C & J Jamaican Restaurant and Bakery

I came in for lunch around 11:30. I got the oxtails, rice and peas with macaroni salad, and it was delicious down to the very last bite. Great medium portion for $ 10. Of course my meal would not be complete without my Jamaican pineapple soda. The staff was professional and the place was a decent size with 3 tables, I think, that could squeeze 4 people tightly lol and the place was also very clean. I got to taste a piece of my friends fried chicken which had some sweet sauce on it which was also tasty. All in all, I love me some C&J. though some have complained about the long lines, I didn’t experience one but you can kinda expect that in this type of restaurant and the food is certainly worth a little wait.

Its so gross. I had the curry chiken. Super bland. The rice n peas bland. I just hated it

I came in to the Utica Ave location to satisfy my craving for their macaroni salad. I was even willing to wait in the long line for it but thankfully that was not the case. And on top of that they lots of macaroni salad available however the cashier would not sell me a side of it by itself. She didn’t make eye contact as she conveyed the bad news.
I ordered oxtails with white rice and I remember it tasting better. However, the macaroni salad was amazing as usual. I really wish that I had gotten more with my order.
Hopefully they will sell me a side of macaroni salad at the Flatbush location because that’s where I’m headed the next time that I’m craving it

I’m giving 3 stars because the service sucks and the employees are rude. I give 5 stars for the food but it is not a welcoming environment at all.

I went there 4÷24÷2016 Ordered tow medium fry chicken with rice and peas and NO GRAVY. The receipt also indicate the same damn thing. So after waiting for almost 30mins for my food very patiently) when my food came I decided to check it and only to discover both meals were drenched in gravy. I gave it back immediately and indicate on the receipt where it states NO GRAVY. The employee went back with the food (waited another 20 mins just to get my right order). I went home only to find out that the fried chicken was over cooked. The chicken was fried so dry that you would not be able to chew any parts of it and the rice was not flavored or season I am luck if i tasted any coconut milk in it full of lumps.

One star less, why?
The entrance door needs to be replaced because it prevents me from getting into this restaurant… Lol

Ok so If I’m honest… lets just say that their Macaroni salad used to be the BEST of all time, right? I don’t know what happened but for some reason, their Mac salad makes me throw up! I thought maybe it was because I was eating too much of it everyday. Ok! Cool. Take a break Nia. So I stopped eating It for a whole year and decided to have an oxtail dinner with Mac salad with rice & peas! Chileeee when I tell you I puked! I didn’t even get to disgest it. I don’t know what it is but c&j fell off and to be honest… Mi really Cyan budda wid it anymore.

The food here is the bomb! We ordered the fried chicken, jerk chicken and the oxtail with a side or rice and macaroni and all taste so good! The service is fast and the guys are pretty helpful too. Although the place isn’t really a place to hang out and eat but okay to eat your order quick. Recommended!

Just wanna thank God for putting a Caribbean place in Flatbush that gives me a bunch of food for 7 $. So much food gets packed into your bowl and it’s all tasty!
The size up from this could feed you till you’re full and you’ll have some left over.

Have been craving Jamaican food for quite some time now and I ask a Jamaican guy at my job which would be the place to eat around Flatbush and he recommended CJ’s. I haven’t had good jerk chicken in a couple of years now so I may have forgotten how good it actually is but this place did not disappoint! Ordered the Medium Jerk Chicken with Peas and Rice and Macaroni Salad and everything was excellent. I saw a few reviews about the rice but when I went to eat the guy was stirring a huge pot of rice, no slow cooker. Will definitely be back to eat again. ! 4 stars because the wait was a little bit long but it’s for good reason.

I’m glad I’m not the only Jamaican person who notices that the way they make their rice and peas is PROBLEMATIC. I don’t know of a lot of Caribbean people who operate a pressure cooker to cook their rice and this place is proof that you shouldn’t do it. Rice is meant to be stirred and steamed so that it doesn’t come out soggy and in chunks. The rice and peas in this place was exactly like that, I had to glance down on the plate to see if what I was seeing was real. The next issue was the way they prepared their stew chicken. It is NOT AUTHENTIC. They did not use any browning sauce and it seemed they used a bunch of tomato sauce and called it a day. The only thing that I enjoyed was the macaroni salad, which, if you’re running a Jamaican restaurant and macaroni salad, which is not a Jamaican dish, is the best tasting thing on the plate, you’re doing something wrong.

