Top Notch Auto Repair

Mohammed has provided me with great service at great prices, and doesn’t gouge his customers. Quite the contrary, at times he has fixed little things he has found along the way without even charging me.
My experience has been that he is very honest. I have an innate distrust of most auto shops because of some bad experiences in the past, but whenever I’ve asked a friend who owns an auto shop out of town if I’m getting a good price, he usually says that what I’m being offered is in fact a great price, especially for the city. Plus, Mohammed is a very likable guy and a pleasure to do business with.
To the person who complained about the way someone answered the phone when she called– give me a break. Have you ever tried answering the phone at an auto shop with all kinds of power tools and other noise in the background? You should be ashamed for giving a poor review to such hard-​working, honest people– ESPECIALLY when you’ve never had any work done here! Go back to whatever bridge or tunnel you emerged from. The last thing Park Slope needs is yet another entitled trust fund brat.

Mohammed has kept me on the road for years. Reliable for repairs big and small and maintenance too. Would never go anywhere else and recommend all friends.

Mohammed is the best. I went to him on the recommendation of two neighbors after taking my Jeep in for a routine oil change at a local chain store and having them tell me I needed a ton of work done. He was quick, thorough, and most importantly — honest. The chain store told me I needed over $ 2500 in repairs and Mohammed changed the oil and replaced a rusted wire in the brake lights — for $ 145. I will definitely go back. As someone who knows nothing about cars, it’s nice to be able to trust a mechanic.

So in full disclosure, I’ve never gone here. Why? Because when I called, the guy yelled «HELLO!!!»…I asked if this an auto repair shop (he seemed annoyed at having to answer the phone)…he said «YEAH, GzzRRRZZ HOLD ON» then hung up on me. I called back twice, he never picked up the phone. Really? REALLY? My own feeling on this is «aw he! no!», and I’d give you negative stars, but my friend really swears by this d1 $%, so I’m guessing you’re having a bad day. Too bad, I was looking for a new mechanic.
I feel like Goldilocks and the 100 Bearish Mechanics… you know the story, every shop is «this Mechanic is too expensive», «this Mechanic doesn’t know his wrench from his elbow», «this Mechanic is a scary Bear and hates women». Where’s the mechanic that’s just right? I’ve been searching for 25 years, I think it’s actually harder than finding an apartment in this overpriced city. Starting to regret not saying «yes» to the mechanic who kept asking my out…

Mohammed is really friendly and honest. Very happy with his repairs and pricing. Considering the volume of cars he gets in a day, the turn around is very fast. I had compared pricing for 3 independent repair shops and I thought his prices were excellent. Had my timing belt, water pump, engine mount done using my own parts.
He’s okay with you bringing your own parts in which comes out even cheaper, although you’re gambling a little since you’re not getting any warranty with the repair. ALSO in the event you’re missing a part he’ll have to order it anyway and the car is sitting on the lift waiting for parts. Which is wasting lift time for him to take in another car.
Be sure to tip the workers appropriately.

6 pm, Monday. I emerge from my job (I work in a public school) to find a ticket on my car. What for? I was in a legal space. Aha — inspection sticker expired. And my wife needs to drive out of town tomorrow for two days — accumulating tickets each time she parks on the street.
It’s 6:45 by the time I’m back in Brooklyn, and Top Notch is the only place open (but they close at 7). They kept the place open to finish my inspection and didn’t even try to charge an overtime fee, which I would have happily paid. They were so nice — explaining that I can probably get out of the ticket if I include the receipt (which I wouldn’t have thought of).
Saved my ass

Pur car Broke down around the corner from this shop and they were the most helpful and nice.
They diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes and the car was ready at 8am the next day, even though we broke down after 6pm.
Their prices are fair and all the men working there were extremely nice and friendly and helpful.
This will be the mechanic we go to from now on, even though it’s not In my neighborhood. Would recommend to everyone.

I’ve gone here twice for my annual inspection based on the recommendation of a friend. Both times were excellent. I called this morning, the guy said he had time today, bring it in. I brought it in, he said two hours for inspection and oil change (he had a full garage); I stopped back after an hour-​and-​a-​quarter just in case, and it was done, parked out front. I stepped inside, he gave me the key, told me what he had done, and took payment. In and out in under a minute. Excellent service like this should be rewarded.

Five stars is too few. Mohammed is honest, fast, he does great work, and he charges unbeatable prices.

I agree with everyone. Yes, Mohammed is the man! Been bringing my car (’95 Acura) here for six or seven years after various unsavory experiences elsewhere. Found out about Top Notch by asking car service drivers who they used for maintenance and repairs. Mohammed came up over and over again. Understandable, he always come in with an unbeatable price, finds impossible to find parts, finds ways to save you money with used parts (if you want them), and is just a warm, friendly, honest, and incredibly knowledgeable guy with a brilliant crew.

I never write reviews. That said, Top Notch is the best auto repair I’ve ever used. Mohammed is the man, and also super affordable.

Exactly like the name says. TOP NOTCH!!!
I had my car towed to Top Notch after I tried everything I could myself to fix it and it wouldn’t start. The car arrived at the shop at around 4:30. Right away the owner (who’s name is escaping me) told me to pop the hood so he could have a look. He knocked on the starter a few times while I tried to start it and it started right up. He concluded that I need a new starter, which I agreed with. It is now 4:40 and he is making a phone call to get the part. He then tells me the part is $ 110 (completely reasonable price for a starter for my car) and that the labor will be $ 85 (again, completely reasonable, one hour to fix the car at $ 85 an hour) and that the car will be ready in 2 hours (one hour for the part to be delivered, one hour to fix the car). So I leave the shop and come back at 6:40, and lo and behold, my car is back in action!
Unbelievable, a mechanic who was completely honest from the jump. A mechanic who looked at and diagnosed my car right away. A mechanic who had my car fixed within 2 hours of receiving it. What planet am I on right now?!?
I HIGHLY recommend this shop to anyone in Brooklyn who does not have a mechanic that they trust. I moved here about a year and a half ago from CT and have not been able to find a mechanic that I would recommend to anyone, until now. Hey, if taxi drivers take their cabs to this guy, then you know he must be good!

After trying many, many garages in the area, i was recommended to try Mohammad @ Top Notch. They are more than a field hospital for all the livery cars in the area, they really know what they are doing and they do it affordably. Their turnaround is superfast and they don’t try to upsell you into stuff you didn’t ask for.
I have brought 3 different makes of cars there over the years and they have serviced all of them with reasonable prices, good service and have ‘made good’ on things when they occasionally ‘went bad’.

Mohammed is honest and fast. I’ve been taking my car (2006 Honda Civic Hybrid) there for oil changes for years, and even though I’ve never done any major work on my car, he’ll take care of minor fixes on it for free. For example, after a road trip the plastic under carriage guard came loose (as it does on most Civics of that vintage due to crappy design), and he refastened it for free (a 15 minute job). I’ve been pretty happy so far with him.
Again, never done any major repairs with him but I like what I’ve seen so far.

Mohammed is the man! He is very efficient, does not overcharge you and your car is well done. I take my car to him (which is not new), and he does a great job with it. He always makes sure that you aren’t fixing things that don’t need to be fixed.

Mohammad is the best! He’s quick, efficient and friendly. He doesn’t overcharge or add on additional services. I’ve been to other mechanics in the area and Top Notch is by far the best.
