after we were told they were out, was a little upsetting. The food we ordered was good and for being a small pub/​restaurant the service wasn’t bad, but the experience I had today is only worth 2 stars.

This was our first visit on a Friday nite at 5:30.
It was packed and after we received our meals I understood why. I had the fish sampler (cod shrimp perch bluegill) with generous portion of real home made fries. My wife had the ½lb. build your own cheeseburger with home made chips. The fish batter was a little peppery but not over powering and complemented the dish and the burger done to perfection. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive and with a wide variety of craft beers it was just about a perfect night. Another go to pub just a few short blocks from home.

On night they serve crab you should give it a whirl. Loyal for years but sometimes you just need a change in scenery. Seem to have loyal patrons although I’m not quite sure why. Food is a 4. Crab on some nights is a 5. Overall score is a 3… Similar to O’Donahue’s in Elm Grove. Prefer O’Donahue’s because patrons and staff seem friendlier at least to me. The Social Haus up the road on Lisbon has been a new diversion.

Only go to drink. Went for dinner and was charged $ 2.50 for each soda and iced tea refill. Yikes – beer is cheaper: o (

I have been to this establishment twice. The first time, food was great! I ordered the irish philly. Over heaping with beef, cheese oozing out. A ton of homemade chips. A similar story with my husband’s tenderloin sandwich. we felt the prices were a good value. Time number 2, i ordered the same sandwich, different story. There was about ½ the meat. I don’t think i ever found the cheese, and it was dry compared to the first time. Also way less chips. The thing we were really put off with was they do not offer free refills on soft drinks. We go out a fair amount and i can’t recall any other place doing this. my husband had 3 diet cokes at 2.25 each. Really? Ouch!!! 6.75? do you know how much diet coke i can buy for that? the least they could do is post that on their menu. they also could tell you when ordering soda #2 that refills are not free. i can see a limit of 2 or 3. we had 2 sandwiches, 2 beers, 3 diet cokes. with tip our check was $ 48. a little much for an irish pub. we can do better.

We have always been very happy at slims and the food and wait staff are great. Just went for the fish fry on Friday. We had the perch and we were disappointed in the amount of fish… it seems as if they are skimping a little compared to previous fish gets we have been at.

We love slims. Great employees and food. Love their monthly beer specials, taco Tuesdays and they make the best old fashions…

Pretty much the best tacos on the planet. Tuesday nights and you get 6 for like $ 3.50

Fish fry and a beer. Food was okay and the service was excellent. Just remember that it is still a BAR first. Restaurant is an afterthought. Quite a few drunk regulars. Had some young guys with me and they get some «new words» ha. We will go back.

Great food and even better service sweetest staff! !!! BTB melt was delicious as well as the blue potatoes to start with!!!

Let’s ignore the TV in the corner with such bad color you’d be better off with a B&W console. Instead, let’s focus on the horrible service. Had to ask twice for a glass of water, Caesar salad came out with meal, and no cocktail napkins or coasters with the drinks.
Wife waited 10 minutes for her Guinness and wasn’t offered a chaser with her bloody mary. I understand that things happen and things can get missed, but you need to acknowledge a mistake has been made. After asking that I not be charged for my salad, I was told…“They were put in together, so that’s how they come out.” Not cool. In fairness, the salad was taken off the bill, but only after I told her…“That’s not the way that’s supposed to work.” A couple of additional notes: food was good, and there was a younger server (redhead) that was perfectly nice, though she wasn’t our server, and it was her first day.
Bad service can only exist if we let it!

3 stars (when it’s not during a Packer game). I really like the location because it’s close to home. Food is good and reasonably priced. Service is always spotty (unless you’re a regular or business is slow).

Great cozy irish pub. You’re be surprised how great foods are even though it is a small restaurant. I like their wings with asian sauce. It always comes with hot and fresh. I also like their home made chips. If you’re sports fan you will love this place because they have plenty of tvs. I usually come here lunch hour and there are plenty of seats.

Awesome food for a great price! Me and my family go often for their Friday fish fries and I’m always recommending the place to friends!
The place is often busy but I don’t mind. The employees are very friendly and are quick to accommodate. I was there with someone with many food allergies and they had no problem changing things to make sure the food was safe for him.

Neighborhood bar and grill. Like going to this place for a quick lunch. They have a great corned beef. But their Irish Dip is what you want to get. Great comfort food when you want it. Love the service. They are very friendly and get your order quickly. I am usually in a hurry when I eat there and they get the food their quickly.

We’re never disappointed at slims. Jules makes a great dirty martini. All the food is good especially the Reuben and mozzarella sticks. Atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. Their fish fry is also really good.

Food is good but at the end of the meal we find out soft drinks do NOT have free refills. We spent 20 dollars in diet coke. This is unacceptable. We will never go again!

Always a favorite local lunch spot. Great salads, you’ve got to try the Reuben Salad. The rest of their food is pretty good and reasonably priced as well. Service was decent, but nothing spectacular.

This place really seems to attract the lunch crowd (specifically, the lunch crowd from the Kohl’s lemmings). I went here for a work /​lunch outing. It was crowded and just from the parking lot (I had to squeeze into a spot around back) I knew it was trouble from the get-​go. I really didn’t see much on their menu I thought I would like — I went the safe route and wound up with the grilled cheese. Imagine my disappointment when it came to the table cold, with cold fries on the side. (granted, I was with a group of 10, but still — no excuse). I wound up getting a glass of plain tap water, because they were out of the iced tea. Our server was friendly, but overworked with the lunch crowd. Overall I left hungry and I felt disgusting after. The grilled cheese was flat and pretty tasteless. I wouldn’t go here again, much less during their busy times.
