I ordered delivery thru : ½ a roast crescent duck w jasmine rice & lobster dumplings. In short, they forgot the jasmine rice and they gave me chicken dumplings. The duck was bland and too lean. The accompanying spicy plum sauce and compote were pretty average. I don’t like ground or cubed chicken, so out of principal, I wasn’t a fan. All chicken needs to be fried or come with a matzoh ball. I have no problem with ; they were expedient and kept me up to date, and their customer service does take care of problems. The total bill was $ 76, which included the tip, tax and delivery fee. A very expensive lesson. Just go to Chinatown/Sunset Park. Tastier and you don’t feel like you just got Siberian Goose Down scammed.

I’d advise you to order as you’re eating or else you end up with 5 plates on the table, but the food is seriously awesome. Peking duck to die for. Duck egg roll was decadent. Kale asian caesar might have been my favorite dish. Waiters were super attentive. Portions were fair, if not large. This is not greasy american-chinese food– but instead hipster fusion gastropub chinese food. I dig it. Also be sure to check out the wall paper in the bathroom. I need to find it!

Been here twice now and had a very good meal both times. Wonderful fresh tofu, incredibly flavorful and addictive dirty rice, and most recently an amazing summer corn salad. The menu seems to change often, especially with the seasons, so you will likely be eating something different than I did if you go check it out! The service was friendly and helpful, and the place has a nice clean, modern, minimal aesthetic to it. I do want to point out that this place is not cheap, and the«$$» rating here on Unilocal is misleading, as most of the dishes are pretty small. Is it possible to come here and spend $ 30 or less per person on dinner and a drink? Sure, but you will be probably be leaving hungry. This is not a slight against the restaurant at all, just something to keep in mind.

It’s also worth nothing that all the stuff people raved about on this site — paper bag fish, candied walnuts, smacked cucumbers — they don’t serve here anymore. So perhaps this is a case of a place that used to be good, once upon a time… But my experience is that these days, it sadly really isn’t.

This isn’t your average Chinese restaurant. This place is clean, pretty, and almost café-like. The servers and workers are sweet and friendly. There’s a sort of refinement about their menu, yet everything is very approachable and appetizing. Like I said, not your average Chinese restaurant. Met my friends here for brunch. I sadly missed on a Unilocal brunch a few months back and really wanted to go here, so this was my second attempt. We ordered the following to share: soft shell crab sandwich, market vegetable fried rice, hong kong style french toast, and a quarter roast duck. Also tried some of their non-alcoholic sodas, which were very fresh and fruity. The food took a while to arrive, but once it did, it was wonderful. The food was fresh and plated so nicely, and the girls were raving about each dish. I definitely liked the soft shell crab sandwich and the quarter duck the best. Definitely satisfied my craving for roast duck. I think the menu tends to change as well, so there are other things you can look forward to.

*Review 1600* These new restaurant concepts keep sprouting up with twists on cantonese style dishes. 2 Duck Goose brings the FUN(«fun» in cantonese means noodles) I’m all about the fun so lets get review 1600 underway! Me and my food posse have Saturday nite reservations. Brooklyn traffic is KILLING me, people are driving slow, don’t they know I have plans? We walk in and of course there is no one in the restaurant. This is New York, it doesn’t mean anything because a wave of folks will be coming within the hour. The restaurant itself is a small cozy spot. The noise level was quite high when the place got packed out. We sit down and order drinks. My brother in law sees a watermelon beer on the menu. Brewed in California, it wasn’t something I’d order. He also chose Grapefruit beer in EPCOT last year and that was fantastic so? I ordered a glass. Holy watermelon beer! That beer was insane! 2DG is known for plate sharing. Our first starter was the Duck egg roll. We’re four people so we need to have two egg rolls. The egg roll was tasty but the temperature was inconsistent. We each took a bite, a little greasy and the outside was hot. The duck on the inside was cold? I’m thinking they had the meat in the fridge, wrapped the egg rolls and deep fried them. Next was the soft shell crab tempura style. Again, we’re four people and to order two of them at $ 22 bucks each is kinda steep. What I tasted along with crispy vegetable salad was nothing short of amazing. I thought it was the best dish of the night. We ordered the Pork Char Siu which is heritage pork shoulder that’s marinated and glazed. A typical cantonese dish that we’re all used to. I thought it was a bit dry and overcooked. Meh We also ordered a full roast crescent farm duck. Lotsa duck, we couldn’t finish! All in all, a very nice place for a family style dinner.

