A little loud, but lots of fun. Great food. Nice meeting place with friends. Can’t beat the french reggae. Easily a top 5 brunch destination.

This place was amazing! The food was delicious. I had the mussels in the red sauce — unreal. Our service at the bar was excellent. Live music on Sunday night. It felt more like eating at a friend’s house than a restaurant.

Good food. Decent service. However, they only take American Express, so I will not be back. Bummer.

Sunday was my first time at Bar Tabac for brunch. I ordered the Eggs«Bar Tabac» baked with ratatouille, merguez sausage and potato. The sausage was good, but in my opinion, the dish was a little underwhelming. This could be because I need to eat more vegetables. However, on a prior dinner visit, I was pretty happy with the steak frites. The space is cozy, and they have music after noon. Just remember to bring cash or AMEX because that’s all they accept.

Great place. Great mood and I like that it’s not über cool. Very busy. Unlike most people I actually really don’t care for crowded restaurants at all, but this place kinda has a bar feel. Food was very tasty, almost pungent and once in a while, why not challenge your usual palate. One waitress there is obviously also some sort of supermodel and she wore her lovely, long hair down the whole night. I didn’t really know they could do that and I really do not mind.

The calamari and sautéed shrimp were so amazing that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. The food and service here is excellent. The reason for the 4 stars? When it came time to pay the bill that’s when I was told they only accept cash or Amex… So as a person who never carries cash I had to leave my date sitting alone for 20 minutes while I walked to the closest bank.

Cutest little restaurant on the corner of my friends block. The wait staff is very attentive. I’ve dined here several times. The burger is good. The mussels are good. Basically, everything is good!

I have been going to this restaurant for years… Never fails to produce an amazing affordable meal with a smile. Steak frites, burgers and salads are amazing! Go there, you will love it!

Please accept all major credit cards. Currently only accepting cash or American Express is a hassle for your customers. I honestly cannot imagine why you would not accept all credit cards, there are so many new credit card processing systems available now that would make it very easy and inexpensive to do. Maybe the neighborhood ATM machine mafia has you under their thumb and won’t let you process credit cards, in which case, I’m sorry and I understand. But guys, half these reviews mention this as a problem and it’s hurting your ratings and the customer experience.

Bar Tabac is always a lively place. If there’s live music, head inside. If not, then have a seat on the sidewalk café. If you’re on Dean and ignore Smith street, it feels very European. However, their beer selection is pretty limited(and not great), and it’s cash only. Come here for the vibes or the wine.

The place is really cozy with great fresh food. I ordered Canadian Mussel in white wine sauce; the taste was really good and the mussels are very fresh. Great service even they were busy.

Used to live in the area and came here a few times. Atmosphere and food always decent to good but service was always iffy. Some days good some days really horrendous and rude. Lots of places on smith with better food and service so I don’t bother coming anymore.

Don’t you wish teleportation existed? I know I do. Because I would save a lot on plane tickets. But since that hasn’t been invented yet you can just come to Bar Tabac. I might be a little biased because I used to live in Paris, which makes me love Bar Tabac even more. The place is filled with Frenchies so I get to practice my French which is always nice. I always feel like I’ve been plucked out of NYC and dropped right into a Parisian café. They usually have a great band playing adding to the festive environment. As for the food, it’s been hit or miss to be perfectly honest but since the wine and atmosphere makes up for it I(for me anyway) ‘m keeping my review at 5 stars. The last time I was here I had a shrimp salad which was honestly one of the best salads I ever had. Then again another time I came I had the tuna which was chewy and weird. My friend had the coq au vin which she reported was effing delish.

Bar Tabac is warm, cozy, has great bistro-esque-ness and the service is wonderful. On weeknights, they’re full, but it’s easy to get a table. Some nights they even have live music in the front of the restaurant(but you can sit in the back if you want a more quiet meal). Plenty of seats, and limited outdoor seating when the weather allows. A good option for dinner as well as brunch. To give you a sense of pricing: Mussels with fries are $ 18; a glass of wine is $ 9. The food is good(but not amazing) — but both the wine and the service are great.