The worst… I went last night hungry as ever, purchased a large fry chicken and received a large rice and peas with a piece of fry chicken… This restaurant is infamous for over packing rice, also got an carrot juice… I mean essence juice I didn’t taste no carrot… It was orange but so full of essence you couldn’t taste what you ordered… Last night was the last straw… Enough is enough, times are too hard to be taken advantage of in these times… Give the customers the right amount of food they pay for!!! Chuh… I’m Jamaican and it’s a Jamaican restaurant so I was trying to patronage the restaurant but I will not give no props when it’s not deserved… Stop teef d people dem…

The death stares I receive when I enter this place is just unbearable. They got rid of pretty much MOST of the good people and hired a bunch of bi-​polar coconuts!!!
The food is good and all (I like the jerk chicken, the fried chicken with the sweet sauce, the coconut rice and peas, the oxtail, and the spicy rasta pasta) BUT the service is iffy sometimes and turns me away.
They never reveal who THE OWNER is when I’m having an issue with them. I once had TO YELL at them cause they wouldn’t give me what I wanted and I knew they had it.
ALSO a select few men who (worked or works) there are PERVERTS!!! Came there with a female friend many times and when we could wait for our food by the cakes and other sweets they would shift the cakes around in the glass container to look at their CROTCH. I won’t say any names but the Fat black chef with the dreads was the WORST out of the other pervs…
A guy name MARVIN and another light skin guy with short hair and tattoos (wears a hat sometimes) serves the food the best. Just make sure you are specific about what you want in your food and remind them just in case.
I don’t tolerate the rude attitude cause I am never rude to them.
Come here before 6pm and you might get decent service. Some of the people who mostly work late nights are devils!!!

Good food. I love the oxtail, the curry goat, & everyone loves their macaroni salad. The fried chicken wings are pretty good too. Downside: long lines, and at times

When I first went service was terrible but now I’m a regular and I love there oxtail and macaroni salad. There fried chicken is also to die for. Weekends are an extremely long wait, but once you get your food, it’s worth it

The food is ok if you want something cheap. no complaints because of the prices they have.

Now we all know that Caribbean restaurants are a dime a dozen in Brooklyn. When it comes to C&J its amazing how many people actually wait on line for their food. I think it’s a few reasons. They rarely run out of food even at 10pm at night (they close around 3am). They are a good selection of food to choose from and they also have their famous mac salad. The prices are reasonable. You can’t ask for much more from a Caribbean take out restaurant.

Yall are cut off! Nasty ass workers and sloppy prepared food! Walked in and everyones faces was TIGHT! The cashier was frigging ridiculous talking to patrons as if we are their underlings. I said wait this is not the first time these people are acting like I am Oliver. «Please sir I want some more?» I ordered and something hit me, I walked out after demanding they give me my money back and went to the restaurant i should have went to in the first place. This place is up the block actually 4 blocks on Nostrand between Martense and Church is Caribbean Vibes and they are 1000% better than a C and J! Never again will I step foot in C and J! I learned how to make the macaroni salad from a former employee sooooooooo I won’t be need them for that either!

The food is amazing and always hot. This is a great Togo place and a true Jamaican restaurant. The lines can get a bit long but for a bite on the run I’d recommend here. Don’t bother sitting in to eat because the tables are always filled with customers waiting for their orders.

Came through the intersection of Church and Utica and took the first sign of street parking I could find — added bonus the meter was out of order!
When in Brooklyn– East Flatbush to be exact it’s not hard to find a West Indian place, I saw another but it had a «B» in the window, pass.
This place is small, a man inside was selling reggae mixtapes (CD’s) and it was pretty busy with customers. A long glass display with baked goods and then sides for your meals. The main dishes are in the back to be brought out, then the sides. The menu was typical Jamaican fare, I did not see any roti dishes.
They have three different sizes (S-​M-​L) for takeout only, they have about three booths for people to eat, but I didn’t see anyone eating there. At the very end of the counter is a cash register and a lady who takes your order then gives you a receipt and then you wait for your food to be brought out. Pretty standard for the area. I waited about 5 mins for my food.
I had a small oxtail ($ 8) with white rice, I asked for less rice and more salad — I don’t think that was relayed to kitchen staff — I just got a whole bunch of salad packed on top of the rice and oxtail. It was OK I have definitely had better the oxtail was not fall off the bone tender, the gravy was seasoned well, rice nice and fluffy. I also got a small beef soup, everyday has a different soup. This was really good and tasty, I love Jamaican soups they are so hardy. $ 3.50 for a small which was probably a 32 oz cup filled with 4 – 5 big pieces of beef, soft dumplings, chayote, yam and carrots! They have some $ 5 small meals too — fried, stewed, jerk or curry chicken! I saw them coming out and they were packed to the brim!
I think I have been here before, and will definitely come again (as long as you can find street parking)