I am all for modern takes on chinese cuisine. Additionally, I’m all for more restaurant options on 4th avenue. They have a friendly and warm group of folks working here. Here are the things I recall: decent wine list. — Soft shell crab was delicious. — The salads, which we are told are made from veg that the chef gets fresh daily, was totally drowned in a dressing. Poor greens. — The duck, which is their star, was not my favorite. I guess I’m more of a dumb guy who likes duck breast or legs and not all those little bits where you have to kind of work at it to get the meat off. I’m lazy. That may just be me. The duck was fine but not earth shattering.

The atmosphere of this place wasn’t what I expected, but was definitely cute. We ordered the dirty fried rice(mixed veggies and shrimp) to share for two people. The waitress stated that it wouldn’t be enough, yet the menu said to share everything since the dishes would be family style. The rice was nevertheless amazing, and neither too oily nor too salty. It was pretty filling as well, but we got vegetable dumplings to try too. They were fried in a way different than I’ve ever had them, and were pretty good as well. I would definitely come to brunch/dinner here once, but not sure if I’d regularly eat here.

This was one of the most awkward dining experiences that I’ve ever had. We ordered the soft shelled crab and dirty fried rice. The dishes are meant to be shared family style, but to me family style implies larger portions to be shared. The fried rice was sufficient to feed one person and a single soft shelled crab(which was labeled as a large dish) is sufficient to be an appetizer for a single person. The dishes are really small plates style and I wish they would label it as such. The food tasted good, but was much too oily and salty. The quality of the food is 3 stars because of the excess oil. What made the dining experience very awkward was how the waitress tried to shame us into ordering more. I understand that she wanted to convey the information that portion size was small, but trying to shame us was not the way to do it. Shaming is a type of bullying behavior and it’s not something we condone. My husband wanted to finish the soft shell crab. He took the last big bite and wanted to finish up the bits of crab and greens left on the platter. While his chopstick was in the air to finish those bits, the platter was whisked away without asking if we were done. It’s extraordinarily rude. We were very unhappy with the quality of service.

Had the best and most interesting brunch in recent years here. We had been meaning to come for dinner but brunch seemed a great alternative and boy were we not disappointed. Ambiance — small spot, with an open kitchen and homey feel — staff is super friendly and will gladly discuss the menu options with you Food — green tea is served in an ADORABLE person teapot that I’ve been trying to find on google to have for myself — duck sliders were great but definitely overshadowed by the duck Benedict — duck Benedict according to my boyfriend is the best thing he’s ever ate and I must agree. On a crispy slightly sweet pineapple bun with a light hollindaise that’s also flavored with a bit of all spice. All topped with pickled veggies and a side of potato hash The staff also gave me a free mimosa because I posted a picture of our meal on Instagram! #bestthingever Can’t wait to come back and try their pecking duck dinner

Dinner for 2. we ordered: roast crescent farm duck local baby bok choy with green garlic dumplings Duck was flavorful, well salted, and only lightly smelled of duck(though as leftovers, the duck smell was overwhelming). Unfort we did not get the accompanying rice nor the pickles. We didn’t realize until after that it was missing so i guess… no harm no fowl? LAWL i had to. baby bok choy was ok — a bit too oily compared to what i normally make and considering the going rate(not including the local fee) is less than $ 2 a lb… this was really small portion wise. The dumplings were more potstickers as they were deep fried. they were cripsy but oozed oil as well. I was expecting something more steamed Portion wise — all three of these were more than enough and we took the rest of the duck as leftovers. the waitress insisted it wasn’t enough and told us to order more… but it was fine even without the starches. the duck is def enough to feed two people. It’s a cute restaurant. i liked the porcelains on the wall. and, is family /group party friendly. i wouldn’t go back for dinner again but i am curious about these brunch pineapple buns.

