Giando On the Water

This is only for the location. Not the kind of food you would expect with such an amazing location. The staff was very well mannered except for our steward. He kinda rushed us into placing an order. Ordered some shitty food that he recommended and one of the worst $ 200 spent. I would get cart food and sit on the banks of the Hudson than go in only for the view.
Read other reviews if you don’t believe me.

Had great time a Giando On the Water when I gave a retirement party for a dear friend on 5÷1÷16. The staff was very accommodating and treated my entire party well. Thank you to John and Joe who also assisted me with planning the event. The view is Awesome!

Amazing views of course, especially if you have dinner at sunset! Food was okay, nothing too special. The service was eh for a not-​so-​crowded night in the regular dining room. Seems to be more geared towards events rather than dinner. Would probably be an amazing event there, purely because of the view!

The only reason I rate this place a 2 was because of the stunning view otherwise it would be a 1. The food was ok but the service was awful. Right after getting legally married at the local courthouse my husband and I decided to go to Giandos for our first meal as husband and wife. It was around 3pm, the place was empty, which would have been romantic, but the waiter did not tend to us. We had to flag him down for water. Probably wouldn’t go back, very disappointing.

A few months ago my wife, son and myself went here to eat. We go out to eat a lot esp. a lot of different Italian Restaurants decided to give this place a try since I know many ppl that have told me the food is great… And guess what!!! It was, we had several different pasta dishes, chicken, meat, calamari, etc. and I have, not one bad thing to say about the food. Maybe for the first time in a long time going to diff rest. I always have some complaint about the food or service or both, but this place everything we ordered was really good !!! Very classy, inside was elegant, good service, great views… Today we went out to eat at an old favorite spot a few blocks away from here and let me tell you how I regret not coming here instead the other place disappointed me a lot smh. wish I would have went here today instead :(!!!

I was here in June for my sisters wedding and the was amazing! Outside has a gorgeous view of the skyline, and the inside is just as beautiful. I was in the wedding the wait staff was extremely helpful with everything my sister needed. The cocktail was a huge hit, my family still talks about the bacon wrapped scallops.

I had my senior prom here and this place was great. Beyond beautiful view, especially at night. Food was delicious and great staff and the hall is gorgeous, upstairs or downstairs. I’ll be back, especially for the fried calamari.

My wife and I attended a large rehearsal dinner party here in December. It was fantastic! The food was delicious and the view is breathtaking. The staff were kind and quick. We would definitely eat there again!

I attended this restaurant at least twice already for various functions, I wish I could recall the particulars for the first even other than I remember it being pretty good.
First off, the location is AMAZING! Situated right off the water sets up for all types of great photos and memories. Backdrop of the Williamsburg Bridge is breathtaking.
During the cocktail hour, I didn’t appreciate about a minute or so after the time ended, I asked the bartender for a drink and he rejected my request, really asshole, a minute or 2 late and I can’t be served a drink so you can socialize with your co-​workers. I wish I knew who you were to put your name out there. Rules are rules but thousands of dollars paid and I’m a guest and I couldn’t get a drink because I was on the wrong side of the hour.
Besides that’s I’ll cut right to the steak, the shell steak was ridiculously amazing. It may have been the best steak I’ve had in at very least, a long time! Cooked perfectly, flavored spot-​on and I was angry no more. I would come back… on the strength of that steak alone!!!

I booked my sons baptism here about 4 months ago. The first major issue I had with this place is the gentlemen we spoke to (John?) would not allow us to display the cake. I have had a ton of parties before and have never heard such a thing. I wanted to take pictures in front of the cake with the godparents but because I had my heart set on this place I let it go and I decided to book the party.
We had the party this past Sunday and I was so disappointed! The party was suppose to start at 12. I got there at 10:45 to start getting everything ready. When I got there for some reason they had coffee cups on all the tables which made them look over crowded. I told the maître d’ to get rid of the cups and suddenly he disappeared as well as all of the other waitresses. Myself and my 2 brother in laws started taking the cups away.
At 11:30 some of my guest started showing up and at this point the table numbers were still not displayed. The table cards were also not displayed. My husband complained to one of the workers and she proceeded to put the table cards out however she put the wrong cards, they were from another party! I was very embarrassed since I was running around telling my guest where they should be sitting.
Unfortunately due to hurricane Joaquin the weather was very cold in the beginning of the party. Our party was downstairs where the patio is so our party was an indoor/​outdoor party. When we first got there the tent (the had put them up because of the weather) was open and it was freezing! My poor 6 month old son was so cold and when my guest got there no one would take of their jackets because it was freezing I had to ask them to close the opening of the covered patio. Again very embarrassing!
Back to the cake they finally gave in and displayed the cake but they told us they wouldn’t write on it. My husband bought his own gel to write on the cake and since he has great handwriting he knows how to write on cakes. Well when arriving they told us they would write on the cake and they had asked us what we wanted on it. Well when the cake came out it looked like a 5 year old wrote on it! I didn’t understand why they would write on the cake if clearly they didn’t know how to! We were willing to do it ourselves.
Now the buffet is open and everyone lines up (we had over 100 people there so the line was long) ten minutes into it they ran out of dishes and everyone had to wait roughly 10 minutes for them to bring out more!
They didn’t put the right amount of chairs on each table so people were standing waiting for them to add more chairs. Meanwhile I gave them all the information a week before the actual party!
I know they say you get what you pay for and believe me I paid a lot for a party of 120 people but you do pay for the view which is breathtaking. The food and the drinks were good as well. However I do not recommend this place for a party and I made sure to tell all my guest how disappointed I was with this place.

