Remember dark, sweaty college parties filled with grinding, dancing drunk people? After 10 – 11PM on a Friday and a Saturday night, that is exactly what Friends and Lovers is. Don’t get me wrong. Dancing is great. Friends and Lovers has a special place in my heart. I don’t expect anything more from it though. The beer is not extraordinarily interesting, the lines for the bathroom are usually long, and the music is hit or miss. I recommend Soul Night usually held every other Saturday. Great music, nice vibe.

Awesome place! Came here for Trap Karaōke last night a ticketed event, I have no idea what the final count was but standing right in front of the stage I never felt packed in or stuck. The backroom with the stage was surprisingly big. I heard there is a backyard and I am looking forward to coming back to experience that. The event featured an open bar for an hour and the bar staff were pretty great too!

I’ve been at this place a few times. The great combination of bar and club. It’s very versatile, even though they do showcases with various artists and musicians, they can easily do poetry, comedy, or really anything he wanted. It’s a great place to go for music and dancing with the versatile and diverse crowd. Really hit the gem in the neighborhood. I highly recommend it.

I love the nice rustik look of this place. The stage area is great for live performances. The drinks are ok could be better, however, the bartender is very friendly. There’s a lady in the back who sell curry empandas delicious.

My first time at this amazing bar the bartenders, djs, security, was amazing. The space to dance awesome, restroom location easy to get to, backyard turned up! My friends Max, Deon, Chris, Paul all had fun!

I have to preface this two star review with the two times I’ve been to Friends and Lovers there has been great music and I’ve had a good time. Last night, however, a bartender named Curt actually threw a lime at me. It’s quite sad, actually, because I think he was trying to flirt but it was extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate. And when he threw a lime at me to try to get me to go dance I honestly couldn’t believe it. I wish there was a contact email address on the Friends and Lovers website because I would have preferred to handle this through a private email rather than having to give an unfortunate Unilocal review. I appreciate the music and the vibe there. I just recommend you evaluate what kind of people are representing your establishment. Curt was completely inappropriate with me.

What a cool spot. So happy i checked this place out(AKA was take here after attending a party at a friend’s nearby). Warehouse style venue with stage upfront, little outdoor smoking area and bar foyer right when you walk in. Arrived at around 12:30 and a bunch of people were dancing to some sort of reggae type electronic music. No lights but sound was good. A guy named Iemanjo was playing live trumpet over the DJ, which was awesome. Really diverse local and friendly crowd. Love finding new places like this in the less obvious parts of brooklyn. Descriptions from FB event: ’”Ade Soke” means Crown Up in Yoruba. We gather monthly in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights to celebrate global dance music, focusing on folkloric rhythms of the diaspora with soulful and electronic interpretations, mixed and selected for maximum dancing.’

Soul night is the shit! Amazing DJs, great crowd, just bring your dancing shoes. My only complaint is that the drink prices were a little high for what I would expect from a dive bar, especially in the area — I believe cocktails are around $ 10-$ 12 a pop — and depending on the night the crowd can get a little TOO sceney, but overall a good time with good music!

Best spot in in the neighborhood. They have amazing music, quality parties, and delicious drinks, plus it’s free most nights. Always good vibes, backyard hangs, and a diverse crowd. Check it out.

My favorite bar hands down in Brooklyn. Great vibes. Cheap drinks. Awesome diverse crowd. GREATMUSIC. GREATBACKYARD. I just love this place! Though I usually go when the same DJ is there, I’m sure you can’t go wrong any weekend night there. One tip is to go to the guy bartender, he’s the real MVP. I had a bad experience with the female Asian bartender, but no worries, my guy(I forgot his name :\) was there to be awesome enough to make up for her. Overall looooooove this place. Definitely recommend 100%.

This place has some great dance parties, a very diverse crowd, and it’s remote enough from Manhattan that it’s unlikely to draw Manhattan tourists. Great DJs. Only problem is that the bartenders have a hard time keeping up with a big crowd, seems like they don’t have enough working busy nights.

