This was my second time at this restaurant because the first time we came it was great! However, the second time we came we had to eat in the basement floor. We had to wait more than an hour just for ONE dish. The food was just average too and they got the order wrong. Unbelievable!!!

Ordered Roast Pork and Duck over rice(in Cantonese). I got white chicken, one piece of skinless pork(i don’t know how that got in there) and duck over rice. The chicken and pork were dry and I got like a like 3 slices of chicken. The duck is minimally better than other places in the area. They didn’t give me ginger sauce for the chicken. I walked 30 minutes in 85 degree weather for them to mess up my order. Sad.

This is one of the top restaurant I have visited. Indubitably, try the roast duck and it is also one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. Eating in here is pretty decent, remember to tip the waiters. The service is amazing. I remember every time I request extra sauce, they would happily add the sauce. The reason for the four stars is because the price is a bit more expensive compared to other places. For example, 9.50 $ for roast duck and you can get it for a dollar or two less in other places.

Definitely an eclectic menu where you can try some authentic food. Ordering the seafood with lo mein and it was very good. Seems like it is a locals place so they must be doing something right. Good bang for your buck too. Would definitely come back.

My family and I come here often for a family dinner. The foods are great and isn’t too expensive. I love their shrimp with walnut. The only problem is when the restaurant is busy, the food doesn’t taste the same since they’re rushing.

I often order dinner for pickup. Usually I’d stick to my stir fried beef noodles and roast duck. This time the lady told me over the phone that they ran out of the noodles, they cannot complete my order. So I ended up ordering some type of oily lo mein which they probably ran out of salt as well, or even soy sauce for that matter as it had no taste. Threw the entire carton into the trash, and made myself some instant noodles instead.

My friend and her family took me to this place. They are Cantonese, and locals to the Brooklyn area, so I trusted their judgement before coming here. But after I tried the food, I was sold. This place had really good shrimp and broccoli, their sauce for that dish was just amazing. The filet steak Hong Kong Style was just amazing, nice and tender, awesome with rice. Can’t go wrong with the crispy skin pork. The razor clams were awesome but it’s a seasonal thing. I know there’s a lot of food choices on 8th avenue and this one is further up from the train station, but it is sooo good and so worth the extra walk. Don’t let other places distract you, this place is a must.

Really good experience overall. The waiters are nice, the place is ok and looks clean. I recommend the sweet and sour chicken, for me that was specially good. If you are in the neighborhood, check it out.

Lots of people were waiting to be seated at Lucky 8 when we arrived around 8:30 pm on a Saturday night but we were seated faster than I anticipated. Service is typical for Chinese restaurants and hot tea and sugary peanuts were waiting for us on the table. We ordered the«pride of lucky 8» — definitely don’t miss out on this dish. It was a delicious concoction of abalone(tasted like octopus or squid) with Chinese leeks(crisp with mild flavor) and other vegetables, sprinkled with dried fish. Also tasty were the minced pork with eggplant and the Sichuan roasted duck. Prices aren’t cheap but portions are massive, so we had leftovers to bring home. The Brooklyn Chinatown has a very different feel than the one in Manhattan so I recommend exploring a bit either before or after dinner at Lucky 8!

The food has slipped and the prices seem as if they’ve doubled overnight. Not the gem it once was. The duck was almost too salty to eat, noodles were way too bland. Wish it was better!

I stopped by here to get the three choice rice platter to go. I picked chicken, duck, and crispy roast pork since they ran out of bbq roast pork ”char siu”. Everything was a bit overly salty and the guy who packed/chopped my order was rude. I asked him if he can scoop me new white rice cause the one he gave me has been sitting on the counter and was cold. He raised his voice at saying that it was warm and just out of the cooker. The second time I came back I got a ginger scallion chicken drumstick because my grandma was craving it. That one chicken drumstick was $ 3.75 and I had to purchase the rice separately! I could of paid a few bucks more and got like half a chicken!

I’ve eaten here twice so far and I can say the food does not disappoint. Service was friendly and attentive too. Plus it’s easy on the wallet. The lunch special they have is three dishes and soup for 19.50. You can easily feed a family on 20 bucks. The fried calamari was meaty with just the right amount of saltiness and kid approved. A must try is the chicken with taro. The taro is similar to a potato in texture and it just soaks up all the seasoning and sauce from the chicken, adding to the flavorful dish. The only dish that I thought was just OK was the vermicelli with shrimp… the sa-day sauce made the dish just a little too heavy for my liking. Another plus about this restaurant is their dinner menu… while the waitstaff may be limited in their English, all the menu items have photos which makes picking a dish much easier. They also have ten course meal options for dinner events and the prices are also reasonable. Downstairs they have two rooms — one that holds 3 tables and one that holds 6 tables… with complementary karaōke! Definitely check this place out!

