Cathy’s Place

Never been a regular at this place, but I usually eat in a couple of times a year. Today I ordered one of their specials and spent a whole hour waiting for my food. Went in when there were only 3 other patrons eating in. By the time I left, the place was packed and everyone that got there after me was served. In fact people finished eating and left, and here I am still waiting. I couldn’t take it anymore and asked to get the meal to go. Ok, nightmare over, right? No. Go to pay to get charged a completely different price than advertised and was given the wrong change. After asking for the correct change, I’m given an extra dime and a dirty look. I guess they can keep the dollar change, it’s the price to never set foot in this place again.

I remember this place from when I was a little boy. Simply nothing had changed from then.

I have eaten at the finest placed in town this place is like eating in a DUMPSTER as one enters the door the waiters yelling from the deep in the Kitchen screaming «can I Help you…» A rather large lady with an attitude show up commenting to the cook how she is so busy working three jobs loudly I have to go to shoprite after this pick up the kids go back to shoprite until then go do my other job to night and then come back here to start over flopping a dirty worn menu in front of me what do you want ?
I ask for a plain waffle eggs and turkey bacon… a few minutes go by a the waffle comes alongside the turkey bacon comes burned waffle bacon burned along with the eggs nevertheless the bill was issued $ 13.75 I couldn’t eat due to her ghetto attitude … I noticed out the corner of my eye a mouse under the table a lady I wanted to say something… So here it is Don’t risk getting food poisoning… I also noticed there grade is pending they need not be operating a restaurant… As I said it like eating in a Dumpster

Nice to have a friendly diner near the R train and B8 bus. Dropped by for a Greek Burger with Feta cheese on Peta bread. The burger was tasty. Liked the red onion slice instead of the typical white one. The waitress is a real sweetheart. She makes you feel like family. Know wonder Cathy’s Place has a loyal following. Good food and service brings people back.

I love this place. Great place to go out for breakfast in an affordable way. Casual environment, nothing fancy, but bang for the buck. This place has regulars for years, and the servers know you even after a few visits.

Our family loves going here. They have great milkshakes, burgers, fries, etc. My husband and I always split a pastrami Reuben and leave stuffed! The atmosphere is always very friendly. It is a wonderful classic neighborhood diner. The food is consistent and delicious!

Love Cathy and Lauren! They treat my family like their own! Food is amazing breakfast is my favorite there. Both dine in and delivery is highly recommended!!!

Exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood diner. Prices are great and the portions are large. The quality is about what you would expect from a diner. I always order from this place, and the order is always correct and delivered promptly. Recommended highly!!!

Had wheat toast french toast with turkey sausage and egg whites… It was DELISH… coffee not so great but who cares its super cheap!

Straight up no thrills type of joint in Brooklyn. This family owned diner is a cozy neighborhood place to get something fresh and affordable.
I came from my doctors and wanted breakfast so I decided to stop by. The waitress had a typical Brooklyn accent and sat me down with a cup of coffee.
I ordered an egg and cheese omelet and it came out hot & ready within five minutes of my order. It’s nothing special but that’s the point! It felt like something my mom would make. It was simple but yet delicious. Most importantly the feel and comfort of this joint makes it feel homemade.
The prices are good too! I would come back again.

Only had breakfast delivered from here but we ordered pancakes, corned beef hash and eggs, cream cheese and bacon omelet and muffins. everything was delicious and huge portions nobody could finish their meal. the pancakes were great! Omelet was HUGE so was the bagel. couldnt finish either. will definitely order from them again

Once had a turkey burger disgusting could not eat it although I hear the breakfasts are good great coffee

Friendly server. Bargain prices.
Oatmeal and bananas were good.
Chocolate chip pancakes were excellent.
Kitchen didn’t have trouble poaching eggs, as many do these days.
Seems like a wonderful neighborhood place.