Cheap drinks, great music, excellent weekend dance party all the time. Plus it’s well-ventilated, and there’s a secret bathroom off the dance floor that’s always empty.(You’re welcome.)

The DJ’s played a nice set though crowded. There was a lady bartender who ruined the whole experience. Spent at least 30 min waiting on drinks, she purposely ignored my friends and I. We weren’t rowdy, rude or obnoxiously. Never gave us any eye contact and served people who just walked up before us. Once we finally got her attention she acted like she was inconvenienced. Did not feel the love from there.

The overall atmosphere is very welcoming, but the bartenders are very rude & unfriendly. My friend and I went this past Friday to hangout, the bartender was very nasty and did not speak in a manner that was suitable for his position. The music was ok & the place is very spacious mixed crowd. The drinks are a very reasonable price. I don’t think I will ever go back there due to the fact that the bartending service was horrible!

I can’t really speak to the quality of drinks or service here, as I came primarily to see a few local bands in the back. The bands, most of which I had seen before at other venues, sounded even more wonderful here than they have elsewhere. Friends and Lovers has a awesome sound system and is an overall great place to come hang and listen to some good music.

Where am I? Is this Williamburg? Wait no this is Crown Heights. Now that I’ve established where I am lets get down to the venue. Friends and Lovers is a random bar on an otherwise vacant part of Classon Ave. Its split into two sections — bar and stage/dance area. The bar area is dimly light with Christmas lights and candles. Fully stocked with liquor. In the back, there’s a stage and then an open dance floor. Lots of space to dance but it does get packed. Its def a place to let loose and NOT be a wall flower. OK! This isn’t a swanky club. Dance drink and have fun.

All I have to say is you should come here on a Saturday night — it’s soul night. My date and I had so much fun and it was refreshing to watch all you dreadful hipsters actually dance and enjoy some Curtis Mayfield and Gladys Night. Super fun, very romantic — I highly recommend it. Why the fuck is there only one toilet here? Do y’all know how long these chicks took in the bathroom? Not cool.

Charity is a great thing. Giving away money for nothing is good because it helps those people in need. However, I don’t believe I should just be giving the people at Friends and Lovers my money for nothing, because I don’t think it’s a good cause. This place offers the same product as some other spots in the neighborhood, but charges money or more money. The live acts here are nothing special. I’ve seen better shows at The Way Station or Branded. And they don’t even charge most of the time there. Here there’s a cover and I’m not sure why. It’s Brooklyn. Pay the band some money out of your money. They make plenty too. They charge way too much for beer. And they use poor ingredients for their cocktails and mixed drinks. Overall I don’t care for the place and have been disappointed on numerous of occasions.

My roomate stumbled upon this place on Saturday, August 9th and asked me to join him at the bar to check the place out. When I got there, it seemed pretty empty but we were there on the early side. They had a list of beers(all bottles or cans no tap). $ 6 for a bottle of warm beer… OK. We sat at the bar trying to figure the place out. The design of the place looks like someone started the job and finished in a hurry… strange. But I soldiered on, my roomate left and I stayed and had another(still warm) beer. The bartender bought me a shot. I stuck around in hopes to hear the DJ since the band that was playing was not well versed in replicating the musical inspiration of Nirvana. I tried to start a conversation up with the couple sitting next to me. The woman asked me if I was gay and would I like to talk to her friend… interesting…I walked away. 20 minutes later the bouncer comes over to me and asks me to talk to him outside. I walked outside and he said I had to leave. I asked him why and he said the owner wants you to leave. When I asked for what reason he said he did not know. I took this as a blessing in disguise. As I was leaving the bouncer said, you know you can come back again… I said, why would I come back? He seemed surprised… as I walked away I saw the shimmering light disappear into the robe of the friscalating summer night and knew I was one of the lucky ones…
