Wow, this place thinks it is as good as it looks but I beg to differ! Sat at he bar on a Thursday night with a mild crowd and was not even acknowledged for what seemed like forever, but turned out to be 17minutes from arrival at my seat at the bar. Once I finally got my drink order in and was given a menu, I had to flag someone down to order. I had a bad feeling about the place from the poor service and this manager type guy that came into the bar ever so often and barked orders at the bartenders. I just ordered the risotto of the day — if they can get that right, then I would trust the food would follow suit. Well they got it wrong… very wrong! Crunchy, runny, salty, not even close to risotto. It was uncooked rice with gravy! Gross!!! Besides being overpriced and crap food, they didn’t ever care to ask me how it was until I signed my check and started to leave with only one bite of risotto taken from the plate. Looks like the atmosphere is supposed to sell the place and to them, that must be enough to keep the doors open! Sad excuse for a tavern!

Husband and I came back here after I neglected to finish making a reservation on OpenTable at The Fireplace(the internet can be so tricky). Given our past two experience, we were apprehensive at best; we were also starving so we decided to give it a whirl. We were both thrilled with the gamble. The meal lineup was as follows: * Red wine special(something from Walla Walla, Washington) * Thai coconut curry mussels special appetizer to split * For me: Chicken with mushroom stuffing * For him: Duck cassoulet with bacon, sausage, cabbage and white beans * Whisky for dessert Absolutely everything we had was absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. I’m not sure if the chef changed or what happened but the food was on point. We sat at the bar so I can’t speak to the waitstaff but the bartenders were awesome. The only reason this wasn’t a 5-star experience was that there isn’t any dessert available aside from the liquid variety. Now, that’s not to say the whiskys we had as recommendations weren’t outstanding — they were and this place has an outstanding libation library. Washington Square Tavern, consider yourself fully and completely redeemed.

Great food! I’ve been here 4 or 5 times in the last 2 months and have tried something new each time, I have yet to be disappointed. They have a great wine and beer selection The wine specials are always delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place

My favourite restaurant in all of Boston & Brookline! The food is always fresh and excellent with a rotating menu. Also the owner/manager is the nicest person. Any time we get out for date night we always go here.

I don’t usually get across the river but this place might bring me over more often. I’ve heard good things and was in the area so decided to give it a try. Loved the lay out and décor, the bookcase with a window into the kitchen was a cool touch. They have a good beer list but the food was amazing. Fried oysters sliders were a perfect start. If there is duck on the menu I order it and this was one of the best duck confit I’ve ever had, it was perfectly cooked with skin nice and crispy. It also came with duck sausage(made in house I was told) that was like nothing I’ve ever had. The service was great and they make a solid margarita. The only knock I have is that it was a little too dark to read the menu but that seems to be the norm or maybe I’m just getting old. I’ll definitely be back.

Awesome place! Came here for the first time with my family. Everything was great — service, food, drinks, atmosphere. I tried everyone’s plates and literally every dish was amazing. Love it and can’t wait to come back.

The only reason I haven’t posted the review earlier is because it’s hard enough to get a seat there as is :):) With all the new good restaurants opening in Washington Square, this one remains our favorite. We are regulars here, have tried pretty much every dish on the menu, and are yet to be disappointed. The food is always on point. They use only«in season» ingredients, most often from local farmers and markets. Whether we want fish, vegetarian, or meat — always fresh of best quality ingredients and always perfectly cooked packed with flavors!!! The wine is a whole different experience. Jerry, the owner, is the true wine connoisseur. Wine selection is fantastic. They have many good inexpensive choices and the pairing suggestions on the menu are always good. The bartenders are super cool, super friendly and know what they are doing. The place is a bit hectic, always packed, not super organized — a typical local favorite. We are lucky to live around the corner.

Tonight my friend and I stopped by to have a drink and maybe an appetizer. The place was packed we didn’t see the hostess, however we saw two empty spots by the bar area. As we were to be seated some guy from the cross table shouted if we were having dinner or just drinks. We told him drinks and appetizer he said there was waiting lists and we should check in with the hostess. So we did, the hostes said we could sit there, but then she changed her mind and said we couldn’t. Very disappointed and frustrated by wishy washy management. Manger probably kept the two spots for his exclusive friends. Yikes.

Sometimes, a review needs depth, and strong content; a beautiful, poetic narrative that places you in the heart of the experience and weaves a story so enthralling, you’re powerless to escape. And sometimes, you just need to say: the dry aged, house-ground burger with Irish cheddar and bacon. $ 15.50. Ask for extra napkins, and malt vinegar for the fries.

2 stars because the food was pretty good. I had the chicken, and my friends had the specials of short ribs, and bass. We all thought the food was good. Here comes the but… WhenI go to a place where I am paying ~30 $ for an entrée, I expect a certain level of service, which was just not there. First off, we had to wait for our table, which was fine. They told us 15min, please enjoy a drink at the bar. We were there for about 30 mins but still was seated. We were a party of 4. A couple walked in and I noticed was immediately seated at a table that would clearly fit 6 people. It was clearly a fuck-up because when we came up, the host had an «oh shit» on his face. We finally was seated 45 min into this.(Mind you, no apology from the host). I ordered wine but was promptly told they had ran out. Would have been fine, but I was a bit irritated at this point. We ordered an appetizer but we had to call again so we can put in our main order. 3 of us ordered the bass special. 15 min after, we were told, there is only 1 portion of bass left, we can either order something else, or have snapper instead. It was just one after another and, it made for an irritating evening. Thankfully, we had good company, which saved the evening. I will not be going back.

