It’s a diner and open late. I came here for breakfast after a late night. It must have been like 4 am. I kept it standard, as I’ve learned to do at these type places. My eggs, sausage and home fries were just what I needed. A friend’s steak and eggs was just okay, but another raved about his chicken Parmesan. The guy was sleepy, but nice enough. Our food came quickly and the prices were decent. Perfect for a late night eat, but do keep your order simple.

Late night chicken and waffles at 3am, solid. There was hardly anyone there, but pretty much only place that was open.

About seven years ago, I had roughly six encounters with the actor Peter DInklage in a two year period. Considering the fact that I live in Portland Maine, it was a curious thing. I thought a lot about this at the time and finally concluded that there must be some cosmic meaning, some reason this kept happening. Ultimately, thoughts around this faded as time passed. To be honest, I had all but forgotten the whole thing, until three days ago, on New Year’s Day on my way to the Carroll Gardens Classic Diner for breakfast with my kids. I pulled up to the light, and there on the corner laughing with his dog, was Peter Dinklage! I turned the corner, found a parking spot immediately and with a feeling of wonder entered the diner. We were immediately greeted at the door and led to a super comfy booth. The staff was friendly and attentive and the menu HUGE. The coffee arrived in under a minute. Three of us ordered souvlaki/gyro dishes and they were all plentiful and well made. The tsatziki sauce was excellent. My daughter got a waffle with sausage and could not finish it. About half way through our meal, I thought the following thoughts: This is an old school type diner, the kind that existed all over the city 30 years ago The food was great and reasonably priced There was absolutely no rush for us to leave The coffee was bottomless I absolutely loved the Carroll Gardens Classic Diner. The next time I am in the neighborhood, I plan on eating here way more often. I wish this diner could be teleported to Portland, Maine. There were lines outside of many other hipster brunch places, reminding me so much of the Portlandia brunch episode. Some day if you find yourself waiting in line somewhere else in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor, and head over to the CGCD.

Racist!!! I tried to order and even though i have ordered before they refused because and i quote«you live in the projects and i can’t make the delivery guys go there because they are scared». First of all i don’t live in the projects but that’s not the point. If i did live in the projects and they were in the delivery zone the diner HAS to deliver. They cannot discriminate because of race, gender or economic standing. This place is like a throw back to before the civil rights movement. Diplomacy dude! Let’s not wear your racism so prominently. Ban this place!!!

Food took 50 minutes. 20 mins just to take the order. No free refills even after a long wait. Waiter brought food out in a weird order. He brought the pickles and slaw that went with a sandwich that took 15 mins longer to arrive. Wish we checked Unilocal before going in. Just didn’t think a Brooklyn diner could be this bad.

I literally watched the cook clinch(spit) on two sandwiches, when I confronted the manager he laughed it off.

Deceptive pricing is actually a 40% mark-up over online menu. If you’re eating here, it must be because it’s the only place in the neighborhood open after 11:00pm. Be aware that the actual pricing is a 40% mark-up to what is listed online, and is also a markup above what is on the printed menus inside the restaurant. The staff was apathetic to the issue, going so far as to question what site would show the different menu prices(yes, it was that obscure site called ‘Google’ that few people use). No price justifies the poor quality food — your money is better spent on a cup of expired instant noodles from the bodega up the street.

I take back everything I said about the chicken fingers. In the sober light of another day, these are perhaps the worst chicken fingers I’ve ever had. Things said about these chicken fingers when we ordered them recently: «These remind me of gas station chicken fingers.» «They are like finger-sized chicken McNuggets, but worse.» «Ugh.» Those are not good things. Don’t get me wrong, we still ate them all because we had already paid for them and we are gluttons, but next time I’m trying to be fat and unhealthy, I can’t deal with such nonsense. I’m just going to just stick with mozzarella sticks. Those were almost OK.

I have lived here for seven years. The place has become disgusting. Two out of the last four times we went there to eat I found a hair in the middle of my cheese. And the owner who has never been friendly to begin with wasn’t even the slightest bit apologetic. Then he came outside the diner as I was leaving to yell at us for not paying for the other entrée that didn’t have the hair in it. Had two bites max of that. I seriously thought he was kidding. Because when I left I said thank you but I’m not paying for this meal this time. The guy has seen my face and knows me well. And this is the way he treats me. I even left a tip for the waitress.