I’m a long time fan of Lucky Eight. From their lunch specials, dinner entrees, and roast meats, they can’t be beat. This place is my go-to for roast pork. Whether it is over rice or by itself, the sweet and salty meat is divine. Not too lean and not too fatty. They also have great roast duck and roast pig with the crispy skin. I love coming here for lunch when I can. Where else can you get three entrees, rice, and soup for less than $ 20? The entrees aren’t as big as the dinner entrees but I certainly always have leftovers. I last came here with my brother and ordered fried Beijing-style pork chops, garlic eggplant, and steamed meat pie. We both have pretty healthy appetites and but we still wound up with leftovers. If you just need a quick meal, their roast meats over rice is worth it. For about $ 5, you can get roast pork on rice with a side of stir fried cabbage. If you want more variety of meat, it’s an additional dollar or two. My favorite thing to get here when I don’t feel like cooking is salt fish(bacalao) and chicken fried rice. It’s just so darn tasty. Dinner is a bit pricier but their dishes are pretty unique. My favorite so far is their fried oyster and the dish with lotus bulbs.

Was trying to find china town in Brooklyn, read the reviews so we thought(let’s give it a try) I wasn’t impressed at all! The place was small, ok… that didn’t bother me, I figured that, but after looking at the menu forever I finally ordered the things that sound familiar, roasted pig– this suppose to be there big hot item, I expected something with more flavor, I am Latina when we look a pig it’s dripping in flavor, this lacked, basically tasted like some type of honey glaze. Someone on Unilocal wrote to try the ribs, also wasn’t impressed, I’ve had better at my local Chinese joint. The fried rice, also zero flavor, and we also got the garlic chicken, which I must say wasn’t too bad. There are no dumplings, egg rolls, or any Americanized Chinese items on the menu. I guess I have to stick to joes Shanghai in Chinatown… But I will say service was good, everyone is attentive to you, and the food comes out really fast! Maybe too damn fast.

Food: 3.5÷5.0 Service: 2.5÷5.0 Value: 3.0÷5.0 Décor: 3.0÷5.0 Overall: 3.5÷5.0 Solid smaller Chinese restaurant on a mildly competitive street with lots of options but only a few worth trying. Food quality is consistent and service is decent for what it is. The Cantonese BBQ here is good for the area, but not competitive with the Chinatown in the city. Depending on the dish you order(off the dinner menu), a case could be made that this is closer to four stars than three off the quality of the food.

This place is a legit Chinese restaurant in the heart of sunset park. most patrons are Chinese they come in large groups a real family place which is nice. they have lunch specials 3 Items for $ 20. which is more than enough food for two. My wife and I usually doggy bag the lunch. the food is decent and best of all they have Peking duck. It is not as crispy as my favorite place in Manhattan but it is still very good. all in all it is one of my favorite restaurants in brooklyn., good food good service good prices.

I’ve been coming here for years and the food is always pretty solid. Apparently this makes one of the best roast porks in Brooklyn, I don’t doubt that. If you want a good cheap meal, definitely come here for their BBQ meat over rice. I got BBQ roast pork and soy sauce chicken over rice and it was delicious. The pork was juicy and not dry and the flavors were all there. The chicken was very tender and definitely not dry! Asian cuisine really know how to keep chicken juicy and tender. The rice could’ve been better which is why there’s –1 star but otherwise, a great cheap meal.

I LOVE this place! I feel like it has the BEST roast pig in all of NYC. Just filmed a video here and you’ll find it on in a few days so check out all the awesome Chinese BBQ we ate. All the rest of their bbq is pretty good too! We got it all and the waitress actually told us that we ordered too much. Which if you think about it, is bad business for the restaurant :-) anyway, we ordered all the BBQs they had and indeed ate it all! Cause that’s how we do things.

They charged us $ 1 for each bowl of rice, where they do that at? You mean to tell me, we spent $ 80 on food and you can’t give us a free bowl of rice to go with our meal? Da fuq? I disapprove of this worse than an Asian parent disapproves of a B on a report card! I came here as a last resort for Father’s Day dinner as my go to restaurant was packed and we were hungry and didn’t want to wait. Went on my Unilocal app and found Lucky 8. Decided to give it a shot because of the good reviews. I remembered that I used to come here but stopped but didn’t remember why. Well now I remember… The food was only ok, I personally prefer City Café and was more expensive than City Café. I did like that they had English descriptions on the menus for the ABC’s like me as well as pictures of the foods.

Excellent meal all around. Great and fast service. Good prices. Came in on a rainy Saturday night around 8:30. Restaurant was busy but not crowded. Started with Hot and Sour spot — great. Then mushrooms and snow peas — amazing. Best thing we had. Then had the crispy duck — also excellent. Highly recommended.