I am trying to start a Unilocal ladies brunch. I organized 7 ladies to meet a couple Sundays ago at 2 Duck Goose. I had one cancellation during the week and day of I had 2 cancellations and one no show. 3 of us still made it and were determined to have an awesome time. We knew we were going to start the order with the bottomless mimosas. Our waitress Rebecca was very friendly. She gave us some time to think about what we wanted to order. We were in luck because the table next to us ordered fried chicken and waffles and the smoked trout pineapple buns. I knew right away I wanted the buns. I love smoked trout and the dish came with two buns. My buddies ordered one order of pineapple buns and another order of chicken and waffles. We also ordered the lobster dumplings to start. The dumplings were a little greasy but still delicious. There was 4 to the order so we had some challenges with the last dumpling but we made do. My sandwiches arrived and they were delicious. I had never even had a pineapple buns before. It had a crumbly topping that worked well with all the other flavors going on in the sandwich. There was the smoked trout, fresh herbs and cream cheese. Everything complemented each other. I wish this place was closer to my work because it was just the right amount of food, right price and completely different flavors that I am used to. We never had to ask Rebecca for our mimosas. She always kept our glasses full and that made us very happy. I will say there was one mistake. We got two chicken and waffles instead of two trouts. Rebecca quickly made the change however, I didn’t realize until I got home we were charged for the two orders of waffles that were more expensive. We had such a lovely time and then the chef came out to talk to my friend. She mentioned the fact that we didn’t fill our reservation total. I was very surprised she would mention the fact that people weren’t able to make it. It was bad enough that we had cancellations. I didn’t appreciate her mentioning it.

Best brunch I’ve had in a while. We ordered the Cantonese duck benedict and the chicken and bun. Bottomless mimosa for $ 10 only sweetened my like for this place. I love pineapple buns, which are like brioches but with a sweet crispy topping. Happily for me, most of the brunch dishes here use them, even my Benedict, which tastes like Peking Duck on a sweet bun. Amazing. Husband’s chicken and bun was also delicious, and it came with a side of maple syrup and salad. Prices are very reasonable, with nothing over $ 15, and service was friendly. Lots of sunlight and a touch of Chinese décor. I’ll be back!

Finally a legit Cantonese restaurant in New York! If you are looking for bland flavors and greasy comfort food — look elsewhere. This is reinvented modern Cantonese fare that fits in perfectly with the growing Gowanus foodie scene. Start your dinner with the smacked radishes/cucumbers and lotus roots to open up your taste buds. Then order the borscht and the roast pork char siu for dinner with duck fried rice(recommend this dish for all hours of the day). As for brunch, this place really excels. The hong kong toast(french toast) with peanut butter is decadently delicious. Also recommend the pineapple bun sliders and cha siu hash. The atmosphere is clean and simple. Service is relaxed. Great place for groups and families.

New renovation looks great. They have a real bar to hang out at and watch the open kitchen. Great traditional Cantonese stuff like roast pork and duck, and very nice fresh veggie dishes! But the standout is the epic steak — huge portion for sharing, grass-fed, served with a nice mix of leafy herbs.

Darn. Really, really wanted to like this place. We ordered 4 dishes and each in their own way was a disappointment. The tofu was fine, but it wasn’t that sensual, melting tofu I’ve come to expect from a typical housemade silken tofu dish. It also was served super awkwardly in thicker slices rather than in a bowl format, making it difficult to both eat and serve. The chicken wings were a real miss — I love black bean sauce on anything, but these were oversalted, gloppy — not a great dish. The pork was the true disappointment of the evening. Dry, tough, neither sweet nor sour. Just bland and overly salty at the same time. Ditto to the soy sauce chicken dish. Absolutely nothing interesting about it. Service was lazy, lackluster… we were passed multiple times before menus were dropped, then passed several times with menus folded before our orders were taken, etc. Watched others watching and waiting for waitstaff to take notice. I suspect that most who come for brunch are happier. We sadly won’t take that chance a second time around.

I came here for brunch on Sunday and was very impressed. For one the place is beautiful. Its super clean, neat and well decorated. The atmosphere is great for a nice sunday meal. Our food was delicious! My husband ordered the chicken and I ordered the duck fried rice with the fried egg on top. We loved both of our plates along with our mimosas. Our server was pleasant and on point. We are definitley coming back for more brunches and hopefully dinners!