Decent food, horrible service. The employees simply make it an unpleasant place to eat. I’m not sure whether it comes from management or not but it is nigh impossible to get a check or a coffee refill without shouting across the restaurant at the group of dudes hiding behind the counter or simply standing or sitting with their backs facing you. They do just about everything in their power to ignore you, avoid eye contact, and make it difficult to politely gain their attention for any type of service. I really wish I had a better diner option close to my apartment because it is such a chore to eat here. Also, their toaster is crap and doesn’t toast the bread. I hate that!

Came here with my bestie. We weren’t rushed to leave after finishing and paying which is super awesome. I hate that feeling of being pushed out. However it was late at night haha. But still. Great dinner food. Comfy booths. Perfect for late night eating.

Pardon the outdatedness of this review, I just remembered I’d never documented a horrendous visit. Summer 2010, ordered the nachos, received some chips topped with dry crumbly ground beef and Kraft singles. I kid you not. I hope it’s improved since then.

Totally forgot about this place! It’s a diner, sure, but they class it up a bit. I almost feel like I gotta behave more. Plus, they have outdoor seating, which is a cute touch. I have never come here at night. It strictly a day time thing. So, my buddies and I are usually the most obnoxious in the room.

This review is for the delivery service. It was almost 11pm and we were hungry after a night of drinking. It was rainy and cold and I didn’t feel like getting out of my pajamas and my friend was craving a chicken salad sandwich. We order the chicken salad club, french fries, jalepeno poppers and souvlaki wrap with extra tziki sauce on the side. The tziki is super yummy and a great condiment for the fries. The fries were pretty good, and arrived warm and not soggy. My friend loved the club sandwich and was grateful to satisfy the craving. My wrap was just alright, a bit dry and fell apart, but once again it hit me where I wanted. The jalepeno poppers were good(there weren’t any left) but weren’t quite spicy enough for us, and the sauce was lacking. I actually like the poppers with the tziki sauce as well. I would order from here again, 1-because they have 24 hour delivery 2-because it came within 30 minutes and 3-because the food was good and they remembered the extra sauce on the side!

This is the worst restaurant ever. Ignore the 30−45min deliver window. I have never received a meal in less than an hour and a half. And when you call to get a delivery status they say«it shld be there any minute» 20 min later, still waiting. This has happened about a 6 times. I was giving them one more shot tonight, 2 hours later still no meal. How hard is it to make chicken fingers and fries? The 2nd time I called to ask where the meal was he lied and said the driver left it w my doorman instead of delivering it. I called the doorman. Nope, all lies. When I called to complain that I paid $ 20 and have no food, the manager said, «so don’t eat here anymore.» Nice customer service.

I got a salmon omelet for breakfast and a cup of coffee. All ingredients tasted very fresh and the sides were delicious. Coffee was refilled very frequently and was also freshly brewed, in contrast to the usual burnt diner coffee in other places. Patio seems great and I’ll check it out next time. The staff was very polite and coming over to check only if necessary. Great place to hang out 24⁄7 with friends and countless choices for food and drink. I completely recommend the Carroll Gardens!

If you’re looking for late night eats this side of Brooklyn, this might be your only option on Smith St. You’re bound to arrive here at a drunken hour, say…2:30 a.m. with a craving for grilled cheese or something greasy. No worries, this place can provide. It’s cash only(if I can properly recall) and the servers are nice enough. Would I say it’s the best diner around? No. But it serves its purpose: Providing drunk munchies for the masses.

I live in queens but travel to brooklyn frequently and Carroll Gardens Diner is my go-to place after a friend brought me there. I’ve been there multiple times and the breakfast is amazing but the one thing that I truly enjoy is the chicken francaise. The menu is very diverse however, if you are looking for a nice comfort meal… get the chicken francaise(honestly, it’s better than some of the italian restaurants that i’ve been too)… Its a decent sized portion that is served with either pasta or potato and vegetable… opt out for the linguini! I like to add the francaise sauce on the linguini :)
