Bakery By The Sea delivers excellent baked goods, especially for such a small town. Try the maple long john doughnuts-they are incredible-soft and pillowy dough, and excellent maple flavor– and honestly, I’m not the biggest doughnut fan! My husband loves the bear claws and Danishes. Oh, and if you are a savory fan, try the ham and cheese pastries. They are mouth-wateringly awesome. My only two suggestions for improvement are these: 1) open for more days/hours, and 2) the ability to use a debit/credit card for purchases under $ 10. I understand it’s a small business, but there is so little competition here that I think if they did decide to stay open for more days/hours, they would get plenty of business. I would also shop there more frequently if I could use a card without having to take cash out every time or buy more than $ 10 worth when we only want a couple of things. But otherwise, wow.

We were very impressed with this place. Friendly service and large selection of baked goodies. We especially loved that there were savory items as well as sweets. Next time we are in Brookings we will certainly stop here again!

Wonderful cute little bakery. Arrived late in the day and bought a pecan tart and lemon tart right out of the oven. Both were wonderful. After chatting with the owner he threw in a warm pesto roll which was also amazing. This is a must visit if you’re in the area.

Finally! Someone who makes an Apple Fritter that tastes like and has apples in it. I’m a bit confused as to comments about lack of choice. The racks were full pastries, croissants(chocolate, plain, ham ‘n cheese) donuts, breads and cakes on a mid Saturday morning. Small and crowded is hardly a deterrent in enjoying these baked delights.

There’s not much choice in Brookings, so we decided to try this bakery. We purchased an apple fritter a bread pudding coffee cake and a maple bar. The Apple fritter had good flavor, but it wasn’t fried very crispy. The bread pudding coffee cake was unusual and not our favorite. The maple bar was pretty good, but a little heavy for a donut. Friendly staff, We will try some other things next time we are in town.

I do not recommend this bakery for wedding cakes. They finished the cake 45 min late, the cake tiers were reversed(chocolate instead of vanilla and vice versa), the rolls for my reception were molded(partly). The one who was supposed to set up and decorate my cake passed it off to the baker(who did a beautiful job and in fact the decoration was the only thing correct). The dowel rods were left at the shop so tooth picks were used and my guest were stabbed in the gums with them. They forgot the box for the top tier. The buttercream icing tasted like a stick of butter. All in all I do not recommend this bakery for your special event. I ordered a three tier cake that was completely wrong and rolls that were molded. I had to purchase my own chocolate shells for the cake as well. Very disappointed in my cake and extremely embarrassed that my guest at my wedding were stabbed in the gums and ate molded rolls.

Stopped in for a quick donut to go along with our coffee and was surprised to find that the spot is actually inside the building front down a long corridor painted like the beach. Friendly gal showed us what they had. Not alot to choose from but all fresh. Wife got the bear claw which was good and almondy like it should. I got a glazed donut with berry cream filling. It was clean and gooey but lacked a little kick in the cream. Overall it was good but nothing to knock my socks off.

Everything they make is wonderful. Great variety and really tasty small pies, and other goodies you can eat on the way back to the motel.

I am shocked if this place is closed up like Unilocal suggests. I live in Brookings and they were open last weekend? They are only open Fridays-Sundays regularly. This place is fantastic and reasonable.

If it’s hard to find, just look for the line of people waiting to get their hands on this guys baked goods. We were driving through, but we manged to buy donuts and tarts and bread and they were great, even a day later. Worth a trip through Bookings just to stop by the bakery. Just make sure it’s Friday-Sunday.

