Quick service, a typical Chinese bakery you would find around this area. I used to come here very often years ago when I had Chinese school on Saturdays. Now, not so often. The egg tarts here are one of my favorites on 8 ave. They’re very flakey and tastes very fresh. The milk tea here is cheaper than most bakeries at 1.75 for an iced milk tea. A little bit too sweet for my taste though(most bakeries tend to be like that). There’s some seating but most of the time it’s occupied by the elderly chatting or reading the news.

I consider myself to be somewhat of a Chinese bakery conisseur, and Gaoming is about as good as it comes. Just about everything on the menu is both delicious and reasonably priced. The egg tarts are UNREAL. If you’re in the area — — or anywhere in Brooklyn for that matter — — it’s definitely worth the trip.

I got the cutest Minion birthday cake from Gaoming for my little cousin over the weekend! It tastes freshly made and best among Chinese bakeries on 8th Avenue that I have tried. Also tried its coffee, I agree with the other review, it does have the best coffee in comparison to the other bakeries on 8th Avenue!!!

The pineapple buns here have a lot of that tasty cookie like topping –flaky and thick. I think they are the best I’ve had! Pretty average prices though.

Gaoming has the best coffee on 8th avenue! No doubt! Their coffee rivals the best of joe from any fancy foofed out shop you may find in other BK n’hoods like Park Slope, the Heights, Fort Greene,(insert other trendy area), but for a lot cheaper. Their steamed buns are also the best on 8th avenue… and not just a little better. They blow the doors off anything their competition has to offer. Get there early because the goodies go fast, as does any seating! Chances are you’ll find groups of older Chinese folks reading their newspapers while slowly sipping tea or coffee, and all during crossfire conversations, mostly in Cantonese.(No, they’re not yelling or mad… just talking). You really can’t go wrong with the food here. They have excellent noodles going for a dollar a plate in the early AM hours, but their steam buns have called me back time and time again, even after I moved from the neighborhood. My favorite steamed bun is the Dai Boa(pronounced«dye» and«bow» like«bow your head») which is loaded with vegetables, ground pork, Chinese sausage, and a hard boiled egg. It truly is a full breakfast packed into a soft steamy bun and all for a dollar. The char siu and choy yok boa are also top notch, filled with large chunks of meat(i.e. not fatty left over pieces you get at most places). You can’t beat their prices either(which are cheaper than the other chain-style bakeries on the higher numbered streets on 8th ave). If you live or work in the area(talking to you folks at Maimonides) hop on up to 51st street and hit up Gaoming for some of the best Chinese coffee in Brooklyn’s Chinatown. Of all the Chinese bakeries I have been to on 8th Avenue Chinatown, 18th Ave, Avenue U, Manhattan Chinatown, and Flushing, this is one of the best… easily in the top 2(the other being on Avenue U in Sheepshead Bay). Don’t hesitate… GONOW!