I’ve been to Bar Tabac numerous times and have always enjoyed the food. The atmosphere is very pleasant, definitely a French Bistro vibe. The space is intimate and quaint, it works well for the neighborhood. This recent visit was my third, I came for a Friday afternoon lunch. However, I didn’t really like what I ordered. __ Country Pâté [$ 8.50]: The country pâté comes with toasted bread and assorted pickled accoutrements. Everything on the plate [cornichons, dijon mustard, pearl onions, etc.] was acidic and I didn’t think the pâté was fatty enough to cut through that. Warm Artichoke Salad [$ 11.95]: I was looking for a light salad with an interesting twist. Beets always appeal to me. The problem was that the salad was overdressed and made the artichokes wilt even more [as they were already warm and wilted]. Another problem is that when beets are cooked, or even heated, they bleed, so ultimately the dressing became a mushy red vinaigrette which was unappealing. This salad became heavy after awhile and just wasn’t as refreshing as I’d hope it would be. Complimentary crusty rustic bread is served before the meal. The typical problem exists, where the meat of the bread is soft and the butter is cold and hard. Ultimately the bread rips when you try to spread the butter. __ The service was nothing special, the waiter seemed to be the only one working beside the busboy. I was in no way rushed, but I was given the check without my asking. Note: Turning the world on it’s head, Bar Tabac does NOT accept Mastercard, Visa, or any other normal form of payment. They do, however, take American Express and cash only. The bill came to around $ 23 [I also had a coffee]. Overall, meh.

This is a very cute brunch spot. I love the ambiance and the French bistro décor. Our party had already arrived and ordered(Long Island traffic around the holidays… fughettaboudit). Thankfully, we had peeped the menu before hand so we knew what we wanted. And more thankfully, our table had ordered the cheese board for sharing that tided us over nicely. My cappuccino($ 4) came out very quickly, with lots of foam just the way I like it. And so did the omelets that the boy and I ordered. For me, the omelet(with Swiss and spinach) was heavy so I couldn’t finish it. But alas, boys are good for finishing up your food! I ate the potatoes that come with it, and some of the salad. For $ 12.50, a good deal in a trendy area of Brooklyn — but what part of Brooklyn isn’t trendy, anyway? There was a decent size group of us and it was my friends’ birthday, and after we ate we opened up presents and they didn’t try to push us out the door, they let us enjoy ourselves which was appreciates. And waiters with(French) accents, always a plus in my book. I would definitely come back.

The mussels and frites are perfection. Our server was attentive without being overbearing and very friendly. The evening that I went, there was a live band playing at Bar Tabac! Fantastic ambiance, food and service.

Bar Tabac is replicating the atmosphere of a french bistro and I have to say this is very well done. The drinks will make happy any pastis lover(try the wonderful mauresque). For food, it’s not so typical french but good. I tried the burger and it was very tasty. Moreover, prices are not too expensive. Perfect place for a casual meeting with friends.

Cute little place in Cobble Hill with a cozy vibe. I came in one evening after seeing the live band from outside. The manager(maybe?) promptly and warmly greeted us and we sat at a table towards the back. While it did take a good 20 minutes for our waitress to finally come to our table, her sweet personality made up for the lapse. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and my husband asked for a Malbec. We were both pleased with our wines. My food order consisted of the Moules provençales and pommes frites. My husband asked for the goat cheese tart. Now I’m used to stingy portions when it comes to seafood but Bar Tabac delivered. My plate of mussels was HUGE and came with a nice-sized cup of fries. The taste was a B. Not the best but not bad either. The broth was lacking something but still good. The fries, however, were A+. Tasty little buggers. My husband enjoyed his food as well. Being the fat ass that I am, I was unable to turn down French dessert. So I ordered the crème brûlée and my husband ordered a mixed berry tart. Both the crème brûlée and the tart were absolutely delicious. However, the mixed berry tart did come on top of a chocolate and raspberry sauce mixture that wasn’t very pleasant. Thankfully moving the tart to a separate dish did the trick. If you’re in the mood for a cute restaurant with a good vibe and pretty good food, check this place out!

Un Baby Foot je vous dis ! Là sur le trottoir, à Brooklyn. Oui madame ! J’y ai commandé «Eggs ‘Bar Tabac’ — baked with ratatouille, merguez sausage, potato».

This place always has such great music we can listen to MJ over my goat cheese salad and mimosa. They have outdoor seating but it is competitive to get! Very small restaurant but definitely worth checking out. I’ve had to mussels and frites, delicious! Beware they only take American Express — annoying !!! But not annoying enough to be off putting. They do not have an ATM on site but there is one across the street. I love the cocktails they have crafted and the intimate vibe of the restaurant. My one complaint is the flies. They sometimes are everywhere on a nice day when the windows and doors are open.