I’ve been here multiple times over the course of seven years and and say that this place is pretty consistent in terms of quality, especially in the 8th avenue area, where food is often cheap but too greasy or sloppily prepared. I have been here for the lunch special and sit-down dinners and everything has been great. As for the lunch special, their dishes are all $ 6.50, and come with rice and soup. The lunch specials that goes all the way up until 4:30PM, which is quite late and works perfectly with my schedule in which my lunch breaks are quite inconsistent. My personal favorites are the Peking Pork Chop(though sometimes it feels too sweet if you get it alone with rice), the sirloin steak with pickled turnips, and the beef with egg sauce. They also have all of the conventional Cantonese roast meats and these have been very good every time that I’ve gotten them as well. For sitdown dinners, this place is also a great atmosphere and pretty friendly service. Dishes are clean, but the porkchops and the garlic chicken stand out among the crowd and there isn’t the same problem with the porkchops being too sweet alone, if you have other side dishes. They also give you orange slices at the end of the meal partially as a dessert and partially to cleanse your palate.

Generous amount of food for their lunch special deals! Three dishes for only $ 19.50, with many many options, too! It was just us two plus the kid today and the food could have easily fed 3 – 4 adults, but that’s okay, I love leftovers. Got here at noon and place was packed, we still managed to grab a 4 seater right before the bigger crowd rolled in. Right away a highchair and a set of plastic utensils and a bowl came for the baby before I even asked, nice. Even though the place was crammed, there was no rush in placing our order, great. All the dishes were legit, and had what it was suppose to have. Shrimp with Mixed Veggies had tons of shrimp, Braised Fish with Mustard Greens had plenty fish, Chicken in Black Pepper Honey Sauce was loaded with chunks of chicken, no where did I feel I was skimped out on such a great deal. This is the new spot for lunch and it beats City Café!

Let me start by saying this review is for the LUNCH special only. Their deal is you get to choose 3 entrees for 19.50. This comes with rice and soup. Plentiful of food for two, 3 people can even opt for this. Their portions are a good size. Some places skimp out during lunch but this is not the case. There are a lot of options too. Our 3 entrees were their stir fry string beans with beef cubes, salt and pepper pork chop, and a fish filet stir fry with vegetables. My favorite dish is the stir fry string beans with beef. It’s super flavorful but a little too salty(this time). It does however make for the perfect accompaniment to white rice! The salt and pepper pork chops were a little dry and not as flavorful as it could’ve been. It was fried perfectly though– the outside being super crispy. Some places give you lots of pieces where it’s 80% fat. Lucky Eight gives you a lot of meat! Last but not least the fish filet stir fry with vegetables was delicious as well. The fish filet was super tender and there was a huge variety of veggies. The food here is really good! You can taste the«wok hay» in all their dishes. Not many restaurants can deliver that. My one critique is their dishes were a little too oily. Yes, you can’t cook without oil but it was a little excessive. After finishing our food, you can see the oil pooled on the bottom of the dish. It is not okay for our dishes to be shining when the food is cleaned off. However I will probably return when I’m in the mood for family style Chinese food during lunch.

Today I was fortunate enough to be the guests of two Brooklyn based friends who go out to lunch a couple of times per month with some NYC area food writers, searching out the best of the best of mostly Chinese cuisine. Wanting to fit in and be a part of their group I observed no one had their cell phones out taking pictures so I followed suit. This is the second time I’ve joined this group in the past year so there was plenty to catch up on and lots of discussion. In the course of that I really didn’t pay particular attention to the names of the dishes, but we were all in agreement that this is a pretty spectacular place to dine in the style of traditional Hong Kong restaurants(or so I was told). Appears some other Unilocalers agree with this assessment. I let the hosts order as one individual grew up in a family from Hong Kong and operated a Chinese restaurant for years. Like many great dining spots in the city it’d be easy to walk right by Lucky 8 and not think it’s anything special. That’d be a mistake. I think the word has gotten out because it was packed from out arrival around 11:45 and was still going strong when we parted at 2:00 p.m. Highly recommended. I’d return here again without hesitation.

Still delicious, still a great value but the most recent time we visited stir fried veggies were ridiculously expensive…$ 11 for some stir fried veggies? Meanwhile you can order delicious steak or pork chops for like 4 bucks more. We ordered the Chinese broccoli and they gave us nothing but stems, no leaves. What gives? Also they got one of our orders wrong. The waitress did give the chef the correct order that we wanted steamed tofu with our tofu casserole but they still ended up serving us the fried tofu. The waitress was very friendly and gracious and offered to bring it back, but we didn’t want to give her a hard time. The HK style steak was tender and tasty though a bit sweet and overbearing unless you eat it with rice. The salt and pepper pork chops/spare ribs were delicious! It is restaurants like this that really make me miss living in NY. 8th Avenue Brooklyn is such a gold mine. I noticed a lot more«Americans»(white people) at Lucky 8 the most recent time I went. I guess they are catching on to what a good restaurant it is. I am happy for the restaurant but hope it doesn’t change the authentic food they serve or what a great value they are.
