Great place for a haircut and very affordable. With the quality of his work it’s no surprised that Gasper has been here for 47 years.

Excellent haircut. Attention to detail and not rushed. The barbers are very nice and the place has been around for decades. Very reasonable price for the quality. Recommend

Incredible old-school barbershop. I will be back here for my regular shave. Gasper and Peter are the best.

Walked in around 2:45p.m. Got a chair right away. Friendly, efficient, thorough and professional. Can’t ask for much more for $ 15. He even offered me holiday cookies from a local bakery. Great experience.

Being new to the city and still going through keratinization(you are, too! Google it.), I decided it was time to get a hair cut. Actually, I needed them all cut. Unilocal gracefully pointed me towards Gasper Como so I hopped on my bike and made the short trek to Williamsburg. I walked in and was second in line… no wait, I’m in New York now so it’s ‘on line’ rather. Anywho, as soon as I heard him talk, I knew this guy was old school. He finished up the first guy(whom he talked to in Italian), then the second guy, and then it was my turn. All in less than half an hour. He’s fast. Gasper asks me how I’d like my cut so I whip out my iPhone and show him. It’s a picture of me with a good length on top to keep it messy and short on the sides to still look clean for the ladies(there’s no ladies [forever alone]). He takes a quick look and goes at it. Now, I’ve shown this same picture to other barbers and they’ve mostly all proceeded to go ahead and give me the Mr. Clean, the Michael Jordan, or the Kojak if you’re old enough. And being the Socially Awkward Penguin that I am, I usually say«Thanks, it’s perfect» and then go home and asses my hat situation for the next month. Gasper, however, got it. Through the normal, friendly chit chat I learned he has been in the same spot for 40+ years so he definitely knows his way around a head of hair. He’s quick, amiable, and well priced so I’ll definitely come back when it’s time to deal with my keratinization again(did you Google it?).

The long walk is worth it for the quality and price. Besides, what with little hair I have it doesn’t make sense to spend a fortune at those Hipster haircut joints.

Went to Gasper Como for a shave. First time I’d ever gotten one. It was like going back in time. GC has been in the same shop, doing his thing for 44 years. Not even kidding. GC did a fantastic job. Definitely worth the experience.

If you’re looking for an old-school barber experience — which these days is harder to find — then Gaspare will give you a real-deal traditional cut, hot shave your neck with a flat razor, powder you with talcum that smells like your grandfather, and charge you all of $ 13. For those of you«men» who tend to frequent the salon, a real barber experience is a must, even if it’s not something you feel like everytime. And anyway, salons can never get the old-school cuts as good as Gaspare can.

Needed to find a barbershop in my hood since I would no longer be frequenting my regular shop by my old job. After some brief research, I decided to check this place out. The shop was tiny but cozy. Like other reviewers stated, old-school, friendly Italian barbershop. With new school Playboy mags. Oh yes. My haircut is fairly simple, but Gasper did an excellent job in an efficient manner. He told me his normal hours are 6:30AM — 5:00PM Tues — Sat, but I happened to luck out and find him at the shop on a Sunday morning. Call ahead, and if he’s around you might be able to stop in for a cut. Definitely coming back for my next cut.

It’s listed as a barber shop, but should be cross referenced under«Local Color.» I went to Gaspare’s just because I grew up in this neighborhood and have never had the official Italian barbershop experience. Well now I have. I wasn’t all that specific about the type of cut I wanted and I walked out with what I can only describe as «The Sicilian» — the haircut of my grandfather and his grandfather before him, for better or worse. I’ll admit I washed out the blowdry– gel-comb-back as soon as I got home. But with some $ 22 «hair mud» I got from my usual homo-fabulous stylist it looks pretty good. I got a shave too, which was cool, since he does it old style with the warmed foam, towel and straight razor. Also, he did the whole thing — haircut and shave — in about ten minutes with only the razor and a pair of old style scissors — no clippers or anything. It was like some kind of barber tornado, with hair flying everywhere. Including a minute or two for him to run outside and yell at someone who was trying to steal the mattress that he just had delivered. A stack of very old playboy magazines are included in the waiting experience — which I can only assume is the reason he turned my mother away when she asked him to cut her(very similar) style.

5 minutes into my first cut at Gasper Como, Gasper was on the phone, placing a bet on a race horse. When his horse lost badly, I feared Gasper might express his disappointment through his clippers, leaving me with a flat-top, or racing stripes, instead of the simple clean cut I was hoping for. Even though my $ 12 came nowhere close to covering his losses, Gasper composed himself, and delivered a quality cut. Don’t expect to emerge a new man from Gasper Como, beaming with haircut-confidence. For $ 12, I expect my head to look a little strange for that first week after a haircut. Still, for the price, you can’t go wrong, and you’ll be back to looking like normal in no-time flat. With big barber-shop glass windows, old-timey chairs, and a stack of Playboys for reading material, Gasper Como is an anachronistic neighborhood gem. Plus, if you visit Gasper’s during the holidays, you’ll even get a free shot of booze.

Amazing old-school guy who knows his way with the scissors. Spent his time on the details. Finished up with a straight razor neck shave. And it was only $ 12. It doesn’t get any better than that.
