Associated Fresh

First of all, the only reason I go here at all is because it’s right around the corner…
Cons:
— Over-​priced mostly.
— Produce and meats are really poor in quality. Don’t even look at the often discolored beef and pork unless you’re trying to turn vegan.
— Deli guy is never there for cold cuts.
— Their stocking skills are horrible. And they always seem to stock during rush hour.
— Expiration dates must be checked.
— Shelves have one to two shelves two high. Have to find guy with ladder which is annoying.
— Inventory varies and is never constant for most staple items.
— You have to watch the register for mis-​charging. Most sales items won’t come up as their advertised sale.
— Getting the cashiers to even feign a fake smile is a near impossibility.
— It’s a clique of mostly disinterested teenage kids who seem to run the place.
— A/​C freezes you out in the summer.
Pros:
— Do have good sales occasionally on random products.
— Always have a good ice cream sale. (Talenti Gelato is often on sale for $ 3.99)
— The older man (manager) will take your recommendations on products — and so far, they have shown up a couple weeks later on the shelf.

I used to shop at the associated on union street and was super excited that one opened up closer to me, which is this location. They have an amazing selection and I used to shop here about three times per week but I now refuse to come back unless every other store is closed. My reason is the men who work there are scumbags. When I go there there are two or three guys who come from the stock room or back of the store and walk around trying to talk to me even if I’m with my mother or father It is crazy to make customers feel uncomfortable. It’s not only me a few other woman I know have said the same thing.

Not only is Associated Fresh overpriced for what it is (think Key Foods quality at Whole Foods prices), but the people who work the cash registers have zero customer service skills. Their attitudes towards shoppers basically range from oblivious to straight up rude and annoyed. You definitely don’t feel welcome here.
On the plus side the store is clean and bigger than your average corner shop, but that’s about all it has going for it. I’ll keep walking the extra block to Earth’s Basket.

I was so excited for this store to open, but have not been impressed with their costumer service. WARNING! check that the price that scans is correct, so many times products they have advertised do not ring up for the advertised price. And when I mentioned it them more often than not I get attitude from the person ringing me up that has to go check the actual price. I find it extremely frustrating.

Great selection, not as amazing as fairway in red hook but close to the apartment and very clean. It’s pretty much my go-​to for grocery shopping

expectation on this new supermarket in the hood was high, but since they opened I have just gone there once.
I hoped I could shop more, but at the end quality/​price didn’t convince me much and I just bought a few items.
It’s big enough, and they have some items/​brands that other supermarket don’t have, which is good.
I will consider it for the times that I forgot to buy something…

I was so thrilled to see this store go in. My patience for Eagle Provisions’ dirty store and expired stock had finally run out, and this clean, well-​stocked store was exactly what I (and the neighborhood) needed. It’s small, so there are some things you won’t be able to get here like fish, chocolate soy milk (oddly specific, but a favorite of mine,) and grains beyond rice and regular couscous. That said, it feels pretty spacious, is well-​lit, and has almost everything I’ve gone in looking for. Prices are very fair. The staff seem very pleasant. I’ve checked out with Alyssa a few times and she’s always smiling and cheerful.

Walked in here just to check out the store that took forever to open. Since it’s brand new, its very clean, there is actually decent room in the aisles and quite bright. Looks like they have all the basics and decent meat selection with the exception of fish. There’s a deli in the back for sandwich meats and cutlets. Nice to have something a little closer now that Eagle Provisions will be closing soon. One of the few stores that carries Pedialyte, to help out the next morning for vicious hangovers.
