Ok… Not cheap but you absolutely get what you pay for; artisan quality, handmade knives that will make any chef who knows anything turn their heads in envy. It’s hard to justify spending $ 200-$ 300 or more on a single knife, but truthfully, you don’t need to be Mario Batalli to appreciate a fine tool once it’s in your hands. This guy does one thing(well to be accurate, he makes around 4 models as far as I cam tell). And he does it extremely well. It’s hard to quantify what a great knife does for you in the kitchen, but it’s dramatic. Most people cook regularly. Most people drive regularly as well. You could dramatically change your everyday driving experience by buying a Ferrari. Alternatively, you could change your everyday cooking experience dramatically for a few hundred bucks.

For my 800th review, I have to write about something special. Here goes: What can you get someone who can afford pretty much anything he wants and usually when he wants something, he just buys it for himself? This person is a foodie who has an extreme love for cooking and is actually really good at it. For Eugy, I decided to get him a professional chef’s knife, thanks to the recommendation from AJ. Thanks AJ! Eugy has 2 good knives at the moment. Both 7″ santoku knives. No french knife though. Not sure why. So when AJ told me about CutBrooklyn, I immediately looked it up. Decided to give them a call. It was a Saturday afternoon in NY and I hoped someone would answer the phone. A few rings then I get a «Hello?». Um, is this Cut Brooklyn I ask. Guy on the phone, «yep!». So I go into detail about what I’m looking for and why. I spend a good 20 minutes on the phone with who I later learn is Joel, the genius behind CutBrooklyn. I tell him that I’m going to give it some thought over the weekend and possibly place my order with him on Monday. After some thought, I decided that yes, I am going to get Eugy a 7″ french knife from him. He was nice and very explanatory. It just seemed like a good investment. I was told that the making of the knife takes some time so if I wanted it ready for early August, I should place my order soon(which was then at the end of June). Over the next month Joel and I kept close contact through email. He always answered my seemingly silly questions and even agreed to put a «care instructions» note along with the knife. And before no time, one Saturday morning I get a knock at the door. It’s FedEx with a package fresh from the east coast containing Eugy’s knife!!! It is gorgeous! Steel never looked so sexy! From everything to the blade to the hand picked pins to the handle. It just oozes sexiness!!! And most of all, Eugy absolutely loved it! I couldn’t be happier. Joel is an awesome guy and his knives are amazing. Every single detail has been picked and plotted very carefully. This is one purchase that I will cherish forever! Thanks Joel for everything! PS CutBrooklyn comes with lifetime servicing. Send it back to him every six months for a good sharpening and cleaning. Can’t beat it.