This place looked cute and was well-reviewed, but if you’re charging $ 14 for a burger it should ideally be delicious but at baseline should at least be on the good end of the spectrum, and this one was not. We started with the burrata appetizer, which was served as a pleasant caprese although there was not enough bread. Then the burger. The patty was overwhelmed but a giant bun but was quite thick. The single thin layer of cheese had no chance to be noticed against those proportions. However, the worst part was how DRY the food was. The meat literally crumbled. There was no fat to it and it caused a horrible dessicating sensation in the mouth. The fries were dry as well. I had to take to smothering mayo on both them and the burger just for texture. I couldn’t even finish the burger because the patty was burnt at the bottom and crumbled apart, and I regret ever ordering it. For the same price we could have gotten at least two burgers somewhere else and probably would have enjoyed them more. Our neighbor’s entrees looked great, and I’m sure there’s a reason for the high ratings, but there’s just no excuse for a bad burger.

I’ve been here twice since moving back to Brighton and I’m a fan. They have a great craft beer selection which is always a good thing. And although their menu is pretty small, their food is quite good. My first time coming here I got the surf and turf special. The steak and shrimp were both great and everyone in our four party group came away very impressed with the food. My wife got a chicken breast dish with a mushroom rissoto and loved it.(I spelled rissoto wrong). In the second trip, I split the clam chowder with my wife, we both enjoyed it tremendously and I also got the burger. The burger was cooked the way I wanted it and very tasty. Definitely wasn’t a frozen patty. My one complaint which isn’t even a huge deal because I could have just asked for more was that the ketchup was in a tiny cup. But I was able to get by without it. Not like I’d knock a star off for it. But don’t go in here thinking it’s going to be this top end restaurant that you’d find downtown. And also don’t come in here thinking you’re going to grab a beer and watch the game. There are no tv’s. If you want a local spot to grab something for dinner that has great food, craft beer and I’m told great martini’s then check this place out.

In my ongoing efforts to try every notable burger in Boston, WST turns out a decent example, with house-ground dry-aged beef, blue cheese and grilled onions, tomato, lettuce, medium rare, although it would have been much better with a more interesting bun. Good fries. Tried a couple of bites of the gnocchi with asparagus and morels, which was tasty. Interesting, reasonably priced wine list, and we enjoyed the bottle of an Italian Aglianico that they recommended(not by the wine-loving owner, Gerry, who wasn’t in) for $ 55. An attractive bar/restaurant with a pubbie feel, not too loud either. Not terribly big, but easy to get seats at 6PM on a Thursday but packed by 7:30 when we were leaving. Afterwards, went to ATHAN’S bakery across the street(never been there) for some chocolate baklava, which I have heard is good, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Wanted to try this place out and yep, it’s a keeper. Started with the house charcuterie plate, could never go wrong with that. Ordered the corn and zucchini fritters, and the veal and blue cheese bratwurst, it sounds exactly what you would expect. Love your meaty, and juicy burgers; dry aged burger with bacon is a must!!! Accompanied with grilled asparagus I’d come back just for the burger and drinks. It’s a bar but I love their cute décor and environment.

As the name suggests, located in Washington Square of Brookline and a quick few steps off the Green Line — C Branch(Washington Street). Everything Sunday brunch should be. The atmosphere is cozy and dark. Come early for a relaxing start to the day. Brunch is served from 10AM to 2PM. Eggs and meat are a must for Sunday morning. If you are moderately hungry, recommend the omelette(if available, was the week’s special), buttery and guessing three eggs. This kale and swiss omelette paired nicely with home fries, fruit and toast. If you are very hungry, get the Irish breakfast with choice of egg style, a smörgåsbord of meats(country ham and two kinds of sausage), beans, home fries, fruit, and toast. The beans are light on sauce, smoky and flavorful. Libations also available(recommend the house bloody mary). A warm thank you to the staff for opening during a blizzard!

Dark and relaxed dinning in an old school tavern with in-house butchered meats. That’s the tag-line but read-on for more deets. The burger, as mentioned is awesome. However, I highly recommend the pork products. They tend to get a whole hog every now and then so whether it’s the pork belly/bacon for brunch or on your burger, or the pork tenderloin — check it out. Surprisingly the vegetarian options are pretty robust – and I’m not just talking«butternut squash soup». Their salads are exciting and varied. Two words not usually associated with salads. If they have Burrata on the menu – GETIT. Immediately. You’ll think it was flown strait from Italia. They prices are fair to borderline expensive for a tavern. But the atmosphere is legit and so is the food. The drinks and drink selection are nothing to shake a stick at, either.