This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to have my wedding at Giando on the Water. From start to finish, it was an amazing experience. When we first consulted with Joe, it sounded too good to be true. Now that our special day is over, we can look back and say that Joe delivered everything he promised.
By now you already know that the views are going to be amazing. But what about the food, the staff, and all the little details?
The food was so delicious. There were SO many options for us to choose from for both the cocktail hour and the reception. Notables were the bacon-​wrapped scallops, penne a la vodka, and the cake! The drinks kept flowing, the food kept coming out, and yes, they even take care of the wedding cake. We chose hazelnut custard as our flavor. It was moist, not too sweet, not heavy, beautiful, and plentiful.
We heard nothing but good things from our guests throughout the entire event. An all-​around great time. Huge shoutout to Carmen and Alex for their help during our party too. You guys were great!!! Thanks for making our special day flawless! I would recommend Giando on the Water as a venue and a restaurant for anybody who wants to celebrate their special day without a hitch.

Beautiful river front space for any event (wedding, fundraiser, etc.) Food’s standard Italian catered fare, edible but it’s more about the ambiance. Service is great, they’ve been planning events FOREVER! They try to make all of your accommodation happen by suggesting adequate vendors. They’re reasonably priced. Seek to have your event on lower level, waterfront. Nothing can beat the view!

The food sucks! The pasta was as hard as a rock. How do you not know how to cook pasta? The chicken parm sauce was pizza sauce and it was disgusting. The only good thing about it is the view. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!

I’ve been going to Giando for years. The service is great, the view is amazing and the food is outstanding.

This place probably has one of the best views of Manhattan.
I freaked out on the valet when they told me that someone had to park our car for us, when I thought we could do it ourselves (I was anxious due to the other reviews on the site, saying that the valet had stolen things from the car).
The staff reassured me that everything would be okay. Shout outs to Johan for being calm and reassuring.
The staff is very attentive and the food is good.
Definitely will be coming back.

Breath taking view, we had dinner here with our staff. Staff enjoyed the meal very much. Was somewhat disappointed that they were not able to accommodate a gluten free person. We asked to speak to the chef and was told that he couldn’t help us that they had nothing gluten free in the menu. I understand you have nothing on the menu but you should be able to accommodate And make something upon request

Great location, right off the water. The ambience was warm and inviting. Décor is simple and elegant with the great view of New York skyline.
I had the New York Shell steak medium rare, paired with chianti. The combo was perfect on the palate.
Will definitely go there again :-)

The view is amazing. I came here for my friends wedding, and I was a part of their bridal party. So I was able to experience many different aspects of this place. First off, there’s only one penthouse suite for the bride. Groom and groomsmen needed to share with them. Penthouse is on the 3^rd floor which isn’t convenient to get to for the bride. The staff was nice overall and especially the bartenders. But ive been to many weddings and the maitra d’s at Giando were slacking. Guests were lost and things were not packed at the end of the party.
The food were bland and everything was overcooked. But yes, I think Giando succeeds solely because of the real estate and view of the skyline and bridges. Really made the wedding beautiful, I guess that’s the most important anyway.

I was here the weekend of July 12^th for an afternoon wedding & everything turned out really well.
The Bridal party waited upstairs before heading down, the waiting room was kind of small but comfy for us really nice view.
While waiting in the bridal room we had appetizeras to pick on, Delicous Brushetta, Good Bacon wrap Scallops. The Spring rolls were ok.
There was Water, Champagne & Beer set up for us to drink, the beer was good nice & cold.
We headed below for the reception & eveything was set up nicely. One of the best things about this place is the view of course, great views of the river, a few bridges & the city & on a clear day like it was beautiful.
As for the food during the reception it was served buffet style Nice bread, Great tasting Chicken, Sausage & Meatballs.
Green salad was good & the Calamari was delicious. I wasn’t too crazy about the Pasta it kinda had no taste.
Open bar, drinks were great & strong.
The place itself can probably use a make over to spruce things up but over all the reception turned out lovely.