A pleasant neighborhood diner that is a nice choice when you don’t feel like dealing with any fast food joints or the nearby Bridgeview Diner. Recently popped into the place when a friend was seeking breakfast and didn’t feel like the «30 minute» wait that Bridgeview told us. It was a holiday so to be expected. Anyway, since he was seeking eggs a burger place was out of the question.
Cathy’s Place is on the small side but cozy and has several booths and a nice sized counter for those who wish to dine there. After placing the order a couple of coffees came out. The order that my buddy made did seem to take a little longer but I assessed it was based on all the take out orders being prepared. There seemed to be quite a few deliveries being done. It was New Years Day after all and I guess many were too hungover to go out.
While I was not eating yet and had plans for later, I will say that I almost broke that decree when his eggs and sausage came out. Man did that smell good and looked like a nice portion. It was interesting to know that they also own the neighboring pizzeria and when its asked for will serve their customers pizza if they want it. There was no WiFi signal sadly but that is a minor concern. I’ll update this Unilocal when I sit down and actually eat as opposed to being The Watcher (that’s a comic book reference for those who don’t realize).

The bottom line on Cathy’s Place is that it’s a very affordable neighborhood diner with service that takes some getting used to. It’s like the opposite of The Melting Pot. There’s a utilitarian «whaddya want» attitude in the air, at least as a non-​regular. But the food tastes great and is cheap for a BK breakfast.
I stopped by for breakfast with my wife and kids on a sunny morning. It wasn’t busy. We seated ourselves. I got french toast with sausage and eggs over easy. My wife got corned beef hash, and we ordered pancakes for the kids. It’s great diner food. And the prices were a lot lower than I expected. The server forgot part of my order, but the waitress spotted the error before I brought it up. In the end this is a good alternative to pricey food in the area, at least for breakfast.

Charming servers, great coffee and a fair price. Definitely the place to go to get your morning fixing.
One observation — Juice servings are tinny.

As far as Diners go, this is very good. I’ve only had breakfast food so I can say decent food, better than usual coffee, timewarp ‘huh?’ prices and no-​nonsense service. It’s not big so eat at the counter, wait or leave.
January 2014 Update: I have to bring this down a star. Going in on a Saturday at 2pm with very few other patrons and we had to wait 45 minutes for our order to arrive and then mine came first and my friend’s came a full 10 minutes later. We’re talking a burger and a breakfast, nothing elaborate. We never got our sodas, either. Diners are supposed to be faster than that.

Well, unless you’re known in the community here in Bay Ridge, it’s not worth stepping into Cathy’s Place. I popped in on a Friday night while doing my laundry down the street, hoping to grab a quick plate of pasta. I wish I hadn’t bothered. Horrible food and some of the most unfriendly service I’ve had in NYC.
There was a single surly waitress, Kay, whose name I only knew because some of the other patrons seemed to know her and would address her by name. After I walked in and sat down (no «welcome,» thanks for coming in,” or «have a seat wherever you like,» just stone-​faced silence), she brought the menu by, gave me about 30 seconds, and asked if I was ready. I wasn’t at that point. I put my menu down about 2 minutes later, but I guess she wasn’t ready then, and spent about another five minutes as she walked around, passing by me repeatedly, without checking in or giving me the opportunity to flag her down.
Once I finally went to order, I was informed that the price was not the same as it was listed in the menu. I went with it, not wanting to have to wait again if I changed my mind.
I ordered the chicken parm, my standard diner go-​to, since they weirdly didn’t have spaghetti bolognese on the menu. It came out quickly, and was a decent-​sized portion, but it completely lacked any flavor whatsoever. The soda I got to drink was almost flat.
Seriously, you just have to be a little bit friendly to satisfy me; I don’t need to be coddled, but «you’re welcome» when someone says «thank you» goes a long way. If I’m ever down here again for laundry or at the gym, I’ll be sure to pass this place by.

My Daughter had to take a school test and I happened upon this place as I walked the neighborhood to kill time. Cute little diner. Friendly and attentive staff. I got the typical breakfast — Eggs, bacon, home fries and toast. Not bad (Kind of hard to screw up). I enjoyed the atmosphere so much, I took my daughter here when she was done with her test. She got the a pastrami sandwich. Which was delicious.
I don’t live close, but if I’m ever in the area again, I’d definitely go back.

Always enjoy this place.

These aren’t huge gigantor portions, more like servings you would make for yourself at home, but the prices are reasonable.
The soups are always hearty, with good «stock» and very flavorful.
Nice small counter. Friendly people.
Sometimes service is a little slow, if the crowd is at the max, but the food and cleanliness of this place always makes up for it.