Brookings was the last stop on our Oregon Coast vacation… and I must say, my hubby and I were about to pass up this sleep little non-descript town… when I happened to stop and chat with a few locals.(Sometimes if pays to have a big mouth) I walked into this tiny little hard-to-find bakery and my eyes immediately glazed over like some of their pastires. Everything looked wonderfu! l And if you’ve been to enough bakeries, you can just«smell» the freshness. I was overwhelmed and begged my hubby to help. Then came the samples. WOW. We passed up our usual comfort foods for a fabulous pecan tart.(Don’t call it a pie… you will be corrected ;-) Unfortunately I had just purchased bread, but was delighted to try some of their delicious samples. One last thing that made this visit complete for me was loitering a bit and listening to the chit-chat coming from the mother-son baking team as they checked the oven and rolled out more dough. The whole scene transported me back to my own childhood as I helped my Swedish mother in her big country kitchen. May this small family-run business enjoy many years of sweet success. Five stars for five extra pounds… and well worth it!

A little«hole in the wall» bakery with 30 something son baking and decorating and mom at the counter. He is indeed a gifted baker and pastry chef! Only open 3 days a week, Friday through Sunday 6am-4pm. We have enjoyed his Italian ciabatta bread and his challah egg bread as well as the cinnamon raisin bread. Love those wonderful croissants filled with ham and cheese, sticky buns, pecan tarts, apple fritters and I could go on and on. What a plus for a little town in southern Oregon! If you have a sweet tooth or just love good bread, this is definitely the place to be.

Stopped here after searching Unilocal for somewhere to grab a bite to eat on the way out of town. This bakery did NOT disappoint. The service was awesome and the mom and son team were a joy to talk to. The pastries were superb and amazingly fresh and the hot apple fritters were a cross between crunch and chewy and just plain awesome. Thinking about making more trips to Brookings just to get pastries! The baker should definately make this his full time job and open a few more days during the week! The would make a killing!

I like this place a lot. I went here early this year while on a 2-week long road trip from Los Angeles to all the major cities on the west coast, including Vancouver, Canada. I loved how their pastries tasted fresh. I also loved how you could see the staff making all of the pastries from behind the counter. They have a very wide, and open layout from which they prepare their food In addition to that, parking was easy, and it was conveniently located next to their touristy areas. So if you are visiting, come inside and taste their food. So, what I got was a chocolate croissant, and some other pastry that they indicated was a popular one with customers. I enjoyed both of them because of their freshness, taste, and because they were cheap. I love supporting small mom and pop stores, and this one is definitely one of them. So, I hope you come and visit, and see for yourself how great their pastries are. One thing to keep in mind: this place is very small, there is only enough room for 2 – 3 customers inside to order from their counter. From what I’ve seen, the lines tend to go pass their front door. So the down side is that you cannot eat here. Lastly, they are very friendly here. Enjoy!

More info on the bakery: It’s a family business that has been in Brookings for the last three years, in other places for longer. Luke, the son, has taken on the reigns on baking. His mom works the register. We were lucky enough to be there when a new baked good came off the line — french bread stuffed with prosciutto and cheese. Best idea ever, Luke. We were sold on the samples and ordered one for our own. Bran muffins taste anything but healthy, so seconds and thirds were ordered for the road. A second visit reaffirmed my earlier conclusions! This bakery is awesome. It’s definitely worth a stop when you’re driving through Brookings.

OK, so their display case is small but ask for what’s fresh! We stopped there and had fresh(hot out of the oven) bear claws in all their glazy, sticky, ooey-gooey, almondy goodness. So wonderful! The chocolate croissant is also amazing, though probably much better fresh out of the oven. They are open Fri, Sat and Sundays at 6AM. I can’t wait to get back over to Brookings to get some goodies again…

These are some of the best pastries from the nicest people. Fresh, Hot, Awesome! We are addicted. The bismarks, apple fritters and chocolate filled croissants are fantastic. And the bread! Wow! Even the ham and cheese croissants are wonderful. My favorite is when Luke pulls out the apple fritters and glazes them and you get it fresh and hot — too hot to eat! This family really pours their love into their work and definitely work very hard. Their shop is a portion of the kitchen from the old bakery in town. I’m glad to see it used in such a yummy way. I just wish that they weren’t so addictive — going on Friday and Saturday mornings most weeks is killing me! :-)