First off, being a HK native myself, I was skeptical when I initially read about 2DG. After a recent mediocre experiences at another asian fusion hot spot in the city, the last thing I wanted was another disappointment after tracking all the way to BK. Luckily, 2DG did not disappoint. Let’s straight to the food. Between me and my friend, we ordered more than enough food for two person: Apps: we started with the silken tofu seasoned with soya broth, Chinese pickles ginger. This was refreshing, like hint of yuzu and lemon zest. We also got the smashed radish seasoned with Chikiang vinegar(浙江, it is an Chinese province near Shanghai) and Sichuan peppercorn. Very seasonal and like the peppercorn kick. Main: the first thing we got was the char siu(roasted pork) in classic style. It was using 半肥瘦, meaning marbled meat. Just like many old school HKBBQ houses do. So those who complained with the fat, read your menu before ordering. But if you do, you will be rewarded with«pork candy» that is perfectly charred, slightly caramelized on the outside and juicy tender inside. It certainly porky but not greasy at all. Only one comment, wish I could have more char siu sauce :) We also got the Mahjong Chicken with fermented black bean sauce. This is one of my favorite tonight; classic Cantonese home cooking. It said it was chef’s mom’s recipe. Coincidentally, my mom loves cooking with black bean sauce too :) It is the magic sauce that lights up a dish instantly. Sweet and sour shrimp. This was surprisingly good. I was a bit unwilling to order this because it sounded very non-Cantonese :/Yet, I was surprised to find that the shrimp was just very lightly beaded. Not too sweet or feel starchy like one would find with Americanized Chinese takeout. My friend loved it lot(sure, he is not Cantonese). Cantonese beef borscht stew, another classic Hongkongese rendevous. Few may know that we call this Russian Soup(羅宋湯) in HK, since it was brought to HK by way of Shanghai by Russian immigrants in the 20s. Over the years, it has been adapted to tailor to Hongkongese’s taste bud. It is one of the two stable soup options at any Hongkong dinner(茶餐厅). The other one is corn chowder. As my friend insisted, we also got the duck fried rice and Singaporean noodles. I was too full to eat either. I had a bite of the noodle, was good. Oh, do yourself a favor, not to miss out the side veggies. They all very good. Services were very good from we arrived to after we left. We were 20 mins late and they still seat us quickly while the place was completely packed. I left my hat there and they kept it for me till I could return and picked it up. The price was very reasonable. We were surprised to find that after 3 apps, 6 mains and 2 bottle of wine, the bill is under $ 250 before T&T :) All in all, very good experiences. To top of the good services, chef Ben Pope stopped by our table and chatted with us at the end of the dinner. It is great to find someone share the same passion for Hongkong/Cantonese cuisine like me. I will definitely come back and try some other items on the menu. Closing notes, this is not another hipster Chinese restaurant that is trying to be «cool»; nor is it in the same category as those cheap and dirty Chinatown hole in the wall. Cantonese, is similar to Japanese in many ways, especially the emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients and careful seasoning that should only be used moderately to bring out the flavor of the food itself but not overpowering it. Hongkong cuisine roots in Cantonese yet different in that it absorbs many western cooking influences. It seems to me that people what giving negative reviews below do not really understand Cantonese or Hongkong cuisine per se. Come try 2DG with an open mind and you won’t regret.

I may never have brunch anywhere else ever again. I mean why bother? Is any other place going to serve me a pineapple bun stuffed with roast duck? That’s like saying I’ll have chocolate stuffed with an orgasm. I mean seriously, where else can I stumble into next day after a four hour drunken settlers of catan marathon*, and have spicy coconut stew, guaranteed to cure any hangover? Where else is the staff going to be nice enough to drag my ass to the table and stuff delicious food into my mouth until I regain consciousness? Not many places let me tell you. Trust me I’ve tried. 2DG is a winner. This is not your Brooklyn-Chinatown-roast-duck-hanging-in-the-window kinda place. This is different. Do yourself, your mouth, your stomach, and a couple friends maybe a favor and head over there for a one of a kind brunch experience. * Don’t hate, you know you wish you were invited

Disappointingly average. As a huge fan of cantonese food, I was very excited to try 2 Duck Goose. Unfortunately, I found the food to be either overly salted or greasy. While not a bad meal, it wasn’t a great one. Still, I would likely give the restaurant another chance to try some of the other items. The menu is very interesting and it looks like there are a lot of good options. I am interesting in their cantonese duck meal, even if it is 120 dollars, and the bbq items, which were not available when we were eating(well, they were, but they said it would take 30 minutes to get served). We got the soy sauce chicken, which was way too salty, the Singapore noodles with pork(the pork was good but the noodles were too oily), and another pork dish that was quite good. We also had glasses of sake which are generous pours at 8 dollars a piece. So while the menu is interesting, the food wasn’t well prepared. I will give it another shot.
